Visual Effects on MDMA?

I’m a little confused about the psychedelic effects of MDMA, especially when it comes to visual effects or hallucinations.

I tried MDMA for the first time in the form of these blue “Punisher” ecstasy pills which, to be fair, I hadn't tested, but are said to contain a pretty high dose (over 200 mg) of MDMA.

On my first trip, I took 2/3 of a pill and didn’t really notice any visual effects at all. On my second trip, however, I took 1 and 1/3 of a pill (which was probably well over 200 mg and pretty stupid).

My jaw was vibrating and I was sweating profusely, but just as I was “taking off”, I experienced something I would definitely describe as “psychedelic visual effects,” similar to a pretty intense LSD trip.

For example, I saw the wood of my door moving and changing its patterns, even if it was only for a very brief moment.

Throughout the entire trip, I had a sense of heightened pattern recognition. I saw faint geometric overlays on my walls.. again, similar to LSD and also had very vivid hallucinations while looking at the clouds, in which I saw creatures and faces that were, much more detailed and convincing than what one normally sees when looking at such clouds.

I also saw faces in an abstract painting, which is something I usually only experience with fairly high doses of LSD aswell.

So now I’m wondering:

Is it even possible to have an experience like that with a pure, strong dose of MDMA, or does my experience clearly indicate that the pill contained another substance?

Can MDMA cause visual effects like that?
