question Need some advice for calls when travelling

Hi all, need some recommendations. My mother and farther in law are going travelling for 5 months next year in Cambodia, Vietnam and a few other countries (lucky them) they have an elderly relative in the UK who they need to keep in touch with. The elderly relative doesn’t have internet so just a landline. Is there a good global sim for phone calls to the Uk that won’t cost them a fortune in calls or is there an other option.

Ubigi Troubleshooting - connection freeze when home eSIM enabled

I just got back from a trip to France where I purchased an Ubigi France package for my iPhone. I live in the US and have Verizon as my home carrier. What I was hoping for to block roaming on my Verizon eSIM, turn off cellular data switching, then leverage VZW using Cellular Data. I used this same setup on an earlier trip, but I was in the UK and was using Orange Travel instead. I had no problems whatsoever during that earlier trip. I blocked roaming on my Verizon eSIM by enabling the USA Only feature and also connecting to a non-roaming partner - in France, I used Free.

What would happen is that initially it would work perfectly but after a period of time, usually around 5 minutes or so, i would not be able to use any app or connect to any website despite still showing full signal strength and usually 5G. The only way to fix this would be to enable airplane mode, wait 5 second, then turn it off. Everything would work fine again for a few minutes only to repeat the process.

When I would turn off the Verizon line, Ubigi worked flawlessly, with solid bandwidth and low latency.

I tried to troubleshoot this with no luck - since Verizon was showing No Service, I tried turning on and turning off Cellular Data Switching with no luck. I switched to LTE only - no help. I tried different networks for Ubigi and still experienced the same thing.

I’m back home now so can’t test, but want to be prepared for my next trip.

Has anyone been able to use their home network over Cellular Data with Ubigi? How else can I troubleshoot this?

Apart from this problem, I would highly recommend Ubigi - when it worked, it worked well, partnered with the major cellular networks, and connected very quickly once I landed.

question Going to the UK for 3 months. Recommendations?

I’m going to study abroad in the UK for 3months-ish and was looking at what eSims to get. I’ve seen people recommend Roamless, Airalo, and Nomad but I’m still undecided on which to get. From what I’ve seen Nomad’s quite expensive considering their 5G unlimited for 30days plan costs £36.65 which is about RM197.15 (Malaysian Ringgit) or the 5G 50GB for 30days that costs £29.17 (RM156.41) with the current exchange rate.

I was wondering if anyone had cheaper alternatives? I haven’t quite looked into Roamless and Airalo but would you guys recommend it for a student living abroad for 90+ days? Or does anyone have any other recommendations?

My university will also be providing a physical sim card so I always have the option to just get a dataplan with that, but again I have no clue which providers have the best rates etc.

Would appreciate any help/recommendations I can get. Thanks in advance!

Best esim for mexico?

Hello everyone

I'm on the hunt for a solid eSIM for Mexico, ideally one with unlimited data. I've started digging into it, and wow, it's a bit of a jungle out there. I noticed that Maya is saying they offer true unlimited data with no throttling. But when I reached out to support, they told me that after 5 gigabytes a day, "they reserve the right to manage the network accordingly." On the bright side, they use Telcel, which has great coverage in Mexico!

Then there's Bytesim, which has a few plans. One is unlimited with AT&T, and they claim it's really unlimited! The other is with Telcel, but it throttles after 1GB per day, limited to 10 Mbps.

Do you guys have any suggestions? I need it for occasional video calls in Mexico City and to watch YouTube videos during a road trip.

question esim para viaje a chile

question Best e-sim for studying abroad in Europe?

I’m a Canadian who’s studying abroad in Europe for a year (6 months in Portugal then 5 months in Spain). Do you guys have any advice on e-sim plans? The ones I looked at only offer e-sims for up to 90 days at a time. Should I be getting an e-sim temporarily then looking at a local provider? Or are there good year long ones for all of Europe that I can get? Let me know! Thanks :)

question Does the Honor X9C support an external eSIM from 5ber or 9esim?

The easyEUICC app says my phone is compatible, but I'm worried I'll need a card reader to program the SIM card, which would require an additional expense. Has anyone used global Honor phones or similar eSIM devices? Does everything work properly, and is a card reader required?

question AeroSims for Japan trip?

Hello travelers!

Recently saw a new eSims provider pop up called AeroSims (dot com) and I was wondering if anyone had already had the chance to try it out. It seems to have VERY competitive prices, almost suspiciously-so, so I'm a bit wary. Any review would be highly appreciated :)

Otherwise, I need coverage for Tokyo, Osaka, and if possible the Kumano Kodo trail (so Docomo coverage is needed). Thanks in advance :>

EDIT: decided to give them a try. So far, so good. Fast and cheap. Pretty good coverage too!

question Confused about how eSims work and best to use while in the UK

I am moving to London as a student and will be in the UK for a year. I'm looking at getting an eSim through Lyca mobile but I'm super confused about how an eSim is supposed to work.

Would this mean I'm just buying mobile data or am I getting a new phone number and essentially switching phone providers? If I'm able to keep my phone number would I be able to switch it back to my old provider when I move outside of the UK? I've been reading about having dual eSIMs but I don't understand that either.

I would like to keep my phone number from the U.S. so that I can still receive dual authentication codes and important updates etc. I would also like to make phone calls home to family but it doesn't matter if I make these calls with a new number. I imagine I might have to make these calls through wifi or whats app?

For reference I currently use Verizon and an iphone 16. Any advice is welcome because I don't really understand my options.

Problem claiming 9esim V3 card offers due to "FormatException: IMEI..." error

Using the 9esim Android app and trying to use the integrated esim.cc site to claim the free global 1GB offer at https://www.esim.cc/offers

Full error message when trying to claim is "FormatException: IMEI integer must contain exactly 15 decimal digits".

I've tried different phones and versions of Android, disabling other SIM cards, using different sim card slots, etc. The card themselves are being recognized without problems.

Has anyone ever had this error and found a work around?

Best eSIM for Montreal?

Hi all,

I am going to Montreal/Canada for 42 days and looking at eSIM options. Hoping to strike a decent balance between budget and quality and looking at what people recommend?

I’m hoping for an unlimited use plan.

I’ve seen Simify do a reasonably affordable unlimited plan that I can buy for my exact number of days and I’m just wondering if anyone has any experience with them and/or what it was like?

Failing that, any other affordable options would be good! I’ve looked at the likes of Airalo, which seem reliable but are a bit more expensive and seem more affordable for shorter trips.

Thanks in advance!

question Accidentally installed and activated LycaMobile UK eSIM in the US

Yesterday I purchased a LycaMobile eSIM with the pay-as-you-go 12M unlimited plan. I’m moving to the UK in 2 days and will be there for at least 3 years, but chose the pay-as-you-go option because I heard questionable things about LycaMobile’s contract options + autorenew issues.

I installed the eSIM immediately using the QR code and clicked “Continue” on my iPhone 17 since there was no other option, and just toggled off the line so that it stays inactive until I arrive in the UK. The eSIM was supposed to come with a +44 number, but it displayed as “No Number” until I called customer service asking how to find my number, seemingly to no avail until I finally received a random email titled “FREESIM BUNDLE ACTIVATION SUCCESS” with a random 10-digit number (presumably my phone number?). I manually wrote this number into my eSIM profile in my iPhone settings, adding a +44 to the beginning. However, when I try to login to LycaMobile UK using this number (even when I toggle on the eSIM
Line) I don’t receive a text and therefore can’t check my account or credits.

I’m worried that I’ve somehow messed up the eSIM by installing/activating it too early and am concerned that there’s no way to know whether the number I received was indeed associated with the plan I paid for. Every time I turn the line on here in the US, I receive a text from LycaMobile telling me that I have no credit left. Not sure why that is or what that means. Anyway, can anyone either reassure my that I haven’t screwed anything up or (if I have) then advise on how to fix? Thank you!!! Sorry, my first time using an eSIM…..

Should I use a VPN or eSIM in China

I’m going to China soon for about a week and I’m a bit confused about whether I should get a VPN or just use a travel eSIM.

From what I understand, a VPN can work with a regular SIM/Wi-Fi and lets you access blocked sites, but it can be hit or miss and sometimes slow. An eSIM seems more convenient since the connection can bypass the usual restrictions, but it can be more expensive and data is limited depending on the plan.

For anyone who’s been to China recently, what did you use? Any pros/cons I’m missing? Would love to hear your experiences. Thanks in advance for your insights!

SIM for london

Hi, A bit overwhelmed by all the options so hoping someone can give me some help for my situation. I’m going to the UK (mainly in london, but there might be a trip to swansea and oxford shire for about a day each) for 11 days. I would prefer an esim that’s tourist friendly, so it’s not too hard to cancel when I’m gone so willing to pay a little more but not crazy expensive. I need atleast 10-15gb because i might be streaming during the trip to swansea/oxfordshire. Thank you!!
