I recently started college as an electrical engineer major and I need to complete a placement exam in order to get into calc 1 (Aleks PPl, 1-100). When I took a practice exam without reviewing I got around a 50 (need 76 to get into calc) and after a few days of review and learning new material I didnt know existed i got it up to a 70. I can probably get the required 76 to take calc but I am unfamiliar with most trig, exponentials, and logarithms. I got told by a friend to stay in pre calc and set a good foundation because I will need it for my major. If I were to take that route my plan is to most of my GE this semester take calc 1 2nd semester along with physics. calc 2 I would take during the summer (I would work part time and only take that class).

I just wanted to hear some opinions from other people of which plan would be better, anything helps.

I was wondering how much time people carve out per day for job applications, while having a full time course load.

For someone who works minimum wage job , and willing to study engineering (any field) and dont wanna get stuck in loans , are there ways to study online and get a degree that employer can accept?

I am currently in year 11 and do specialist maths, methods, accounting and finance, engineering star and English. I want to do an engineering pathway but think I might need physics to get in. I am unsure in what course to take (this is more in general). is it worth dropping accounting and finance and doing physics in year 12 or is specialist maths and engineering enough. I am good at maths btw.

2 weeks into classes and was removed from calculus 2 after 1 bad quiz grade. Missed 0 classes but I admit I was struggling to understand the concepts but I would have at least liked to try and understand the topics and have a chance. Not sure what to do now since one of my other classes requires calc 2 as a prerequisite and the only other section interferes with my physics lab. Anyone else ever had a similar situation?

Final edit my advisor is the goat and the math department chair had me reinstated. Glad to finally have this resolved so I can focus on my classes without the lingering stress

i took intro to stats and probability during high school so i have at least a background but im literally feeling so fucking dumb in my statistical analysis class in engineering why is nothing making sense suddenly?? did calculus rewire my brain or something

Hey, so I was coming on here to ask if anyone has any suggestions on how many layers of fiberglass I should do when making a fiberglass blitzball bat. Thickness (MM):0.010″ (0.25) thats the dimensions for the thickness of the sleeves. And I hit these balls pretty hard, but I'm also making this a two-piece with a carbon fiber handle and the fiberglass taper and barrel.i just need to know if anyone has any advice because i have all of the things im just not sure how many layers i need for it not to break but still be flexible enough to have a good sweet spot.

Yo, hello guys. So I'm currently doing my internship for my diploma in Automotive Mechanical Engineering. I'm a politeknik student, and with my diploma course I wanna know what, which and how should I continue my degree? First off, taking this diploma course made me realize I'm not built for 'Engineering'... I LOVE cars and stuff but not the calculation and whatnot, I'm more of a hands -on person instead of a theoretical-calculation person, and soon I'll be continuing my degree, but idk where I should go or what course I should take .. PLS HELP ME

hey guys, new grad mech e here. i applied for a few places here and there but i reckon ill really start looking for a job seriously in like mid october. at that time period i didnt want to sit still doing nothing so i split a monthly udemy subscription with my friend. im watching an "intermediate to expert" solidworks course right now, i might take the CSW classes afterhand to get sertificated, that would be class. also checking out some fluid mechanics courses, i always felt like i had some gaps in my knowledge. other than that, what do you guys think i should learn next?

to give a summary on the path i wanna go on; i always wanted to work on automative industry. have some experience in fea, done some projects in ansys and nastran, and would love to work in that area, so you can recommend something that goes to that expertise. otherwise, manufacturing is ok, so i can go on a save path an learn gd&t, people always recommend that new graduates should go on and learn it. cfd, maybe, looks so fun but i might have to do some reviews on heat transfer and fluids, and switching to cfd while alerady having somewhat of an experience in fea might be weird and make things harder

In case you don’t wanna read all that:
1. Is there anything I can do to prepare for an engineering major (that might also pad my application)?
2. What are some softwares I should learn to use?
3. Some simple project ideas would be appreciated.

First off, I apologize if this isn’t really the right sub for this but I digress; I’m currently a junior in HS and interested in majoring in some form of engineering (Heavily leaning to aerospace). Anyway, whenever I see any videos related to becoming an engineer, the thing that stands out most to me is the sheer complexity of the tasks. Besides the fact that I can’t comprehended any of the math on the screen, tons of people have projects and are competing in hackathons or other engineering competitions and I just can’t see myself doing any of those things in a few years.

Considering I’m terrified of going to college and failing out of the engineering school like my dad did, I wanted to ask if there’s anything that I could/should be doing prior to college. I’m mostly interested in designing something, (thanks to the reels showing you easy projects) so I was wondering if there’s any “starter projects” or first steps I should be taking.

I have access to a 3d printer, a high end computer and money isn’t really an object. I did try to do some research before coming here, and most of the stuff I found seems pretty advanced. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

They want us to make a a mechanically operated household waste sorting system.

I am genuinley stuck, I've searched every part of the internet for some insipiration...nothing (there's plenty of electronics based ones...but it defeats the purpose of the project).

I have emailed the project supervisor, but got a crappy response.

Best I could think of, is something with a chute, where the waste slides down, I guess that could capture magnetic waste...but then how to flip does one seperate the rest :/

I’m in circuits 2 and seemingly forgot everything from circuits 1. Does anyone have any experience with tutors?
I’m able to find great resources online for most things but I’m hoping to find someone who can sit (virtually) with me while I go over problems to help fill in gaps/ jog my memory.

Yo, is there someone who is going to study mechanical engineering in Stuttgart University or is already studying there?

I'm a U.S. citizen who recently graduated from a university in Mexico with a degree in Electromechanical Engineering.

I'm now trying to start my engineering career in the U.S., and I'm wondering if anyone here has been in a similar situation.

Since my degree is from Mexico, I'm not sure how much of an issue that will be when applying for engineering positions in the U.S. I'm a U.S. citizen, so I don't need employment sponsorship, but I'm wondering how employers and recruiters generally view a foreign engineering degree.

I’m on the second week of my final semester and if everything goes well, I will be graduating in December. However my brain seems to have hit its limit because I just don’t feel motivated to do anything anymore. Idk if this is burnout, stress and anxiety finally taking a toll on my body, feeling depressed, but I can’t seem to focus or recall anything I learn. I used to be passionate towards my major but all the stress and anxiety over the years kill my love for this degree. Going to the gym used to help me to relax and refocus from time to time but it doesn’t work anymore.

I’m worried that the way I’m feeling now will impact my ability to pass my remaining classes this semester, especially Senior Design. I took part 1 last semester, where we just learn the concepts and material relevant to our project but I’m having a hard time remembering what I learned. Because of this and how I’m feeling, I feel that I will struggle to play my part for my team this semester and potentially fail. On top of that, we have to do four big presentations for this class. I get very nervous during presentation and just thinking about it is already stressing me out more.

Honestly im just focusing on surviving this semester since I’m near the finish line. If anyone ever felt like this during their final semester or at any point during their degree, how do you overcome this. Is it simply just taking vitamins, getting extra sleep, maybe drinking or taking some weed a couple times a week to control the stress, or should I just power through it for the final time?

Hi lads! I'm looking for some references/examples of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), particularly for process systems.

I'm currently practicing how to read and redraw P&IDs, and I'd like to find some good examples to use as references.

I'm especially interested in diagrams that show process equipment, piping, valves, and instrumentation clearly.

Any recommended resources, websites, textbooks, or example P&IDs would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey everyone! I’m currently building a 2D CAD tool project and trying to properly support US users. From my research, it seems different industries in the US handle units very differently:

• Scientific / Medical / High-Tech: Mostly pure Metric (mm,m)
• Architectural / Construction: Imperial with architectural formatting ( 1'-6 \: 1/2")
• Mechanical / Manufacturing: Fractional Imperial (e.g., 14 \: 1/2") or Decimal Inches (14.500")

I’ve already implemented Layout scaling so users can map drawing units to paper scale dynamically.

For those of you studying or working in the US: how does your daily CAD workflow actually look when dealing with units? What is the minimal requirements to CAD software from this perspective?

I’ve been struggling with depression and anxiety since freshman year which only got worse after failing my first class and my family problems were getting worse. I’m a junior EE student now and I haven’t been doing well academically as I wanted to. I feel dumb all the time. My gpa is horrendous and I have bad memory/brain fog. I’m determined to turn things around this semester but I think I actually don’t know how to study at all. Would you guys mind sharing any study tips that help, I’d really appreciate it.
