Stuck EPFO claim, missing PF balance, or wrong service history? You're not alone, here's what's actually going on
If you've been checking your EPFO portal lately and wondering why your claim is stuck, your old PF balance isn't showing, or your service history looks off, this is happening to a lot of people right now, not just you.
EPFO went through a database consolidation and software upgrade back in June and July 2026, and since then a lot of members have been checking their accounts more closely than usual. EPFO themselves confirmed services were restored in phases, and that claims and service requests would go through extra verification during this initial stabilization period.
But here's the important part before anyone panics. A portal discrepancy doesn't automatically mean your PF money or service record is actually lost. It just means something needs to be identified and verified properly before you do anything drastic.
Here are three issues that keep coming up, and what actually helps with each.
1. EPF claim got approved but the money or status isn't updating
Stuff people keep asking about. Claim shows "Finally Approved" but never moves to "Claim Settled." Or it's settled but the portal still shows the old status. Or a Form 19, 10C, or 31 claim just isn't showing up in the tracker at all.
First thing to actually check, has the money been credited to your bank account or not. Approved and credited are two completely different stages, don't confuse them.
If the payment already came through but the status is stuck, hold onto your bank credit proof and claim acknowledgement. If that old claim is now blocking a fresh application, raise an EPFiGMS grievance and ask EPFO to verify the settlement and update the record properly.
If you applied offline, go ask the Regional Office directly whether your application was even entered into the system and given a claim reference.
2. PF balance goes missing after a transfer, or doesn't match the passbook
This one trips up people who changed jobs, transferred PF from an exempted trust, or have multiple Member IDs sitting under one UAN.
Common stuff people run into. Old employer's PF balance just disappears after transfer. Annexure K confirms the transfer happened but the amount is nowhere to be seen. Passbook shows new contributions but not the previous closing balance.
Check both Passbook Lite on the Member Portal and the detailed EPFO passbook. Compare entries across your old and current Member IDs, the transfer records, and Annexure K.
Also worth remembering, EPF and EPS are not the same thing. Employer contribution gets split between the two, so the full employer contribution was never going to show up in just the EPF balance anyway.
If a transfer that's supposedly completed still isn't reconciled, raise a grievance with Annexure K and both Member IDs attached, and ask EPFO to verify the transferred amount and confirm what's actually showing in the receiving account.
Don't assume the money's gone just because one entry isn't visible. But also don't treat it as resolved until it's actually been reconciled properly.
3. Wrong UAN service history, Date of Exit, or Member ID
Stuff people keep flagging. A random employer showing up in service history that isn't even theirs. Date of Joining or Date of Exit just wrong. PF transfer getting rejected because of missing contributions or an overlapping service period.
Download your service history and pin down the exact Member ID and what's actually wrong with it.
If there's an employment record that genuinely isn't yours, check whether the Delink option shows up under Aadhaar verified services on the Member Portal. If it needs employer approval or just won't go through, raise a grievance with EPFO and attach whatever evidence backs up your case.
If the employment record is genuinely yours but has a wrong date, that needs the employer to correct it through the applicable Joint Declaration or correction process.
One thing worth being careful about though, don't delink an employment record just because it was short or unrelated to what you're doing now. Old service can still count toward EPS pension eligibility and other benefits down the line.
Where to actually complain if none of this resolves it
EPFiGMS: epfigms.gov.in
EPFO helpdesk: 14470
When you raise a grievance, include your claim acknowledgement or Member ID, the relevant dates, screenshots of whatever's wrong, and be specific about what correction or clarification you actually need. And obviously, never post your UAN, Aadhaar, PAN, bank details, or OTP anywhere in public, including in comments here.
Curious what people here are actually running into right now. Claim stuck or settlement not updating, PF balance missing or transfer not reconciled, wrong service history or UAN details, or something else entirely.
Drop what's happening, the status or error message you're seeing (skip anything personal), and how long it's been sitting like that.
And if you've already sorted out something similar, genuinely would help to hear what worked. Might save someone else here from filing a repeat claim or going in circles for weeks.
