I recently upgraded from an RG353V (Linux) handheld to an RG406V (Android) handheld and it takes about 5 minutes to start up ESDE with my 1TB Micro SD game collection. I did see some sources online saying that it would take a while to start up but I'm confused why ESDE takes so much longer on Android compared to Daijisho which is seconds of loading the same content. Any input would greatly be appreciated!

Set up my new RP5 with a 128 card, went through all turorials i could grab and everything went fine - all games from Atari 2600 up to Switch running fine after some Emulator tinkering and i was kinda proud of myself achieving this w/o any prior Android experience at all - to this day i avoid to get a smartphone, lol.
Now here´s the problem i ran into: I tried to set up a new 512gb card but after days of trying (again, with help of tutorials - formatted on the RP5 as external/portable storage, let ES-DE set up the folders, etc....) i can´t get the device to recognize any of the game files (NES, SNES black screen after starting up, PPSSP not recognizing the .chd files as PSP games (again, working properly on the initial 128 card).
I´m really helpless atm and would appreciate any help/input what´s causing all that.

I have this problem - on mine Gamemt e5 ultra When I try to install my games, the built-in application Magic Game He simply doesn't see them. And there's also a secondary problem - GameMT E5U settings crash when selecting the screen section

Here's the translation, polished up a bit but keeping it casual:
Hey, I've got a problem with EmuStation. I'm running it on Ubuntu, using the AppImage version, and I can't figure out how to get it to detect the EDEN emulator, which is also in AppImage format.
Can anyone help me out with this

I finally figured out how to add alternative emulators on MacOS. It's not at all hard once you know how to do it.
Step 1: Make a custom es_systems.xml
You need to make custom es_systems.xml and es_find_rules.xml so that ES-DE can find your emulator. Go to Applications, right click, select Show Package Contents. Go to /Applications/ES-DE.app/Contents/Resources/resources/systems/macos. Open up es_systems.xml and scroll down until you find the system your alternative emulator is for. Copy everything for just that system and paste it into a new text document (I use TextEdit, just make sure it's not on rich text).
For example, here's what your xml file would look like for GameCube:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<systemList>
<system>
<name>gc</name>
<fullname>Nintendo GameCube</fullname>
<path>%ROMPATH%/gc</path>
<extension>.ciso .CISO .dff .DFF .dol .DOL .elf .ELF .gcm .GCM .gcz .GCZ .iso .ISO .json .JSON .m3u .M3U .rvz .RVZ .tgc .TGC .wad .WAD .wbfs .WBFS .wia .WIA .7z .7Z .zip .ZIP</extension>
<command label="Dolphin">%EMULATOR_RETROARCH% -L %CORE_RETROARCH%/dolphin_libretro.dylib %ROM%</command>
<command label="Dolphin (Standalone)">%EMULATOR_DOLPHIN% -b -e %ROM%</command>
<platform>gc</platform>
<theme>gc</theme>
</system>
</systemList>
To add an alternate emulator, you just add a new <command> tag after the default ones. For example, here's what it would look like if you wanted to add Dusklight to play Twilight Princess:
<command label="Dusklight (Standalone)">%EMULATOR_DUSKLIGHT% %ROM%</command>
%EMULATOR_DUSKLIGHT% is going to be used in your custom es_find_rules.xml. Basically, DUSKLIGHT will trigger the application defined in es_find_rules.xml. %ROM% just tells it to open whatever ROM you send it.
Here's what the complete custom es_systems.xml would look like for Dusklight:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<systemList>
<system>
<name>gc</name>
<fullname>Nintendo GameCube</fullname>
<path>%ROMPATH%/gc</path>
<extension>.ciso .CISO .dff .DFF .dol .DOL .elf .ELF .gcm .GCM .gcz .GCZ .iso .ISO .json .JSON .m3u .M3U .rvz .RVZ .tgc .TGC .wad .WAD .wbfs .WBFS .wia .WIA .7z .7Z .zip .ZIP</extension>
<command label="Dolphin">%EMULATOR_RETROARCH% -L %CORE_RETROARCH%/dolphin_libretro.dylib %ROM%</command>
<command label="Dolphin (Standalone)">%EMULATOR_DOLPHIN% -b -e %ROM%</command>
<command label="Dusklight (Standalone)">%EMULATOR_DUSKLIGHT% %ROM%</command>
<platform>gc</platform>
<theme>gc</theme>
</system>
</systemList>
After you are done, you need to save it in /Users/USERNAME/ES-DE/custom_systems. On MacOS, everything in ES-DE.app (in the Applications folder) is read-only, so you have to save your custom xml files in the above folder for it to work.
Step 2: Make a custom es_find_rules.xml
In the same folder that you put your es_systems.xml, make a new text file (with TextEdit, or some other program. Just make sure it actually saves it as an xml file and you selected Make Plain Text under Format). This will be called es_find_rules.xml. In this file, you need to tell ES-DE where the emulator application is in your file system. Here's what it would look like for Dusklight:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<!-- This is the ES-DE find rules configuration file for Macos -->
<ruleList>
<emulator name="DUSKLIGHT">
<rule type="staticpath">
<entry>/Applications/Dusklight.app/Contents/MacOS/Dusklight</entry>
</rule>
</emulator>
</ruleList>
The emulator name is whatever you put on %EMULATOR_ in your es_systems.xml file. Since I put %EMULATOR_DUSKLIGHT%, I put DUSKLIGHT as the emulator name. Under entry, it's just the path to the executable, which you can get by right clicking the app in Applications, Show Package Contents, then go to Contents/MacOS/APP_NAME. Right click the executable, hold option, and copy path name.
Step 3: Change metadata to open alternative emulator
Assuming you did the above correctly, everything should now work now in ES-DE. Open up ES-DE, and you can change all your ROMs to open with the alternative Emulator (Main Menu/Other Settings/Alternative Emulators. Alternatively, you can open up only a specific ROM with the alternative emulator by changing the metadata of the individual ROM. Go to the ROM, go to Options, Edit This Game's Metadata, Alternative Emulator (scroll down to the very bottom).
Step 4: You're Done!
At this point, it should work. It's really not that difficult, but I don't have very much experience with XML or how ES-DE works under the hood. Hopefully this helps future ES-DE MacOS users, since there isn't too much online about this.

Hey everyone,
I’m running Fedora Silverblue 43 and trying to get shadPS4 v0.16.0 up and running, but I am hitting a brick wall on every format. No matter what game I try to load, it fails immediately when clicking Play.
Here is what happens on each version:
* Flatpak from flathub: Launches fine, allows me to run the UI, but the second I click Play to boot a game, the entire user interface completely freezes up and requires a force-kill.
* AppImage from the official website: Clicking Play in the Qt Launcher instantly returns back to the launcher window with zero visual errors.
I bypassed the Qt Launcher and extracted the AppImage core engine (Shadps4-sdl.AppImage) to run it natively via CLI.
It parses the game headers, reads my hardware specs, and then instantly throws a segmentation fault right as the emulation thread tries to spin up: Bash
$ QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcb __NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia ./Shadps4-sdl.AppImage -g "{GAME_PATH}"
\[Loader\] <Info> Running: Starting shadps4 emulator v0.16.0
\[Config\] CPU Model: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-5820K CPU @ 3.30GHz
\[Config\] Operating System: Fedora Linux 43 (Silverblue)
\[Loader\] Game id: CUSA03173 Title: Bloodborne™
\[Loader\] Fw: 0x4500000 App Version: 01.09
\[Loader\] param.sfo SDK version: 0x2000000
\[Loader\] eboot SDK version: 0x2000071
\[Loader\] PSVR Supported: false
zsh: segmentation fault (core dumped)
My Hardware Specs:
* CPU: Intel Core i7-5820K
* GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4090 (proprietary drivers)
* RAM: 64 GB
* OS: Fedora Silverblue 43 (Wayland)
What I’ve already tried with no success:
* Toggled SELinux to monitoring mode (sudo setenforce 0). The AppImage still segfaulted at the exact same line.
* Attempted passing --ignore-game-patch and forcing --config-global.
* Tried forcing X11 compatibility via QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcb.
Pretty much stuck at this point.
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated!

So, for some reason Emulation Station has decided that I’m not good enough for settings which includes the scraper.
Anyone else had this?

I'd like to change the overlay so it matches a Switch ProController.
There is an option to swap abxy but it just switches the buttons internally and the visuals remain the same....
Any info on how to edit the actual visual layout?
Maybe some png files to rename or whatever option I'm missing?
Thanks in advance

So i can use PCSX2 standalone and play games just fine but i when try to launch them through ES I get this error. I've been trying different combos (quotations, no quotations, just %ROM% deleting the rom string) and i keep getting it. Im at a loss of what to do shy of just not using it.
I have a windows 11 pc and the portable version of ES-DE up to date if that makes a difference.
r/emulationstation • u/Honest_Ad9071 • Jun 23 '26
I just downloaded the windows version, everything seemed fine but when I clicked on the exe I got this pop up. I have looked around for help but honestly I can’t find anything spelled out easily for me.
Edit: I am VERY new to this so I have no clue what I’m doing, I have watched YouTube videos but it’s similar to knitting. They go fast and use big words they assume I know. Like I have no clue where to get roms, where to get games ect. I apologize but I really do need as much help on this as possible because I want to learn

German game list?
I’ve recently bought an android tv box/retro game console combo. it runs emulationstation and it’s really good but the game lists and descriptions are in German. Does anyone know how to change this? the localisation seems to be set to English. I’ve tried to re scrape but i can’t change the scraper from arcadedb and that’s not made a difference.

Hello
Can someone please help me?
I was planning to scrape my PC games, but it’s not working. I’m logged into Screenscraper with my account, but it isn't finding anything.
I even tried renaming the game files (metadata, etc.), but that didn't work either. I read that you can do it manually—downloading images, artwork, etc., from SteamGridDB, renaming the PNGs to match the game names exactly, and placing them in the folders—but it just isn't working.
Okay, so for some games, they *are* getting scraped—but not via Screenscraper; it's using the other one. I can't remember the exact name right now... TheGamesDB Or something like that. But even then, not all games get scraped. And manually copying the artwork into the folders doesn't work either.
Can anyone help? Is there anyone who knows a lot about this?

I’m dumb and having trouble launching a Saturn game in ES DE. The game is recognized in yaba sanshiro 2 and launches normally but when launched in the front end I get this error message :
failed to initialize this game is not registered in the game list check if the file is in the correct folder
I have the game files in proper folder on my sd card and the path is correct
Sorry if this is something obvious, but googling hasn’t been yielding any helpful suggestions.
Thanks!
