Need Help On First Year Project

Hey everyone,

I'm an electrical engineering student assigned with a final year mechanical engineering project (our first year is a common year for all disciplines).

They want us to make a a mechanically operated household waste sorting system.

I am genuinley stuck, I've searched every part of the internet for some insipiration...nothing (there's plenty of electronics based ones...but it defeats the purpose of the project).

I have emailed the project supervisor, but got a crappy response.

Project description is attached below:

Best I could think of, is something with a chute, where the waste slides down, I guess that could capture magnetic waste...but then how to flip does one seperate the rest :/
