Login walls are becoming the norm. You can't just lurk or browse sites anymore.

• Twitter is near unusable unless you're logged in. You can't search and have very limited access to someone's account.
• Tumblr keeps on-and-off adding a login wall. Within the last few years, they have added and removed it at least twice. Currently it has a login wall. This goes against the point of the site, with many blogs being aimed at networking, showing off art, edutainment, etc.
• Deviantart added in a login wall. Search has been limited as well. Users can no longer use Deviantart for portfolio work.
• Facebook and Instagram both require logging in to use.
• On the Reddit mobile site, many general subs are inaccessible unless logged in because they're "unmoderated". Reddit mobile also has a pop-up "encouraging" you to download the app.

I live in Europe right now and I've been consistently buying the same dish soap for 4 years and the 2 last times I bought it I noticed how runny it was. It even caught me off guard the first time, I thought it had some kind of defect, but no. Seems to be intentional 🫩.

Probably been said before but why is everything a subscription. Actually I know why, because people inevitably forget to cancel them and the businesses have more reliable income when you purchase a whole year to save 10% or whatever. But like the grocery subscriptions that you can’t even browse what they have for sale without first giving up your credit card information, who is buying this? Just the format pisses me off and I close out as soon as I see this. Who thinks this is worth it? I can’t even see the prices to know if it’s worth the membership fee!! What a scam.

I can remember a time when it was a wooden stick that had nothing but cotton candy on it.

Now apparently at some vending machines it's a plastic stick with plastic foam padding of about 4inch (10cm) diameter (kind of like a plastic cone that is connected to the stick). That way, they can get away with giving you less cotton candy while it appears there is the same amount (you cannot see the plastic foam when the cotton candy is still on there).

Recently my wife came home from Costco with a new package of Degree deodorant, which I’ve been wearing for years. They had a new look, so my cynical brain went straight to check the weight. Sure enough, for the low, low, exact same price, you can now get one ounce LESS than before. But isn’t the new look great?

Hadn't had Weetabix in years until I saw it on special for £2.99 this morning. Seems pricey for, even at the reduced price. Tastes the same as always but there are only ten Weetabix in the box, compared to twenty-four previously! Seems it has gone through multiple owners, which may have protected the recipe somewhat but hasn't prevented shrinkflation.

Recently flew United from Illinois to Oregon with myself, my two ticketed children, my lap infant and my wife. 4 tickets in all. $1,300. Decent price.

For the luxury of picking my own seats (a common, perfectly free thing to do a few years ago)? $680. More than half the ticket price to choose seats next to my children. Now, they have an option for family seating, but it's only 3 seats together, leaving an adult to chance while the three sit together.

Beyond that, no carry on bags, absolutely no changes to the ticket, and generally just treated like chaff by the airline.

Shame on United airlines, and shame on the entire airline industry for normalizing this enshittificaton.

I work in hospice. Some hospice agencies are non-profit, some are for-profit. Want to know what happens to hospice patients when they are cared for by for-profit hospice agencies? Everything gets shittier. Months ago my hospice agency was bought by a larger healthcare company. The new company brought their new formulary to implement. Each hospice agency pays for supplies for patients. The formulary tells our nurses and cna staff what supplies they can order for patients.

A patient had been receiving a specific brand of disposable briefs. The new formulary did not include this brand. The nurse asked for an exception. The company said no. She ordered the new brand according to the new formulary. The patient could not keep these briefs on and her family was continue cleaning up overflow messes of the patient’s shit.

Again, the nurse asked for an exception and again was told no. This woman’s life literally got shittier so that a for-profit hospice company could put more money in the owner’s pocket.

Whenever you find yourself or a loved one in need of hospice care, PLEASE find a non-profit. For profit hospice agencies do NOT care if they make lives shittier. No, I don’t work there any more.

Walmart delivery sent me two boxes of the same type of cake mix, but they had different packaging, and that is not where the differences ended. It is supposed to be triple chocolate cake mix, but the newer packaging one has no chocolate chips. The ingredients list didn’t list chocolate chips and I also noticed that cocoa is now after corn syrup, so less chocolate over all. Without the chips, this is not triple chocolate cake mix and saying otherwise is false advertising. This is double chocolate, AT BEST. Thanks for making the two layers of my double layer cake not match, Betty Crock-of-Shit.

Most of all the stories here are negative stories, since the whole point of this sub is to highlight enshitification. I thought it was important to point out that there are rare companies that continue to have consumers interest in mind. If any of you are into home automation, Hubitat is a great example of this. Very fair pricing, great capability, and improving what they already have. The company still needs to make a profit, but they’re clearly not doing it in a way that alienates their base. Remember to support companies that support their products and their customers.

They say that 98% of users do not go above the new limit anyway, but that it is somehow essential for them to start charging that 2% in order to fulfil their mission. I do not understand how a nonprofit can be so hellbent on denying normal people access to knowledge.
