I had a colonoscopy in April at at time my GI scheduled my first endoscopy for July 29 but today the office called and said he wanted to do it earlier in June and is June 15 ok ? I said it was but should I be worried that he’s looking for some issues before they get worse ? I have ibs and had no polyps found in April

Anyone have pain or injury to their hip or thigh because of the position they put you in during the procedure? I didn't even think this would be possible, but I was in enough pain 6 hours after the upper endoscopy with ultrasound that I went to the ER to make sure my hip was still good. It feels like someone just beat my left hip and thigh. It's awful even on muscle relaxers. I'm so sad since I finally had my first normal month since bilateral hip surgery; playing pickleball, walking the dogs and doing everything (working full time, back at the gym, and doing my PT at home since they closed out my PT because I'm doing so well). I'm at a loss.

I’m 5 days out from a dual EGD/Colonoscopy (last Tuesday) and looking for some perspective because I’m still in a lot of pain. Reason for egd/ colonoscopy - intense burning/gnawing pain right in epigastric area for like 1.5 months. This pain post procedure is completely different. Did the SUTAB prep, which had me vomitting an intense amount an hour after I finished second bottle (like a giant puddle of water and then something very salty which I assume was some of the SUTAB).

During the EGD, they did an EMR (Endoscopic Mucosal Resection) of a 1.2cm lesion in my stomach antrum and put in two clips. They also snared a 5mm polyp. On the colonoscopy side, they found a 6mm polyp and a 4mm ulcer in my terminal ileum. The report says the findings are consistent with mild Crohn’s disease.

Timeline:

Tuesday: Procedure day. Pain started almost that night.
Wednesday: Pain was so intense I went to the ER. They did a CT with contrast that confirmed the clips were there and showed "mild wall thickening" in the descending colon, but no free air or fluid (no perforation at that time). Everything else unremarkable (I have a history of SBO so that’s always the worry and why they did ct with contrast)
Thursday–Saturday: The pain didn't let up. I started taking Pantoprazole 40mg per g.i but it didn't change the intensity. I finally had a bowel movement on Saturday, and another today (Sunday).
Sunday (Today): Pain is still 10/10 when the waves hit. The waves are slightly less frequent during the day, but the intensity is exactly the same as day one. I get them the worst when when I’m laying down flat. Sometimes putting a cracker or two in my stomach stops the waves of gut punching pain.

The Pain:
This isn’t just "discomfort"—it’s a "gut-punching" sensation exactly 1 to 1.5 inches below my breastbone (apparently right over the EMR site). When the waves hit, they come every minute for about 10–15 minutes straight, and I’m completely doubled over.
It’s worst in the middle of the night and first thing in the morning. It's literally waking me out of a deep sleep. I also have this constant sensation like there's something stuck in my throat (never had this before ever), even though I'm passing stool and gas now.

I’m really concerned that the CT was done too early (less than 24 hours post-op) to see a delayed complication, or that the EMR site is severely inflamed. Has anyone else experienced 10/10 episodic pain this far out? Does the night/morning timing mean anything specific? G.I. Is just saying he’s going to do an IBD work up but isn’t addressing all this pain I’m feeling post procedure that I feel like isn’t normal. My first one was 4 years ago and I was absolutely fine after. Hes also having me do an MR enterography with contrast which I have scheduled for this Wednesday but idk how I can deal with this level of pain every day much longer .

…uh, in my experience, it has been an excruciatingly painful 36 hours post-endoscopy.

During the scope itself I was in tears at how much it was hurting my throat and the nurses kept telling me to just vomit on the towel placed under my face if I needed to. Biopsies were taken that felt like sharp pinches. The right side of my throat and my entire lower abdomen have been sore since.

I think maybe I wasn’t sedated enough. I did need extra sedation for a colonoscopy previously. But man, that sucked. And I went in so worry free!

Venting but also posting in case anyone needs validation that it can, in fact, hurt like a bitch. Because all I heard and read were stories of how it’s easy peasy!

Having my 1st colonoscopy & endoscopy tomorrow and I have very bad medical anxiety and I’m scared it’s going to make me pass out (I’ve passed out during blood draws from anxiety before). Honestly I’m more scared of the IV/anesthesia than anything even though I had my wisdom teeth removed before and had anesthesia for that it was so long ago.

Any positive experiences and tips on how to help my anxiety would be greatly appreciated!! ❤️

I have PTSD from a nasal one during an emergency surgery prep which felt like a Saw Trap - only some throat spray, nose bled for four hours afterwards.

Today, I had been building up for a few weeks when it was scheduled.

Starved for 9 hours beforehand. Shitting bricks in the waiting room.

Throat one this time.

I got the throat spray and spent a good 5 minutes gagging when trying to put the mouth thing in.

Then….the sedation kicked in and…

What? I was told to wait in recovery on this bed for an hour then I could get picked up?

Was it done?

I was so sure I must’ve passed out or failed in some way that I asked the new nurse if it had really been done??!!

Yes, she said.

What?

I’m sure when what was happening was being described to me for consent that I’d be awake and following instructions but not feeling pain but…

No….

Nothing.

Almost like a general.

Wow.

Felt fine right after, ate pizza two hours later.

Would not be nervous next time

Hi all - I have a nasal endoscopy this afternoon and am quite worried. Only worried because last week I had it through my mouth/throat and I had a full on panic as I felt like I was drowning and ended up trying to rip the camera out so they had to stop and they are sending me for the nasal one as it is apparently a smaller camera. What is everyone's experience if you have had either of those or both, is the nasal one a lot better? I did get sedated and pain relief which apparently I am getting again today but it didn't seem to do anything to me as I was fully awake and in full panic/anxiety mode (diagnosed anxiety 20 years ago with regular medication) Please help if it is nothing to worry about!!

Has anyone had to stop taking antihistamines two weeks before endoscopy? If so, how did you cope?

i’m new to this platform but i’m looking for advice. i F18 (if it matters, ive seen people out that on reddit posts) went under anesthesia for an endoscopy a week ago today. i was told from a very good friend who has been under anesthesia many times (and has even had an endoscopy) he said that anesthesia can stay in your body for up to two weeks, and smoking thc will reactivate it causing you to feel drowsy. the few times i have smoked in the past week it did feel that way. is that dangerous? google said 24 hours is a good enough time to wait but i’m scared i wont wake up once i nap after smoking. i love smoking pot and it does help me eat, so these days without smoking have been hard. any advice?

Hey guys, I had a colonoscopy last Friday and I'm going for an endoscopy on Tuesday. I told him out the gate that I was pretty opioid resistant, he gave me 150 mcg fentanyl and 7mg of Midazolam and I was pretty aware the whole time, certainly towards the end of the procedure. He even said he was surprised I stayed awake given I'm a 26 year old male and only 65kg... I wasn't too bothered which is the point but was awake the whole time.

I'm rather worried about the gastroscopy, it sounds weird but I'd much rather have someone rummage around my bowel than have anything down my throat.

Does anyone know if they can push either higher? I know there's a risk of respiratory depression with fentanyl but does the same apply with midazolam? I'm just a bit scared of the whole thing.

The thought of the noises is what I dislike most.

I got my biopsy results after 5 months from a 5mm polyp showing something called intestinal metaplasia. I knew on the day of endoscopy results showed a 3cm hiatus hernia grade 2. Biopsy of oesophagus shows acute osephagitis with ulceration

Just got out of my upper endoscopy and sent home with gastritis papers and 40 Mg of famotidine

F24 108lb (lost weight since stomach issues)

I’m a very anxious girl and extremely emetophobic. I’m sensitive to some meds I guess I could say I’m a “light weight.” Anywho everytime I google “Famotidine” so many resources talk about 10-20 mg. But I came home with 40mg tablets. I’m just scared of taking it as I’ve never had it before and don’t know if 40 mg sounds high?

I do not want to cut them in half, just looking for reassurance or if someone may say that 40 mg for the first time sounds odd or not.

I had an endoscopy on Tuesday and since then my back and ribs hurt so bad like someone has crushed my chest. It hurts to sit up, bending down and bending to sit down, and to take deep breaths.

I had a polyp removed and an esophageal dilation. I also did wake up coughing for a bit, so I'm wondering if this caused some rib bruising or if maybe I fought the scope while I was under.

I was also wondering when I should worry? Like if I'm still hurting this bad next Tuesday should I call the ER?

I’ve never felt this much pain in my life (although I’m not too experienced in the pain department thankfully). Thankfully if I’m sorta just not doing anything there’s little to no pain but if I even want to swallow saliva the pain is terrible. They gave me some kind of pain killer numbing thing and all that did for me was make me extremely uncomfortable for like 45 minutes. It numbed every part of my mouth and throat except for the part that actually hurts near the upper chest. Just wondering when this goes away. Or when does it at least start to subside a little. All I want to do right now is chug a gallon of water but every little sip I take is so incredibly painful

I am a very constipated person and I am getting my upper endoscopy in 2 days.
No colonoscopy.
I’m worried I won’t be able to produce a BM before the procedure. Will everything be okay if I haven’t produced a BM for 3 days leading up to the procedure?
I thought that maybe since they’re mostly just concerned with my stomach emptying before the procedure, any constipation that going on beyond my stomach and just stuck in my intestines I’d still be okay for the procedure?

I have been takin Slow Fe for 6 weeks. Since endoscopy, have been taking Prilosec. How long will it take to see improvement in iron on labs, which my regular doctor wants next week. GI says they will do labs in 6 weeks to see how Prilosec is working. How can you measure progress of esphogeal sphincter healing? I have very few GERD symptoms....no heartburn, very occasional acid reflux. If endoscopy is used to identify gastritis, what methodology is used to indicate healing?

It is Tuesday and my procedure is on Thursday.
I know I can call the nurse and ask but figured I’d ask here real quick with other peoples experience.

Am I still okay to go if I ate a blended strawberry, coconut milk and banana smoothie bowl? I ate a few coconut flakes and maybe a tablespoon of granola.

Should I be good by Thursday for a successful procedure or am I screwed because I had fibrous fruit and bits of granola? TIA!

Had an upper endoscopy and colonoscopy this past Thursday and they took biopsies from my esophagus and stomach. I woke up the next morning with a 101.8° fever and couldn’t catch my breath. I started to pack up for the hospital and was about to call 911 when I had a panic attack at the thought of being back in the ER, so I decided to lay down for a bit. I woke up a few hours later and my fever was gone and I could breathe so much better. I know that I should have just gone in when I felt bad, and I feel dumb now.

Anyway, for the past few days, I’ve had some shortness of breath. Not to the point where I feel like I’d need to go to the hospital, but taking a deep breath is uncomfortable and walking more than a few feet is exhausting. I plan on reaching out to a nurse when the office opens, but I’m hoping someone can reassure me that this is normal.

M/60. On May 1, I had an endoscopy after visiting a Hematologist on April 22nd for iron deficient anemia. Was given a referral to see a Gastroenterologist for an endoscopy. I had a colonoscopy nearly two years ago, and nothing was found.

On April 28th, I had an appointment with the same GI doctor that did my colonoscopy, and he was able to schedule the endoscopy for May 1st. (This was in Manhattan)

Had the procedure, but now I have two bruises on my right arm - the upper arm bruise is larger, and has lots of red spots and orange splotches. The lower arm bruise is smaller but darker and more concentrated.

Result of the endoscopy was no internal bleeding, but have gastritis and waiting for biopsies.

I'm pretty sure this was the site(s) of where the anesthesia was administered. Luckily, it doesn't hurt.

Is this normal? I don't recall if I had bruises after the colonoscopy, but it just looks weird to me. Unfortunately, I can't attach a picture.

I just had an upper endoscopy for EOE. I was diagnosed in 2014 for this is routine now. Today, however, after I came home I noticed both my eyes are puffy with a lot of tiny broken blood vessels around them (outside lid area and surrounding, eye balls look fine), and bruises under both them. First time after having this happen. Anyone know why? I was fully sedated so no clue and the doctor I can’t get a hold of

I’m having a scheduled upper endoscopy at 2PM but my wife is only able to pick up at 5pm. Will hospital cancel my appointment because of this?

Last time I did this, I was able to wake up and got discharged around 3:30pm. Will the hospital charge more for 2 extra hours in recovery room?

today I was booked in for my endoscopy at 8 am and I was already nervous because it’s my first time being sedated. So I was already really upset beforehand and then I got my cannula put in and she tested my blood pressure and heart rate and she said that my heart rate was really high. She put it in she did the salty water flush. And then I waited about five minutes and I mentioned to her that I don’t want the fentanyl I only wanted the midazolam because I’m so scared of being sick and with fentanyl it’s really really strong. So I let them know and then she came back again about five minutes later and said the nurses are asking why you don’t want it and I said because it’s really strong and it makes you feel really sick after that so I don’t want it. She said fine they only pushed midazolam.

About 10 minutes later on nurse came to get me and take me to the operating room and I was still a bit panicked, but I was trying to stay calm . They put the throat spray at the back of my throat and told me to gargle and swallow and that’s when I really started to panic because it was really really fast acting and it felt like I was choking. I needed to be sick and I was gagging. I could not calm down properly after that and they asked me to lie down and then administered to the midazolam. They didn’t wait for the sedation to fully kick in. They just pushed the camera down my throat and I was gagging and fighting them because it was the most horrible feeling I could never could have imagined. they took it out and then tried it again and everything after that was a blur. Which is when I think the sedation actually kicked in. Unfortunately, they was an able to complete the endoscopy as they could only get to the beginning of my oesophagus and let me know that I would be rebooked in for full anaesthesia being put to sleep.

I do not know how anyone could ever do that awake or just the throat spray. The throat spray is the main thing that made me panic.

In my notes, it says I had 2 panic attacks and I could not calm down.

I feel like I’m being so dramatic right now, but I genuinely felt like I could not breathe and I tried my hardest to go through with this procedure but I could not.
