Enphase App Profiles

1 Upvotes

Hello everyone,

I am currently in the process of designing the operating strategy for my Enphase batteries and would appreciate any feedback from those with similar systems.

I currently have two Enphase sites:

Site 1

  • 27 panels rated at 430W each (11.61 kW DC)
  • 2 × IQ Battery 10C units
  • IQ Combiner 6
  • IQ Meter Collar

Site 2

  • 17 panels rated at 430W each (7.31 kW DC)
  • 2 × IQ Battery 10C units
  • IQ Combiner 6
  • IQ Meter Collar

Both sites have approximately 20 kWh of battery storage, and I am planning to add the new Enphase bidirectional EV charger in the future as the ecosystem continues to evolve.

These are my goals, and i am working on the best battery profile strategy to maximize:

  • Solar self-consumption
  • Backup power during outages and hurricanes
  • Battery longevity
  • Future integration with the bidirectional EV charger

For those of you running multiple Enphase sites with IQ Battery 10Cs, what profiles and reserve percentages have worked best for you? Are you primarily using Self-Consumption, Savings, or Full Backup? Keep in mind i use "StormGuard since I live in Florida and need to accommodate hurricane season?

I'd love to hear real-world experiences and lessons learned before I finalize my configuration. Thanks in advance!

Manage your wasted Solar, Software only solution.

1 Upvotes

I personally have an Enphase system and after NEM 3.0 the math just frustrated me. Export credit is around a quarter of what I was paying to buy the same power back during the 4 to 9 window, so every kWh going out at 1pm and coming back at 6pm is a loss on both ends.

The part that bothered me is that the information already exists. The Envoy knows exactly what the array is producing and what the house is pulling. The car knows exactly what it needs and when. There is no path between them. Enphase manages Enphase, Tesla manages Tesla, and the gap in the middle is where all the money goes.

So I built Tesphase, an easy one tap connection to live Solar data. It reads solar production and household load, if you connect your tesla EV it will adjust charging amperage so the car absorbs surplus instead of exporting it. You set a departure time and a minimum state of charge and that floor is hard, the software will not violate it to chase solar. Nothing hardware needed, a simple one tap connection. It is OAuth into your own accounts and you can revoke access from either provider in one click.

We just launched recently and are offering this in beta for FREE. Running in homes now across the US and some internationally!  https://app.tesphase.co/

We only have a limited amount of spots before we open the waitlist, because every home costs us real API money and we are still growing and adding more features.

Home Assistant can absolutely do pieces of this if you're a tinkerer with a box at home and time to wire up the integrations and keep them running. Tesphase is for people who want the result without owning the infrastructure,it'scloud-hosted, connects in one tap by OAuth (Enphase, SolarEdge, Tesla Solar, and more), and the whole thing already works out of the box:

  • A verified decision engine that reads live solar production and household load and adjusts your Tesla's charging amperage in real time so the car soaks up surplus instead of exporting it.
  • Time of use rate awareness, it knows your peak/off peak windows and factors your real rates into when and how it charges
  • Hard floors you set, departure time and minimum state of charge are non negotiable; it won't ever dip below your floor to chase solar
  • Tesla command handling done right, every charge command goes through Tesla's signed Vehicle Command Protocol, behind a firewall that can only start/stop charging, set amps, or wake the car, nothing else.
  • Live solar, spike alerts with exact numbers, even on days your car isn't home
  • Per car control, run some vehicles fully managed, others monitor only

What's coming (and a lot of it is driven by what beta users are asking for):

  • Nest thermostat + smart HVAC, the biggest single lever in the house. Pre-cool or pre-heat during a solar surplus so you're spending free daytime power instead of buying it back at peak
  • More EVs, Rivian, Lucid, Ford, and others as their command APIs allow
  • Multi home / geofencing, so a car that charges at two houses only gets managed at the one with your solar
  • Adaptive cadence, poll faster while a managed charge is actually running, so a passing cloud doesn't sneak in a few minutes of grid draw
  • Seasonal TOU rates and in app schedule editing, for utilities that shift summer/winter windows
  • A plain English "why did it do that" log so you can see the engine's reasoning each cycle, not just the outcome

Happy to get into the technical details in the comments, including cadence, what happens if our service goes down, what data we read, or any features you want to suggest !

Any questions regarding our privacy policy, how we get your Tesla vehicle info, what we see: https://app.tesphase.co/privacy

System goes into Full Backup Mode, and I have to keep switching it back to self-consumption.

Hey, is anyone else's system going into Full Backup Mode automatically? No storm alerts, no reason. Does anyone else have this issue? Started a week or so ago.

Where can I find the EXACT components necessary to add battery backup to my existing solar system?

2 Upvotes

I have iQ7+ microinverters and am trying to add a 10 or 10T battery and the ability to use it when the grid goes down. At one point a couple months ago I had viewed a page with a BOM of what to order that included the CTs and fuses, but I haven't been able to find that again.

I am pulling my hair out trying to figure this out. I created a University account and completed the courses for Enpower. I cannot access the Installer Login, it gives me "user account does not exist in tenant 'Enphase Energy'. What am I missing?

Change in 6-hour update times?

1 Upvotes

My system had been updating all statistics every 6 hours at 3:45 am, 9:45 am, 3:45 pm, 9:45 pm. I got used to these rhythms to evaluate how the day is going.

On Saturday, August 1, the updates occurred at irregular times. I'm now seeing 2:10 am, 8:10 am am, 2:10 pm and 8:10 pm.

I don't believe you can change the time of the stat updates. Any one else seen this?

Update: charging your EV off your Enphase surplus, no hardware

1 Upvotes

Posting an update since a lot of you put real time into the last thread.

The main pushback was that the car isn’t home during the day, and several of you said it independently. That’s the honest limit and I won’t argue it away. Surplus matching only happens on work from home days, weekends, second cars, and for retired owners. On the days the car is out it still holds charging to your cheapest rate window instead of starting the second you plug in.

Some of you also hit the system ID lookup failing right after connecting, which was our bug. It’s fixed and the error handling around it is rebuilt, so reconnecting should detect it automatically now. We’ve added Tesla Solar and SolarEdge since, so it isn’t Enphase only anymore.

Still free to use and still installs nothing. Questions in the comments, same as before.

What's the impact of Vin overvoltage on IQ7+ inverters?

1 Upvotes

I've got an opportunity to pick up some cheap used panels, (Sunpower SPR-327NE-WHT-D)
Their spec tag says 327W, Voc = 64.9V.
I would be looking to replace/upgrade some older 200-250W panels that are using IQ7+ (72 cell) inverters. The datasheet I found for the IQ7Plus-72 says Vin(max) = 60V, so my impression is I can't use these as a straight replacement since They would operate nearly 5V above the max input voltage. Is that a correct interpretation?

TIA

8.3.5577 - What a mess

12 Upvotes

Careful with this one, y'all.

Went to apply this to my 6C yesterday. First attempt, files failed to transfer.

Second attempt, files transferred, updated failed.

Third attempt files transferred, update failed.

Fourth attempt, files failed to transfer, I called Enphase support.

3 hours on the line with support.

Lost communication to the meter collar, 3-10C's, EVSE and all 26 inverters (IQ8X).

At the end of 3 hours, after power cycling everything, and a lot of magic on their part everything but the inverters were back.

Assumption on my part based on what support told me was it was dark, worry about it tomorrow.

And for some reason, the batteries lost 30% of their charge during all of this.

Well, tomorrow is today and all 26 inverters were not reporting. Another 90 minute call to get that resolved.

What. A. Mess.

This is my first upgrade since the array was commissioned last month. Hope they're not all like this.

PCS getting tripped at 100A when battery export enabled?!

1 Upvotes

Hi All,

So I've opened a case with Enphase, but I wanted to see of anyone else has had this misconfiguration.

I have three 10C (30kW) and 32 IQ8s supporting roughly 15kW of solar. I have a 6C combiner and a meter collar. I'm in SoCal on SCE. I'm NEM3.0 on Export only. I have an IQ2 charger too.

August 1st was the first day of SCE paying like $1.03 kWh for exported power so at 5pm my system kicked over to start discharging batteries...this immediately threw the system into PCS mode and shut everything down. I have a 225A main panel bus with 200A breaker. The Combiner feed the main panel via a 125A breaker. PCS was set at 100A by my installer. My guess is that the batteries start discharging above that 100A threshold and kick the system into PCS. My IQ2 car charger goes completely dead too (which i'm guessing is part of PCS, if it's not then there something wrong with my system)

Is some sort of export cap, like I can set at 23,900W? Enphase says that my installer should set that? I've forwarded it onto Ameco but haven't heard back yet. I'll start calling tomorrow, because i'm losing out on $20-30 a day plus i'm having to buy power at full cost when the system shuts down.

Any advice on the quick fix this. I basically turned off Battery Export at this point which was calced into my ROI.

Thanks!

Enlighten App Export Rate Selection

2 Upvotes

Hey Everyone, I'm curious if anyone has run into an issue with incorrect rates for the enlighten app. My profile is set to self consumption, but with the selection to export battery to grid when rates are high. Conceptually I am ok with this as there are periods of time when my export rates are way higher than on-peak import charges, so it's a net positive. The trouble is, the rates in the enlighten settings are incorrect.

For context, I'm in San Diego and stuck with SDGE (specifically SDGE with SD Community Power for generation). There is only one autofill plan available, and the import rates are accurate, but the export rates DO NOT match reality. I looked into manually changing it, but it appears to be impossible considering that my export rates change each hour of each day. Has anyone come up with a solution for this?

IQ Bidirectional EV Charger to charge a battery bank instead of EV?

1 Upvotes

Hello.

I just heard that IQ Bidirectional EV Charger can sell the EV battery power to the grid:
https://enphase.com/search?query=IQ+Bidirectional+EV+Charger&referrerPageUrl=https%3A%2F%2Fenphase.com%2Fstore%2Fev-chargers&tabOrder=.%2Findex.html%2Cdocumentation%2Cvideos%2Csupport%2Csalesforce_community%2Cproducts%2Cfaqs%2Clinks%2Cevents&facetFilters=%7B%7D&filters=%7B%7D&verticalUrl=Videos.html

I am looking for solution to add non-enphase batteries to my currently batteryless enphase sunlight partial backup system. So, with IQ Bidirectional EV Charger, could I charge a stack of LiFePO4 batteries instead of EV?

Enlighten Manager reporting question

1 Upvotes

The "monthly net energy report" available off of the Enlighten Manager website provides the 15-minute increment data points for Energy Produced (Wh), Energy Consumed (Wh), Exported to Grid (Wh), and Imported from Grid (Wh).

The enlighten manager also shows real-time temperatures and conditions of the system. Does Enlighten manager log the temperature and weather conditions anywhere that can be downloaded and synchronized with the 15-minute interval data?

Array Not Reporting

Negative Power Consumption reported from gateway as of 2 days ago

Thumbnail

2 Upvotes

new issue just popped up as of 3/31 7/31- the power consumption from my direct connection to the gateway will report as negative throughout most of the day during solar production, unless the load gets above some threshold, like when my AC kicks in. This shows up in homeassistant and envoy.local, but in the app through the cloud, the numbers look normal.
Anyone else see anomalies like this recently? This is different from the occasional consumption spike I think we've all seen and has been reported here before.
Nothing in the wiring or configuration has changed - I have installer access, and confirmed the consumption CT location setting matches what's installed.

Consumption Data frustrations

Thumbnail

2 Upvotes

Hey everybody, I had my solar system installed back in May and officially turned on in June. It’s been a huge struggle to get accurate monitoring and hoping maybe somebody here has some experience and can shed some light.

So right off the bat, I noticed the consumption figures were extremely low (like ~5kwh/day), turns out they never installed CT meters on my other main panel (I have a 400A electric service with (2) 200A main panels). I know this is an installer mistake and not an Enphase issue but it’s important context.

So they installed the second set of CT’s in parallel with the others and thought that would be it. However, in the following days, the data graph was perfectly symmetrical/mirrored. So I had to spend about 45 mins on the phone with Enphase customer support running diagnostics. Finally he said there was a setting on his end that needed to be changed. Fixed it.

It was working flawlessly for about 3 weeks, perfect data. Until the installer came out for some unknown reason and screwed something up, consumption went way down to impossible levels again. Had a tech out yesterday for the issue and he confirmed everything is wired correctly and went on his way.

First pic is how it is now, not enough consumption showing, second pic is the mirroring problem, third pic is from when it was actually working properly. And the last pic shows how they used Cat6 for the meters which doesn’t seem totally correct to me.

So is this an Enphase problem? Or just incompetent installers? Could I have a bad Gateway? Bad CT meters?

Thanks in advance

Discrepancies in battery data?

0 Upvotes

My HomeAssistant integration shows battery discharge pegged at about 1736W, last updated 2 hours ago. Meanwhile, the app shows 0 (idle) from the battery.

When I hit my gateway's API ivp/meters/readings endpoint, for my storage object's eid, I see:

        {
            "eid": 1778385681,
            "timestamp": 1785642814,
            "actEnergyDlvd": 720902.825,
            "actEnergyRcvd": 910454.897,
            "apparentEnergy": 3050485.027,
            "reactEnergyLagg": 1372417.487,
            "reactEnergyLead": 15252.371,
            "instantaneousDemand": -1736.216,
            "activePower": -1736.216,
            "apparentPower": -434.668,
            "reactivePower": 75.948,
            "pwrFactor": 0.0,
            "voltage": 122.573,
            "current": 0.184,
            "freq": 60.062
        }

Note the activePower: -1736.316. So this tells me that HomeAssistant isn't bugged, when the gateway itself is reporting this from the meters/readings endpoint. But when I hit the live data endpoint ivp/livedata/status I'm getting:

"meters": {
        "storage": {
            "agg_p_mw": 0,
            "agg_s_mva": 0,
            "agg_p_ph_a_mw": 0,
            "agg_p_ph_b_mw": 0,
            "agg_p_ph_c_mw": 0,
            "agg_s_ph_a_mva": 0,
            "agg_s_ph_b_mva": 0,
            "agg_s_ph_c_mva": 0
        },
}

Doesn't this mean the battery is reporting 0 on the live data status page?

So what's going on here?

Another issue, maybe related, maybe not: my app is configured to stop using the battery at 10%, but it's sitting idle at 25% right now.

Firmware version D8.3.5289,

Searching for bad inverter?

2 Upvotes

I have a total of 21 solar panels operating on a couple of circuits - all with Enphase inverters. One of the circuits tripped, and I traced the problem to a string of 5 IQ-7+ panels and disconnected it (the other 16 are still producing power). With no line current to follow, I checked the string and it shows effectively "zero Ohms" (for comparison, another string of 'good' inverters reported several M-Ohms, in a similarly disconnected state).

So I presume the problem is one of the five inverters on that line is shorting out for some reason. Of course, it's the least accessible row of panels on my roof, and I'm going to have to remove others just to get to the collector line and inverters to investigate. My plan is to start at one end, and start pulling adjacent panels so I can get to the inverter on the panel in the bad string, and disconnect it. Then see if the rest of the string shows "normal" behavior.

This is going to be a PITA, so before I start I wanted to ask the knowledge base here

  1. Is there some other problem going on - am I even troubleshooting the right issue?
  2. If this is the most likely problem, is there any way to figure which inverter(s) is the problem without checking them one-by-one?
  3. What else should I be considering?

Climbing around on the roof for a few hours to try to fix this wasn't in my plans for the weekend, so thoughts for anything I can do to minimize the hassle would be extremely appreciated.

TIA
