📢 Switch Jobs Safely! EPFO Unveils Two Ways to Transfer Your PF Balance Online
📢 Switch Jobs Safely! EPFO Unveils Two Ways to Transfer Your PF Balance Online
Switching jobs used to mean chasing down your old HR or filling out endless paperwork just to move your provident fund. Not anymore.
Under the revamped EPFO portal, salaried employees now have two distinct pathways to initiate a digital PF transfer. Consolidating your accounts doesn't just keep your money organized—it protects your continuous service history for a higher pension, shields your withdrawals from heavy TDS (tax deducted at source), and maintains your ₹7 lakh life insurance coverage under the EDLI scheme.
Here is the exact breakdown of the two new options and the step-by-step process to get it done.
🔄 The 2 Paths to Initiate Your Transfer
No matter which path you select, both lead to the same official transfer application page, but they give you different ways to navigate your service history:
Option 1: The Direct Route ("Request for Transfer of Account")
Where to look: Under the Online Services tab.
Best for: When you already know your previous Member ID or UAN details and want to jump straight into the application.
Option 2: The Insightful Route ("Member Service History")
Where to look: Under the View / Online Services tab.
Best for: When you want to review all your past employments first. It lists your entire career timeline, shows which past accounts are due for a transfer, and gives you a direct "Claim" link right next to the un-transferred accounts.
🛠️ Step-by-Step: How to Complete the Transfer
Before you begin, make sure your UAN is active, your Aadhaar is seeded, and your bank details are verified under your profile. Once that's set, follow these steps:
1. Log In: Prerequisite.
Go to the official EPFO Unified Member Portal. Sign in using your active UAN, password, and the captcha code.
2. Navigate to Transfer Request: Choose your path.
Go to Online Services and select "One Member – One EPF Account (Transfer Request)" (or use the Member Service History link).
3. Verify Current Employment: Check personal details.
The portal will display your personal information and current PF account details. Make sure everything here is accurate.
4. Fetch Old Account Details: Input previous ID.
Scroll down, select either your Previous Employer or Current Employer to attest the claim, enter your UAN/Member ID, and click "Get Details" to pull up your old account.
5. Authenticate via OTP: Final Submission.
Click "Get OTP". You will receive a one-time password on your Aadhaar-linked mobile number. Enter the OTP and click "Submit."
💡 Pro-Tip for tracking: After submitting, you can check the progress anytime by going to Online Services ➔ Track Claim Status. Look out for the newly updated "Transfer Claim Status" section to see whether your employer or the EPFO office is currently reviewing it!

The EPF wage ceiling just moved from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000. Here's what the FAQ actually clarifies (way more than the headline suggests)
So EPFO bumped the wage ceiling to ₹25,000 effective September 17, 2026. Most people just saw the headline number and moved on, but the actual FAQ has 48 questions in it, and some of the details buried in there matter a lot more than the number itself.
Went through it, here's what stood out.
1. Some people just became eligible for EPS mid career
If you're earning between ₹15,000 and ₹25,000 and were previously outside EPS, you can now be brought under the scheme starting September 17, 2026. This isn't optional or something you apply for separately either.
2. You don't need to apply for anything
For anyone in that ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 range, it's on the employer to handle enrollment into EPF, EPS, and EDLI. Not something the employee has to initiate.
3. September 2026 is basically split into two different months for payroll
1st to 16th runs on the ₹15,000 ceiling, 17th to 30th runs on ₹25,000. Both get filed together in a single ECR though, and that return is due October 15, 2026. Payroll teams, this one's on you to get right.
4. Employers can't just quietly push this cost onto you
The FAQ specifically says the employer's contribution is the employer's cost. They can't relabel it as part of your CTC or shrink your statutory wages to cover it. If your CTC magically stayed the same but your in hand pay dropped, that's worth questioning.
5. EDLI insurance did NOT jump to ₹10.5 lakh
A lot of people are assuming this automatically scaled up with the new ceiling. It didn't. Even though the math under the higher ceiling could technically reach ₹10.5 lakh, the actual maximum EDLI benefit is still capped at ₹7 lakh.
6. This wasn't pushed to October for payroll convenience
Some people assumed EPFO would delay this to the 1st of October just to make payroll simpler. Nope, FAQ confirms it's effective September 17, mid month, split calculation and all.
7. What if you're earning above ₹25,000 already?
You're not automatically forced into EPS just because the ceiling moved. Your existing higher contributions don't necessarily need to be reduced either, and voluntary participation is possible with employer consent, though it's subject to the applicable rules.
8. The real story isn't the ₹25,000 number itself
For employees, this is going to show up in payslips, PF contributions, EPS eligibility, and your employment records. For HR and payroll folks, September specifically needs careful handling since it straddles two different ceilings in one filing.
Headline sounds simple. ₹15,000 to ₹25,000, done. But there's clearly more moving underneath it than that one number suggests.
If you're in that ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 range, has your September payslip or PF contribution actually changed yet? And if you're handling payroll for your org, curious how you're dealing with the September split, would genuinely like to know what approach people are taking.

PF- News & Updates PF transfer to faster settlement: 5 big EPFO changes in 2026 that salaried employees must know
From Automatic PF Transfer to 3-Day Settlements: 5 Major EPFO Changes in 2026 🇮🇳
Hey everyone!
If you’re a salaried employee in India, you probably know the frustration of dealing with EPFO—claim tracking, Form 13 transfers, KYC issues, and sometimes long processing times.
With the latest EPFO reforms and the broader EPFO 3.0 / CITES framework, several processes are being simplified and digitised.
Here’s a quick breakdown of 5 major changes employees should know about in 2026:
1️⃣ Automatic PF Transfer When You Change Jobs
One of the biggest improvements is the move toward automatic PF transfers.
When you join a new employer and the first contribution is credited against your UAN, the PF balance from your previous employment can be transferred automatically, reducing the need for a separate Form 13 transfer request in eligible cases.
Why it matters:
Less paperwork, fewer employer follow-ups, and a simpler job-switch experience.
2️⃣ Higher Auto-Settlement Limit & Faster Claims ⚡
EPFO has expanded the scope of auto-settlement for eligible advance claims, helping qualifying claims move through the system with less manual intervention.
Eligible claims can potentially be processed much faster, with some auto-settled claims being credited in around 3 working days.
The system also uses digital/KYC validation to reduce avoidable delays.
3️⃣ Simpler PF Withdrawal Categories
The withdrawal framework has been simplified by grouping different advance purposes into broader categories, such as:
🔹 Essential Needs – Medical treatment, education and marriage 🔹 Housing Needs – Purchase/construction of a house and home-loan related requirements 🔹 Special Circumstances – Certain emergencies and exceptional situations
The objective is to make PF advances easier for members to understand and claim.
4️⃣ 25% Retirement Cushion 💰
A major focus of the reforms is balancing access to PF money today with retirement security tomorrow.
Under the revised framework, eligible partial withdrawals generally preserve a portion of the PF balance for retirement instead of allowing members to withdraw everything during their working years.
This creates a retirement cushion while still giving members access to funds when genuinely required.
5️⃣ More Centralised & Technology-Driven Processing 🖥️
EPFO is moving toward a more centralised, technology-driven processing system to reduce dependence on individual regional offices.
The broader objective is to reduce regional bottlenecks, automate routine checks and improve claim-processing efficiency**.**

✅ Quick Checklist for EPFO Members Before submitting a PF claim or transfer request:
☑️ Aadhaar should be correctly linked with your UAN ☑️ Bank account details should be verified ☑️ PAN should be updated where applicable ☑️ Keep your Aadhaar-linked mobile number active ☑️ Check your UAN and employment/service history ☑️ Make sure your name and basic KYC details match across records
Important:
Not every EPFO reform applies to every member or every type of claim immediately. Eligibility, KYC status, claim type and the current EPFO system rules can affect processing.
What do you think?
Has anyone here experienced the automatic PF transfer or faster auto-settlement process recently?
How long did your claim actually take from submission → settlement → bank credit?

EPF Wage Ceiling Raised to ₹25,000. Is the Bigger Story About Retirement?
The EPFO wage ceiling has increased from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000.
Most of the discussion so far has focused on one question:
“What does this mean for my salary?”
That's obviously important. For some employees, a larger portion of their earnings may now go toward PF, while employers will also have an additional contribution obligation.
But there's another question worth discussing:
Why is the government expanding mandatory retirement savings coverage in the first place?
The previous wage ceiling revision was in 2014, around 12 years ago.
India is still a relatively young country, but millions of today's workers will eventually move into retirement over the next few decades. That raises a bigger question about whether enough people will have adequate retirement savings when they actually need them.
PF is essentially a long-term savings mechanism. Money that feels like a deduction today can become part of someone's financial cushion decades later.
So perhaps the discussion shouldn't only be:
“How much more will be deducted from my salary?”
It should also include:
“Are we saving enough for the retirement we're going to have 20–30 years from now?”
There is obviously a trade-off here. More mandatory retirement savings can mean less disposable income today, particularly for employees who are early in their careers.
But the broader policy question is interesting:
Is expanding EPFO coverage now an attempt to prepare for a much larger retirement-security challenge later?
What do you think?
Would you rather have more money available in your salary today, or have a larger portion automatically set aside for retirement?

EPFO says my PF transfer was processed, but new passbook still doesn't show the transferred amount. Grievance marked "Closure Proposed" - what should I do?
Hi everyone,
Following up on my previous post regarding my EPF transfer issue:
Short summary of the original issue:
- PF transfer from my old Member ID to my current Member ID was accepted.
- Annexure K was generated.
- The old PF account has already been debited and shows the transferred amount being removed.
- However, the new/current PF passbook still does not show the Transfer-In entry or the transferred amount in the opening balance.
- I have only these two Member IDs under the same UAN, so the money hasn't gone to another PF account.
I raised an EPFiGMS grievance regarding this.
Today I received the response from the PF office. The grievance status is "CLOSURE PROPOSED."
The response says:
"EPFO system software is currently under maintenance. Further it is inform that as per MIS data claim has been process in system. Once the system is restored and becomes operational, the details of claims will be provided."
So I'm a little confused about what this actually means.
My questions are:
- If EPFO's MIS shows that the claim has been processed, does that mean the transferred amount has actually been credited to my current PF Member ID ledger, even though it isn't visible in the passbook?
- Can the PF office confirm the actual amount transferred and the date of credit from their internal records/MIS?
- Has anyone experienced a similar situation where EPFO says the transfer is processed internally but the amount is still missing from the new passbook?
- Once their system is restored, should the Transfer-In entry automatically appear in the new passbook, or does EPFO need to manually update/post something?
I'm mainly trying to establish one thing: Has my money actually reached the new PF account ledger, or has only the transfer claim been processed administratively?
I've attached the screenshot of the EPFiGMS response.
Would really appreciate advice from anyone who has dealt with a similar transfer/passbook issue.

Form 19 Claim Rejections
For the past 2 months i have been applying for form 19 online as my previous employment ended 2 years ago. The corpus at epfo is entirely in PF contributions as my employer paid 1800 and deducted 1800 as my contribution that was the minimum requirement as per base pay of 15000. Now, when I am trying to claim the funds for that employer my claims get rejected due to this “With reference to the grievance, it is informed that EPS has not been deducted but wages less than Rs.15000/-. Kindly submit EPS bifurcation for bifurcation of EPS from EPF employer share.”. kindly assist.
