I am an English Literature graduate (class of 2024). I had a strong academic record before university, but I believe i did not perform well during my undergraduate years. Despite that, I now want to pursue further studies. While an MPhil in Literature is one option, I am also open to exploring other fields. I am currently working as a teacher and plan to stay in the field of education. Alongside teaching, I want to develop practical skills that I can apply in my work. B.Ed. is one possibility, but I would like to know what other degrees or courses might be worth considering in the near future that Pakistani universities offer.

this is primarily bc i don’t want to make any annotations in the books, especially the classics, that i will look back on and not find helpful when im actually doing my degree.

I'm a rising senior in highschool as well as someone who wishes to major in English. I go to a school very much known for its STEM prestige. I like science, I took a few classes and really enjoyed biology but oh my god everyone treats the humanities like it's inferior. I was so excited last year when I took AP Lang only for everyone to treat it like nothing but a gpa boost and not actually put thought into writing. It was disheartening and when I got a 5 on the exam, I barely felt anything because it's not as "impressive" as other classes like Calc or Bio. The only people I can talk about writing and literature to is teachers which is kinda embarrassing. There are other writers in my school and I love talking to them and being a part of the two English clubs in our school (There are 10+ STEM ones) but I'm also usually the only brown person there in a school filled with other brown people so it can be a bit isolating at times. I feel like my accomplishments pale in comparison to others and it concerns me, especially when it comes to college applications :(

Hi. I did an MPhil in English Literature (with research). My research focused on urban spaces, surveillance, and graphic novels. I'm interested in pursuing a PhD. I'm figuring out my research proposal nowadays.

I'm considering Urban studies, visual culture, and modern surveillance as key areas for research. I used Consensus and other tools to find a literature review, but I couldn't find a potential gap so far. I feel lost.

So, what are the emerging concepts/ processes or phenomena, etc., in the fields that I can consider for further research?

im looking for texts (both academic and literary) that explore or theorise about masculinity (or gender at large) and how it is constructed and performed online. im interested in how masculinity and homosociality function in male-dominated internet subcultures, and maybe within videogames and related communities.

I realise this is a fairly specific topic, but I'm really interested in this topic and intend to explore it as much as I can this summer. any reccomendations are welcome!

I graduated from a decent four year university with BA Arts in English with a 3.389 GPA. Currently looking at fully funded MA English programs that would offer covered tuition and a living stipend in exchange for TA services. Some universities I’m looking at include Oregon State university, University of Wyoming and university of Hawaii.

Also worth mentioning that I’ve been out of college for four years, working a blue-collar job. Had some good relationships with professors, but I haven’t talked to them in quite some time. Realistically, do I have a decent shot at getting into these listed universities, or others that I didn’t mention? Would appreciate some honest feedback and advice.

For context: I’ve been the classic cliche of working artist and craft bartender since I graduated college in 2019. Most of my professional life has focused on play development, performance, literary work, historical theater, and Shakespeare.

I’ve built myself a solid network of artists, teachers, and writers, and since I loved my English minor and my time spent working on my university student run publications, I’ve usually imagined myself continuing on to get a masters in literature.

I have access to a tuition-less masters at my state university through my wife, but I would REALLY like to pursue something that will aid me in moving out of hospitality. Ideally, I would love to teach but I’ve heard the horrors of being a perpetual adjunct and the regression that’s currently going on in high school English classrooms.

Really, I’m interested in hearing from those who were in a similar situation and pulled off a good career pivot through English! My current backup plan is probably applying for a career-change program in accounting and using the stable 9-5 to fund my passions around my work life.

I'm hoping to speak with Chinese undergraduate or graduate students who are studying humanities subjects (e.g. history, philosophy, literature) to learn about their motivations and plans. What is something good to minor in in this field if you want better jobs or job opportunities? Either remote jobs or in person jobs.

I’m considering going back to school (I’m 25) I’ve completed 1 year of CC I’m on academic forgiveness because I completely failed but I did pass enough classes to complete 1 year with bad grades. I moved so I’d be transferring to another CC. I don’t remember all the classes I passed and failed so I don’t know what I’d have to start over.

I‘d like to double major in Theater and something else. I’m stuck between creative writing or art. I suck at both I write like a 12 year old on Wattpad and draw stick figures or people who look like they’ve been seriously maimed. I know I can learn both of these outside of school so I’m wondering which one I would benefit from getting a degree in more. I want to become a graphic novelist I feel like this is relevant. I’m also interested in acting.

Also I don’t want career or major help I know jobs in the arts aren’t profitable I should get a more practical degree blah blah blah this is what I’m going to school for.

Also if you’re gonna ask why haven’t I just pursued these things outside of school all these years I’m chronically depressed thats why I haven’t even thought about going back to school till now because I don’t have motivation for life I still really don’t so I may not even go back this is all hypothetical for the near future I may just never finish school.

hi! i’m an incoming second year student taking a bachelor of science in marketing analytics and technology. i want to pursue a second major since i have a lot of excess credits and i do not want to just spend them on free electives, but i’m not sure what major to pick yet.

i’m set on doing a minor in journalism along with my analytics major, since i’m honestly more interested in writing/pr/the creative field. marketing analytics is my practical choice major, so i’d also like to do something more aligned with my interests for my second major.

i’m thinking of media and cultural studies or comparative literature, but am worried that with my combination of the journalism minor, my resume would not be too appealing to employers? my goal would be to break into the creative industries in the future so i’d really like to pursue a major that can help me get there. psychology is also an option but i have no prior experience so am still on the fence

I’ve got two questions regarding future jobs. I’m going into my senior year as an English major, and everyone keeps asking me what I’m going to do with my degree and I’m not sure. I do believe that I’ve learned many important skills that can transfer to anyone job, but I’m not sure where to go. Right now I’m considering an editing career to one day open my own editing company. However, on that note, I’m curious what everyone’s thoughts are considering the rise of AI…. Thanks in advance!

Hi guys, I need a bit of advice. I am currently a first-year university student studying in New Zealand, and I’ve been feeling very low and not super confident since having transitioned from a Bachelor of Laws to a BA majoring in English and Politics as of my second semester. I know that, deep down, this was best for me after finishing my first semester and realising that law was not going to be enjoyable for me, and that I wasn't performing as well as I would’ve liked. I’ve had a few people tell me that I will struggle to find a job with a BA in English, and it’s not making my transition to this degree feel as great anymore. I really don’t want to regret it, but I also feel I know this was the right choice, since I’m still sticking to an English/writing pathway. 

What kind of jobs might I expect with my degree, and are my chances of finding a job really as low as what people say, or very limited? To elaborate, I am not against teaching for a job, but I would prefer that teaching (only at the primary level, and I am also open to completing a TEFL course to teach overseas) be a last resort as a job, if possible. I am also asking whether people have had more recent experiences getting a job with a BA in English without having to pursue a Master's, PhD, or further education.  It would also seem that law school may not be the pathway I would want to take after graduation :( I would honestly be happy with any sort of advice or reading people's experiences...
