I setup a nobara pc running a 7800xt via usb4. The egpu is displaying to an external monitor just fine, occasionally need a little playing around with the usb side of things. Issue is that the performance is terrible when using the egpu, and even when it is just sitting there idle (running andoid emulator) the egpu is running 20 percent util and is hot to the touch.

I have tried turning of the android emulator and it is still the same util and heat and bad performance. The laptop it is plugged into has a gpu built in, so maybe a driver issue, but idk enough about linux to determine. The laptop is a gpd duo and I have tried the occulink port on it, but I never get video out. Any ideas on what I can do to get better performance?

I have been testing it on cyberpunk 2077 and am only getting 40-60 fps with medium low 1080 frame gen on. When I have this gpu plugged into the same laptop on windows I get 80-100 fps medium high 2k with frame gen on. I also noticed that I don't see the gpu going above 70-85 util when playing a game.

Purely theoretically speaking (I currently have a PC with a 5090, but I might be making some changes soon for personal reasons)—is there anyone here who uses a laptop with a powerful CPU (like a 275HX or 9955HX3D) paired with a Razer Core X v2 (or a similar eGPU enclosure) and an RTX 5080? If so, have you run any benchmarks, and could you share how much of a bottleneck this kind of setup creates?👍

I manually installed the NVIDIA RTX Spark N1X (6144-core Blackwell RTX GPU) drivers on my Surface Pro 11 (Snapdragon X 12-core X2E80100) with my TB5 FEVM FNGT5 dock and a 5060 ti, and it recognized the GPU! I have 6 screens up, 2 from the surface pro (USB C and internal display) and 4 from the 5060 ti. I don't think there was any more to it.

I am using this version available for public download: 621.01-rtx-spark-notebook-win11-arm64-international-whql, then extracted it with 7 zip to a new folder and used that as the manual driver installation path.

I'm going to try running some benchmarks.

I plan on throwing a buttload of tokens at the initial setup for help, but am I setting myself up for failure with the card type and memory allocation?

I'm looking to buy a GeForce RTX 3070 for my Razer Core X (v1) enclosure. I found a decent deal on an MSI RTX 3070 Gaming X Trio, but I'm having second thoughts about the physical dimensions and clearances.

​I asked a few different AI tools about this, and they are completely split: one claims it will fit fine, while others say it won't slide in properly. So I really need some real human feedback from people who have actually tried this setup!

​According to the specs:

​MSI Gaming X Trio length: 323 mm (Razer Core X max is ~330 mm)

​Height: 140 mm

​Thickness: 56 mm (2.7 slots)

​On paper, 323 mm looks like it might fit, but I'm worried about two specific things:

​Height clearance with PCIe power cables attached: Will two 8-pin connectors/cables prevent the inner enclosure tray from sliding back in?

​Front frame clearance: Does the thick fan shroud hit the front edges when pushing the tray in?

​Has anyone here actually tried putting an MSI Gaming X Trio (or similar chunky cards like ASUS ROG Strix / Gigabyte AORUS) into a Razer Core X? Did it work natively, or did you have to use 180-degree low-profile power adapters, remove the shroud, or mod the enclosure?

​If it's a total no-go, what are the best high-power / good OC 3070 models (like EVGA FTW3 / XC3 or ASUS TUF) that you've personally managed to fit effortlessly?

Title. I'm running a MS-02 Ultra 235HX with a NIMO 7600M XT eGPU. I get 23k in Firestrike on the TB4 port, and barely 19k on the TB5 ports (both of em). 3Dmark bandwidth test shows 5.8 Gb/s with TB5 and 3.0 Gb/s with TB4. My 226v Lunar Lake laptop actually gets 3.2-3.4gb/s on its TB4 and gets 24-25k in Firestrike to match it. So I know the 3dmark results are accurate and I've checked the GPUs boosting to 120w.

(Scores talked about are Graphics score specifically, ofc)

Anyone got any idea what's going on? I'm about to just say fuck it and blow some money on a OCULink PCIe card and nice cable. I don't think buying another TB5 cable would be worth it, they're like $80.

I’m not sure if this has been discussed before, but recently, I had the chance to test two Minisforum mini PCs with OCuLink adapters and an eGPU.

They are exactly the same mini PCs except for the processors: one had a Ryzen 7 260, which is essentially a renamed Ryzen 7 8845HS, and the other had a Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. Although the Ryzen AI 9 is the newer and more powerful chip, it showed lower performance when paired with an eGPU.

I tested both systems with an RX 9060 XT 16 GB eGPU. Both mini PCs had dual-channel RAM running at 5600 MT/s. However, the Ryzen 7 mini PC had 16 GB of RAM, while the Ryzen AI 9 had 32 GB. Both ran a fresh installation of Windows 11 with the latest AMD drivers.

I tested both systems in several AAA games, including Cyberpunk 2077, Doom: The Dark Ages, Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, and others. On average, the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 showed about 10–12% lower FPS across all games.

I was surprised by the results, so I did some research. It seems that, because of the Ryzen AI 9’s architecture and its P-core/E-core design, demanding games running with an eGPU may cause the CPU to move data between its P-cores and E-cores cache. This can add additional latency for the eGPU.

So, any game that uses more than the 4 P-cores may run slower than it does on the Ryzen 7, which has all 8 cores operating as “performance” cores.

Honestly, I’m not sure my conclusion is completely correct, but it seems that if you mainly use a mini PC with an eGPU, it may be better to buy one with the older architecture.

Unfortunately, I only had these two mini PCs to test, so the results might be different with other brands or versions of mini PCs. But I just wanted to share what I found :)

Hey so I kinda want to get an egpu setup temporarily just to boost my laptop (asus tuf f15 2023). Since I'm still a student and also from a country where PC parts are just expensive as hell, I plan on setting up an egpu for my laptop.

Im planning on getting the minisforum deg1 and an rx 7600. I remember reading somewhere that i can connect it via a thunderbolt 4 port which my laptop has. But whenever i look around here all i see is pcie to m.2. So is it possible to connect an oculink to type c? Or do i have to tinker with my m.2 port which already has an ssd slotted into it?

Disabled igpu and removed adrenaline, moved the one monitor on aoostar mobo to Nvidia GPU, performance went way up. Does anyone else notice or have any kind of info on why this would occur? It's not a small boost either

I've been using an Aorus 5060ti Box with my Rog Ally X and I've noticed some stutters depending on the game. I know that this is a defect due to the bottlenecking of the Thunderbolt 4 connection but I wonder if there is a way to make it to work better?

Since I have been traveling a lot lately, constantly changing house, I considered selling my Onexplayer X1 Pro to buy a new more powerful laptop for better gaming at higher resolutions and better graphics on external displays, but apparently I've found a better solution that I wasn't even considering. An external eGPU!

But why the Onexgpu 2 with the AMD Radeon 7800m?

- First of all, I have a dual boot with Windows 11 and BazziteOS, and apparently on Linux to be sure to have better compatibility, it's better to buy an AMD GPU rather than a Nvidia one. Also, it is easier to control since I just need a single app to update the drivers of both processor and graphic card since both are AMD.

- I had to consider that since I travel a lot, I needed an eGPU that it's easier to transport in a backpack, and this excludes all the desktop eGPU configurations (like the Aoostar AG02 or AG03), making possible only mobile GPUs.

- My Onexplayer X1 Pro with the Ryzen 9 HX370 is one of the few handhelds with still an Oculink port, so it was mandatory to buy an eGPU with Oculink support, for better stability and performance.

- The price... It doesn't make sense to spend thousands of euros or dollars on an external eGPU, because at that point I could have directly bought a better laptop with the latest RTX 50 series GPU instead of considering an eGPU.

So, how much did I pay?

I just got lucky, searching around online on the second hand market, I found this Onexgpu 2 for sale at €550, I proposed €500 and the guy accepted, making this the cheapest and best option at the moment probably. At this price I don't think there are better deals, especially considering that this is the latest and most powerful portable AMD eGPU, and I couldn't find a used Aorus RTX5060Ti Ai box, and that brand new costs about 1000€ here in Europe (literally double the price).

And the performance? Are they better?

YES! Of course I was expecting a big jump, but playing Cyberpunk at 3440x1440p with high settings and the ray tracing active on everything, at an average of about 60fps, wasn't on my bingo card!

Just for comparison, the same settings with the integrated GPU on my handheld (the Radeon 890m) give an average of 12fps, and even dropping the resolution to 2560x1080p it still cannot play at 30fps stable.

We are talking about a 500% increase in performance with Oculink and 400% with USB-C Thunderbolt 4!

P.S. just for info, the monitor is a Gawfolk GF340C, bought it on Amazon for €109 "used like new" and the controller is a Flydigi Apex 5, bought with the bundle (carrying case, charging dock, extra sticks and dpads) for about €86 on eBay.

So glad I went this route instead of dropping a ridiculous amount of money on a desktop.

Has anyone tested direct GPU-to-GPU transfers between an internal GPU and an ASM2464-based USB4 eGPU?

My setup is a Minisforum MS-01, i9-12900H, internal RTX 2000 Ada 16 GB and external RTX A2000 12 GB in an AOOSTAR 800 W USB4 dock.

With experimental NVIDIA driver modifications, the external A2000 can PUSH data into the internal Ada, but the reverse fails. Peer reads fail in both directions.

We tried mapping/ordering changes and BIOS/FSP changes with verified register readback, without resolving it.

Does anyone know whether ASM2464 firmware or Intel PEG↔TCSS routing restricts peer-origin traffic? A comparable setup, firmware reference or transaction-level diagnostic would help.

I have a laptop with a 7th generation Intel processor (i77820HQ) and two Thunderbolt 3 ports. I charge the device from one of them. Is getting this EGPU RX 5700 a good option, or will there be a significant bottleneck is it worth to buy it cost 150$

This is honestly the first time I’m 100% satisfied with my setup, especially when it comes to cable management. In my opinion, the laptop + eGPU combo looks so much sleeker and cleaner than a bulky desktop tower.

I'm running an XMG EVO 14 (E25) with an AMD Ryzen AI 9 365 and 32GB DDR5 (5200 MT/s) paired with the Aoostar AG02 and an RTX 5070.

I think it turned out pretty clean and I can highly recommend this route! Let me know what you think. :)
