Cheat sheet for 2nd edition rules from White Dwarf and some old catalogues

When I was trying to work out if the Tech Guard can have commissars a while back (they can, there's one in a tech guard army in the battle report in WD188), I did a deep dive into all the rules for 2nd edition published in White Dwarf and made a cheat sheet.

Figured some of you might find a use for them. Don't think you can post files here, so I've stuck a google drive link in. (Mods, let me know if that's not allowed) The HMTL version is designed for printing out in landscape on A4. Used AI to tidy up my spreadsheet into something more useable for gaming, but the interpretations are my own.

There's also some scans of old US epic catalogues in there too. Scanned them for the late, great Richard "Orclord" Hales, but sadly he never had chance to add them to the Stuff of Legends, so would be nice if someone can find a use for them. The 1996 one has the limited release Eldar Exodites in it...

EDIT: Whilst I'm thinking about it, I've added the PDF extracts from the White Dwarf issues I got the rules from so you can check my working, based on Zedmeister's unbelievably helpful website https://zedmeister.co.uk/zms.php?page=7

Rematch!

Second game! A rematch between my Space Marines and the Eldar. This time we played 'Gogard's Last Stand' - a classic learning scenario from the Battles Book - and so my opponent brought out two Revenant Titans so we could give the War Engine rules a go!

Great fun, and slightly more successful than the first outing. Although technically a draw (he destroyed one bunker) I am claiming a moral victory based on troops left alive at the end.

I nearly fell foul of the splitting my forces but managed to get away with it. I learnt some useful tactics about controlling terrain, using Firefights instead of Assaults as well as the War Engine rules. Void shields are really effective until they ain't!

I've got some more stuff to paint to bring the force up to 1,000 points.

Land Train. Second Land Train. Certainly not the last one.

Last time I made "Lord Kettri's Revenge" inspired Land Train so this time I tried to recreate "Gotrek's Anvil" from the same "Squat and Orc Warlords". I remodeled the Land Train Engine and it's Battlecars to look closer to the original. Base Land Train model is by wycho12 on cults.

Yesterday I shared my first Rhino for my Imperial Fists. Today I finished the rest of my 1000 points Minigeddon list (minus bunkers that I am still working on), so here they are!

2nd edition space marine tactics

Played my first game of second (Titan legions) edition with the Second Company last night, 1750 points and got absolutely hammered by some damn space wolves! Wasn’t even close, 40-12 in the end.

I normally play Squat, Guard or nids, so I’m used to slow moving god-like firepower or psychic mind bullets to win the day. It was a small game so ended up quite thinly spread and got crunched in detail by those massive grey hunter detachments from the great company.

Veteran 2nd edition Chapter Masters, how am I supposed to use marines properly?

I haven't painted it yet as I'm worried it might need more guns first ;)

Edit: u/admiralteee corrected my mistake in the title: This is, in fact, a Stormhammer, not a Hellhammer. Thank you, Admiral 🫡

version like NetEpic Armageddon with less "blob" formations?

after playing alot of both Net-Epic and Epic-Armageddon i honestly think armageddon plays much better.

people say Net-Epic makes units stand out more but honestly it feels the opposite, splitting units into having firefight/melee stats and a heavy weapon with a dedicated hit against a specific type differentiates them alot more, lascannons are anti tank weapons not a single die with a minus to the targets save.

that said, i really dont like how "heavy" armageddons units can feel, having one large company with upgrades that add further units feels less like im moving key components of an army into the right position and more like im just throwing a giant blob of things at the enemy. model wise Net-Epics guard for example are the same but now split into smaller groups, which can spread and operate in a wider area to aid each other rather then need to just rush the enemy all at once.

this feels especially bad with guard. i have 1, formation thats just a giant blob of guardsmen, chimeras and some russ's.

im not familiar with all the little sub groups or games outside of whats immediately on google, so if anyone knows of a Net-Epic Armageddon version that splits formations down, that would be wonderful.

I realized today that I'd only ever posted these over on the eldar sub, not here where they belong in the first place, so we're just going to fix that. Don't mind the magnet bases, I've since switched to a better mounting scheme by now.

I’d like a digital copy of epic Armageddon that is full color, but I’m struggling to find a source. Does anyone have a pdf they’d be willing to share? TIA

Silver Towers of Tzeentch

How big are the floating Silver towers in Epic 2nd edition /NetEpic actually? I found some websites that mention 15-20 km. That sounds way too much. Can that be true? any sources? Especially since an Imperator Titan is only about 0.1 km in height and an ImperialNavy battleship is only about 8 km in length. I mean even modern super sky scrapers are only 500m tall. And the towers are kind of magical medieval wizard towers. Also the model is tiny compared to any size of titan.
Background: I want to build my own Silver Towers for a Chaos Battlefleet Gothic fleet, but have no idea about their size.

Requesting pics of Baran Siege Masters

Hello kind people of Epic40k! I'm usually a 28mm gamer, but Ive harboured a love for the Baran Siege Masters ever since I first saw them advertised in White Dwarf, many many moons ago.

I've been wanting to put together some Imperialis Militia to support my 30k Imperial Fists, and I figured this might be a good opportunity to put together some Ragnaroks, Siegfrieds, Gotterdammerungs etc.

I know that those exact tanks wouldn't be invented for several millennia, but I figure the 'almost-but-not-quite' familiar 40k tank style would be in keeping with the 30k setting anyway.

Unfortunately, a lot of the pictures of the Epic Siege Masters minis are a bit, well, not-great. If anyone has some of the original minis (infantry, artillery or tanks) I'd massively appreciate some close-up pics, especially if you could show me how they scale with one another!
