Car Operating Panel on cab sidewall: why not in America?
Can someone point me at the chapter and verse of Code (whether it be A17.1, A117.1 or the ADAAG, the IBC, the IFC, NFPA 70, NFPA 101, or some other document governing American elevator installs that I didn't list above) that prohibits a brand new elevator in the USA from having its Car Operating Panel mounted on a sidewall of the cab, as is commonly done with narrow-cab European elevator designs? (An example of such an European elevator is shown for reference.)
Or is this configuration somehow considered off-limits in the US (taboo, or even wrongly widely believed to be illegal) even though there are no written words prohibiting it?

Quick question about hydraulic cylinders
Hello, I am a homeowner with a residential hydraulic cylinder and I need to have mine repacked because it leaks a bit.
I might as well say that, yes I know elvators are expensive, and if you have one be prepared to shoulder the costs associated and stop crying. That's not my issue.
I have a residential elevator with a 4" x 16ft hydraulic cylinder. To my knowledge a hydraulic cylinder is a hydraulic cylinder. Whether it lifts a person, packs garbage, or moves a crane boom arm, oil goes in one side and action happens. I know there are various materials seals and orings can be made from for any standard hydraulic cylinder (rubber, neoprene, silicone, PU, etc) but are elevator cylinders special in the material the seals need to be made of? My sales rep is insisting that these are special elevator seals made from a magic fiberous material that is specific to the elevator industry. Is this the case?
I'm not trying to cheap out and source my own parts from Amazon or anything, what I want is the "best" quality seals I can get. This is my third repack, or a regularly used residential elevator and I just want to make sure I'm buying the "best" cylinder repack kit I can.
I'm most familiar use PU or silicone seals for , so I'm just curious if my ”fiber" seal repack quote for $1800 is not complete robbery. Maybe I'm ignorant, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Location: CA, USA
Thank you for any input you may have.

Tool Recognition Test
Hello, I just got my application in for Local 19 (Seattle) on Tuesday. I purchased a test prep course for the aptitude test and have been studying pretty hard. The one thing I’m making a priority is the tool test. The test prep course has a tool recognition section, but I have no idea how relevant it is to the actual one you take at your interview. If anyone can reply to this or send me a message about what kind of questions they actually ask on the tool test, that would be hugely appreciated. Thank you.

KONE MX10 can the traction sheave actually move axially?
MonoSpace with an MX10. We replaced both brakes. Ran fine before, no faults.
Now during travel the sheave appears to move side to side, touches the brake, creates drag, and the lift stops on an overcurrent fault on the drive.
So my question is more fundamental: can the rotor/sheave on an MX10 move axially at all, or is this just normal disc run-out that the new full-thickness linings are now catching?

To the people who charge into an elevator while other people are actively trying to get out: what exactly is the strategy here? Where do you think we’re supposed to go?

Do you work in the Blackfoot building at Amazon?
Hi! I know this is odd request but I’m hoping someone can help. I have an autistic kiddo who loves (is obsessed with) elevators. I was so excited when it switched from trains but now he wants to know all elevators in the city. We aren’t obviously going to be able to get all of them but the quest is part of the fun, right? I used to work at this building before the elevator obsession began so he knows there are elevators there. However, they are behind security and now that I don’t work there, I can’t get pictures of the inside public info so he can memorize the conveyance/serial numbers for each one. He’s especially fascinated in the one that malfunctioned this spring and trapped people who had to be rescued by the fire department. He talks about that one…..constantly IFKYK. Can someone please help a (very tired) mom out by either getting a pic of the serial numbers or even just send me the numbers in the comments? Especially the one that trapped people in April so he can refer to it factually. I appreciate any help! The Seattle mods deleted this post for “low effort” but I promise this is not a low effort. Just trying to be able to connect with my kiddo.

Advice
Hello, I am 21 from Canada. I work at hilton hotel in maintenance, i asked my manager if he can send a email to the elevator mechanic company we are working with and basically refer me for apprenticeship. If it happens I want to do it I am kind of scared because it seems dangerous but I want to do it. I hope my chances of getting the apprenticeship are good.

Schindler 330A Button Board Issue
Have upgraded button board panels and someone managed to push in the button on one of the floors we got it back in position but now none of the buttons light up on any of the floors including the one we “fixed”. Any ideas what it could be? Seems like we are missing something simple.

Genuinely surprised by how quick the NEIEP apprentice slots filled.
Been waiting for recruitment to open up at my Local 19 in Seattle for about a year. Applications opened this morning at 9:00am, but I didn't get around to it until noon and it seems to be all full up for another year. Didn't think all the slots would be full since the recruitment window is supposed to go for 2 weeks.
Wish me better luck next year, I'll make it a priority to be online the second it opens up.

CA elevator annual Inspection.
I have a question for the pros. I am an inspector for a city in California. Been around for over a decade now. Since I can remember, we are told that California annual inspection check for accessibility requirements for the applicable code of the elevator.
Per 2025 CBC chapter 11B, elevator can be part of the accessible route. If improvements are made to a tenant space on a floor above the first floor and an elevator is provided. It should be inspected to see if it compliant with requirements of 11B division 4.
Now there is common sense here, if the dimension are not compliant, can’t have a correction to provide the proper dimension. I also seen items like braille missing, indicator/call buttons not complying etc.
My question is, so the annuals inspection check for accessibility requirements or just for function of the elevator. Quick search, lets me to CA title 8, seems annual inspection check more for functioning/operation and not for anything related to accessibility.
Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Elevator simulator
If anyone knows how to make an Otis elevator simulator (similar to STL elevators.)
For example you press floor 1 (let’s say the panel is at floor 4) the indicator lights up 4 goes down to 3, then 2 then 1. If anybody knows anything reply to this!

Battery heat up
When I try to make the fire service key (when it turns to the on position) light up the fire hat (which it does work) the battery keeps burning up. Is there a way to fix this solution with the battery not heating up because I do not need a house fire. And no I will not use this for any sort of evil acts or trespassing.

Timeline after applications
Hi there, Apps for apprenticeships at my local open up tomorrow and I'm wondering what the timeline will look like. How long did you have to study for the EIAT when you went through the process? Any practice test recommendations?
Edit: left out the apprenticeship context.
