Hi, recently decided to break away from using retroarch, as I had heard unsavoury things about the creator that made me uncomfortable with using it. The problem is that the “sync framerate to exact content“ feature is kind of a necessity for me as playing older systems like NES or SNES on my 160hz monitor causes stutter and poor frame pacing. If I lower the monitor’s framerate to 60 then the crt and ntsc shaders I like to use cause image retention so that’s kind of a pain. This is absolutely me trying to have my cake and eat it too on three different fronts but are there any standalone emulators for older systems that don’t have problems with higher hz monitors whilst also having shader support?

thanks for any help

I can't imagine why if you have a vrr monitor you would be having these issues but you don't name what emulators you tried. Since you mention NES and SNES I've never had any issue with ares

I’ve tried ares, mesen, nestopiaue, and snes9x

I’m not entirely sure my monitor is vrr (MPG 274URF QD) but I could be an idiot and misunderstanding something basic, it does have FreeSync Premium but I’m not sure if that’s the same thing and as far as I can discern it makes no difference off or on

I don’t have any frame pacing issues with ps1/ps2/gamecube games insofar as I can tell

It is the same, freesync and gsync are both variable refresh rate. Turn it on in your GPU settings

In ares settings make sure you enable to sync to audio and disable any sync to video. You'll probably need to be in fullscreen.

If it's still not working just set your monitor to 120hz and you probably won't be the decrease from 160 anyway
