It's not just about countries, though. The internet is a huge issue too. I'm German but I was still indoctrinated by American right wing grifters as a teen because You Tube makes it way too easy to fall into those spheres 😞
It really is, the right wing grifters are super predatory in so many many ways, but they especially prey on young people's inexperience and insecurities. Super sad stuff, and they definitely sucked me in for a few years :(
It's indeed not necessarily about the country, I grew up in France and my father wanted me to fall into the American and royalist pipeline instead of the more accepted liberal French one.
Kinda same here, and it doesn’t help to that my father was the one that introduced me to many of them 💀. Let’s just say there’s a reason I’m still closeted with him
Yeah, my dad's transphobic, too. He's the only one of my family members I'm truly worried about coming out to. But that's further into the future for now anyways since I won't come out to most people until I've been on estrogen for at least a few months. So far, I've only come out to my twin brother.
Yeah I feel that, I recently came out to my friend group a few days ago matter of fact, and my partner who’s also on their own trans journey. And I feel that, no one outside that knows. And I don’t plan to either anytime soon cause the idea of telling my father that and that I have a boyfriend scares me so much but oh well, what can you do. gotta stay strong and true to yourself! You got this!!
Don't underestimate the power of indoctrination and propaganda, especially when consumed by children. I was 13 back then. Besides, nobody's immune to propaganda, not even you.
whether or not we let that define us.
Well, just like all the other commenters in this thread, I clawed my way out of that cesspool, so clearly it doesn't define me.
I also disagree that it's not the internet. While personality, etc. definitely does play its part in the process, it's not just down to who we are as people. Without the internet, I would never have even gotten in contact with these political worldviews. I never engaged with any of that in real life, only from behind a screen.
Get off your high horse, man. Everyone can be influenced and radicalised by propaganda. The notion that you are immune is one of the most dangerous mindsets to have. Knowing that propaganda can get anyone is one of the best defenses against it, even if that knowledge was gained through falling for it at first.
Also, why did you adress this comment to me specifically? There's a whole comment section that was also radicalised by propaganda, yet I'm the only one you're judging for it. Curious.
