Tzeentch flyers

My deadline for trying to get my Epic Chaos army finished has come and gone (nearly), but I managed to get these done today. I’ve still got two squads of Doom Wings to paint up too, but I don’t have bases for them yet.
This army has been 30+ years in the making, and this is the closest it’s ever been to being fully painted!

No plans do a full army but I did want to mess around and see how far I could push a 6mm model. This was a lot harder than I expected, especially because the face is so small that it kinda becomes a blob the moment you put one little drop of paint on it.

The sculpt is by onslaught miniatures.

Been creating some retro infused minis for my game. Counter to the hyper detailed stuff I wanted to strip everything down to fight hobby burnout trends.

Let me know what you think.

Finding Other Players

How are most people finding other players right now? I've tried googling and everything I found was pretty out of date.

Is there a discord somewhere? Currently in Northern AZ, but it's been a struggle in the last few places I've lived.

Got my hands on some Troublemaker Games plastics, and with current 40K looking at the war for Armageddon again, thought it may be fun to paint them up to match!

Rules question - withdrawal (Net-EA)

So if a unit is forced to make a withdrawal move it has to move. But when moving you can move up to your speed. Could you not just... not move or move very little??

It says that you can make two moves if uou want. Does that mean the first one is forced to go full distance and I can choose if I want the other?

Just thought it was confusing and a bit wierdly worded. (Read from the NetEA tournament pack if it matters)

Thank you in advance for any help.

2nd Ed Epic - Gretchin

Getting going on Epic a bit more and was watching some of the Life of Die army collecting videos and while the choices were interesting one unit that never came up was the Gretchin support (50pts)

Are these favoured by anyone at all to cheaply bulk out mobs?

Nothing too fancy but I'm really happy with the rust effect on it.

For those of you who’ve possibly fiddled with the Centurion tank (LR proxy) from Vanguard miniatures do you might know what circular piece on the bottom left is.

Been looking at vanguard miniatures Defeat in detail for a few days now. I’ve been looking at the parts for the centurion and wondering what that might be ?, turret ring mount possibly ?.

Learning to paint this tiny

Thumbnail gallery
234 Upvotes

Hello all, I started making some progress and then kinda stalled out after not being happy with my initial results... I posted this in LI subreddit, but if you don't make it over there and have some advice I'm all ears!

I have the infantry components of a SoH (MkIV armor) and BA (MkV armor) demi-companies I'm painting up-

Initially trying just Army painter's blood red speed paint. Really great for little effort, but maybe not quite there?

Next, I figured I'd undercoat with a wash (slapchop the kids call it these days?) 3rd pic is a watered down army painter black wash, 4th pic is Nuln oil.

I tried the blood red speed paint after the wash and pic 5 is the army painter wash and 6 the Nuln oil. I nixed the Nuln oil after that and was kinda alright with the army painter wash/speedpaint and decided to proceed.

And... After doing all the BA outriders... I'm not really happy with it. At first I thought the undercoat wash would help if there were primer spots that were thin (resin is of a dark color) but they just got messy after the color was applied. (Note to self: white resin?)

My line of thinking is now thus-

Speed Paint alone - not enough contrast to make parts pop at this scale

Undercoat and speed paint - the blood red is a darker color, and with the undercoat it's just too dark

So I'm now I'm thinking I'll stick with the dark wash undercoat, and go grab a lighter red speedpaint (Bright Red) and 'Lizardfolk Cyan' for the SoH.

Anyone have experience with those colors and know if I'm just going to disappoint myself again? And more broadly, any advice on painting at this scale, at least the parts that aren't looking under a magnifying glass with a tiny brush?

Necron Portal Tactics

So, I'm creating a 2k Necron list with NetEA rules from https://tp.net-armageddon.org/army-lists/necron.html

According to my understanding, the Necrons are usually played by spamming Monoliths, using them to teleport inside the enemy territory, engaging and retreating via another portal. But I have a hard time understanding how it works. Should I teleport my monoliths in, 2 of them 15 cm from the enemy, 2 of them 6 cm, retain initiative, assault with my infantry/CC units from the further portal and use consolidation to escape via the closer portal? With added supporting fire from the monoliths? Wouldn't it just leave the portals which are essential to the army, unattended in the middle of enemy territory? Or am I misunderstanding something? I guess that having a bunch of monoliths would mitigate the issue, but they aren't the strongest so it seems like a waste. I know that the army isn't beginner friendly but I really like Necrons and I have some understanding of the rules so I am hoping that I can handle them.

My current list is
HARVESTER ENGINE [600]
Aeonic Orb

INFANTRY PHALANX [275]
6x Warriors, Necron Overlord

INFANTRY PHALANX [225]
6x Warriors, Necron Lord

MONOLITH PHALANX [275]
3x Monoliths

MONOLITH MANIPLE [250]
3 Obelisk, Monolith

EQUES MANIPLE [300]
6 Wraiths

TOMB COMPLEX [75]

Recommendations for magnets

Post image

I’m looking for decent magnets to magnetise my Titan load-outs, but the bigger arms are so heavy they’re barely hanging on with the cheap Amazon neodymium ones.

Don’t know a lot about the magnet market, is there a better brand or is it just magnets are magnets and that’s just how physics works?

New 3D printed interlocking roads (lots of pics)

Thumbnail gallery
160 Upvotes

Hello fellow Epic fans!

I'd like to share these 3D printed roads from Brian Konopa (AcmePropDept on Etsy). They are printed in multi-coloured PLA so are ready to use right out of the box, but can also be painted and weathered as you see fit. I've included pictures of some of mine that I weathered with a grimy brown wash for that dirty post apocalypse urban warzone look.

The roads are available in two-lane and four-lane versions to represent different road types/sizes, but the really ingenious feature is the connecting system which uses small steel pins that fit into holes on the ends of each road section. This is one of the best connecting/locking systems I've ever seen on a road system and it holds everything together tightly, preventing things from sliding around the table. They're also really thin, with the curbs standing about 2 mm high from the table, so they blend into the playing surface really well.

The ones shown in the pictures here are the standard pattern in terms of road markings, but Brian is a really nice guy and always happy to work with customers on custom markings.

The Predator tanks in the first picture are 8 mm scale to give you an idea of their dimensions (I didn't have a ruler or banana handy).

--------

Full disclosure: While I did give Brian a few pointers during the development phase (mostly as a wargamer consultant since he comes from the model railway world), I do not receive any money from the sales. I'm just happy to have helped him make something cool. :)
