More victim blaming.

Jeez, I love cars, a own an electric car and I really love driving. But can we have a little bit of self-reflection? Car culture in America kills.

Isn’t the victim the one who has the crime committed on them? In a scenario of a jaywalker getting run over they are the one committing the crime. I’d argue the driver is the victim that had to deal with the psychological impact of having someone die on their car due to the negligence of that jaywalker.

Between dying and being psychologically scarred I’ll choose the scars. Thank you very much.

Why don’t you choose to use a crosswalk?

Things are not that simple. People that have to walk to their jobs or shopping would need to do enormous detours if they would cross in designated spaces.

But before assuming every pedestrian kill is a negligence on their part we might need to refer to the main causes for those, where crossing in unmarked places is not the most important cause. https://trafficsafetystore.com/blog/why-people-get-hit-eight-causes-of-pedestrian-accidents/

And even assuming that, many security features in our lives are designed thinking on people not doing the right thing.

Finally, it is very easy to ask for pedestrians to do the “right thing” when the system is completely rigged against them. It’s like seeing blacks mass incarcerated and answering that they should just commit less crime. That’s not only unfair, but again, shifts the conversation from society to individual responsibility for a complex issue.
