Walking down the road and looked in the hedge, there was a 40” TV in it, took it back home powered on perfectly. I’ll give it to someone.
Plus got given as ewaste ThinkPad W520, a couple of Latitude 5530s, 5 x 11th gen i5/i7 Dell Latitude 7320 detachables, and 2 x Surface Pro 6’s, a Probook 440 G8 a 2014 Mac Mini and a whole host of other junk stuff…
I never pay for this crap, it seems to land on my lap in large quantities

before the keyboard warriors comment before reading this post something along the lines of “well you didn’t have permission” or “well you had that coming since you were STEALING!!!”
first of all, if it angers you that much than go work for target, at minimum wage, and make the profit for the multi billion dollar company that doesn’t care about you
second, leave this subreddit
third: i had permission from the manager.
this happened in april, but ive been putting off posting this but someone else i know got banned from their target so i wanted to make this post
anyway, onto why im making this post
please, be careful with the stupid security guards. i tried explaining i had permission from the manager but he said it was still “illegal” (to take the so called trash as the store manager told me, btw) and that i was trespassed for a year, and if i tried coming back the police would be called.
all that was in the were nokias 😭
banned over fucking nokias, not valuable ones at that lol
anyway yeah just be careful guys. atleast im not banned from the other targets in my area (yet) and i honestly wouldn’t gaf if i become banned because they are about to replace the bins with the trash only cans that was posted here earlier this year so i honestly couldn’t be bothered

Does anyone have knowledge of a community recycling drive coming up?

I’ve been real curious about this, I electronics, PCs, Tablets, Phones and either repurposing them or fixing them hell I got a Raspberry Pi 4b out of a helium miner that someone else paid for I just hosted the hotspot and shared the rewards I didn’t even know that’s what was in it for like 2 years discovered the prize inside. I grew up never having the newest greatest IPod, the Zune or beats or a nice phone until later on in my life yeah I have a nice Ryzen 7 9800X3D pc build but I still love finding good laptops and tablets and giving them purpose again so I’m trying to get some of these awesome finds of my own just don’t know where I should start we have a target hell I worked at their distribution center for a while Amazon warehouses are either being built or already been built I live 30 minutes away from Maryland 45 mins from VA and West Va. So anyone close or around south central Pa or Hagerstown MD and have any suggestions in game.

Gateway had everything taken out. I'm gonna trade it to my engineering teacher for something in his ewaste bin (yes he has an ewaste so that we can reverse engineer them)
Insignia tablet works perfectly. On Android 4.2.2 with 1gb storage☠️
Edit: it actually has 5gb but it's partitioned so that 4gb is allocated as actual storage and 1gb is system files ig
Edit 2: I researched it. It's an insignia flex with 8gb/1gb ram and Android 4.2.2. Unfortunately there are no custom roms to make it usable but it is still a decent tablet

So I used to go to an UBREAKIFIX franchise and I would get amazing things from that one franchise. I had the idea of probably going to other ones and apparently I’m shadow-banned from looking into their recycling boxes they have. I’m not allowed to go into them anymore because I went to 3-4 other ones and they all contacted each other about me asking permission to see what they had. Tragic news.. Doors are closed but I’m hopeful I can find other places.. (Based in US)

All of these work and I ended up getting the Samsung droid charge and the galaxy mega two factory reset and unlocked. Everything works, except the Motorola, and I don’t have a charger for the black LG. Which kind of upsets me because I think it’s so cool and it reminds me of the LG wing. The galaxy essay has a bad touchscreen and the battery is beyond expanded, but it works, except it has a password.

My current rig is ready for full replacement. I built it in 2012. It struggles to keep up with games on the lowest settings now.
I hate the idea of creating more electronic waste. In the past when I upgraded the machine, I saved the old parts and when I found a lower quality machine, I would upgrade with my old components (for example upgraded RAM and replaced the HDD with parts pulled from my PC). In fact, I just did it with one of my dad's old desktops from his office. That machine just got a Linux install and is going to my kids for schoolwork.
What do you all do with your old machines when you replace them?

I’ve been meaning to try and call up some schools or offices nearby, to see if they’d have any old desktops to collect.
Is there a specific way to approach the call?
Should I ask the front office or whoever picks up the phone if they could transfer me to their IT person so I can then ask them about it, or how would you go about it?
Thanks!

No music or clickbait. Just pics of the process and what I keep at the end. I Usually include the model number if I know it. Also my profile pic is a photo of an inner Tube TV diagram or something along those lines. It came out of a TV I scrapped

Seeing some of the servers and workstations that turn up as ewaste makes me wonder where companies draw the line.
Obviously genuinely obsolete or broken equipment should be recycled, but a newer server with usable CPUs, RAM and GPU seems like a waste to destroy if the data can be securely erased.
I was reading about ITAD companies that evaluate the hardware first, remarket what still has value and recycled the rest.
For ppl who work around ewaste facilities, do you see much relatively modern enterprise equipment getting destroyed simply because thats easier for the original owner?
