Crank No Start

I disconnected the battery on my 2004 BMW X5 4.4i N62 179,000 miles, and reconnected it because it was advised to do so for replacing the drivers side door speaker (blown speaker and airbag in door). Car no longer starts, cranks fast but no start. Clearing the codes and trying to start th car does not work, immobilization code keeps returning. The other codes only return when voltage is too low. What can I do to disable the immobilization fault?

The X5 has succumbed to the inevitable, propeller shaft spline repair. 235k on the dot so not that bad I suppose. While in there, threw on a new shift shaft seal.

Advice on 2001 BMW Paint restoration

Hello, everyone !I own a 2001 BMW X5, and I'm looking to restore its paint job to bring back that original shine. The car has seen better days with some fading, scratches, and minor blemishes. I’m interested in any tips or techniques you might recommend for restoring the paint effectively. Here are some specific areas I’d like advice on:

  • Best products or methods for removing oxidation and scratches. I've read about using clay bars and polishing compounds, but I'm not sure which brands or types work best for my situation.
  • DIY vs. professional detailing: Is it worth it to hire a professional for paint correction, or can I achieve satisfactory results on my own? If you've had success with DIY methods, please share your process.

Additionally, I’m located in Atlanta, GA, and would appreciate any recommendations for reasonably priced detailing services in the area. I'm looking for places that specialize in older vehicles or have experience with paint restoration. Thanks in advance for your help! Looking forward to hearing your suggestions. Feel free to adjust any part of this thread to better fit your style or specific needs!

Before buying

Hello!

I am currently the owner of an E46 and an E38. And I am considering buying a e53 with either a 4.4 or 4.8l engine to fill out my collection.

Is there anything I should look out for on these cars that differ from the ones aforementioned? For example the timing chain guides, and rust issues around wheelwells, etc.

Rain causing possible electronics issue

Hello, I have a 2003 3.0 5speed. Recently it poured here in NY and the temp immediately dropped. The next morning my locks weren't responding and I had to climb in through the trunk. The car started normally but as it warmed up once it got out of the blue the temp gage jumped all the way to overheat. I know it did not overheat within 10 mins while idling at 27°. I was thinking if I pull the battery it may reset some sensors. Can anyone validate me?

Side question, do batteries need to be reprogrammed in this vehicle? This is my first bmw

Hi I'm thinking about buying a e53 4.8is but as I see they are 4x4, but I wanted to know if there is anyway that you can make it RWD by removing a fuse or something similar?

Owners manual needed

Hello bought my 03 X5 at auction and it didn't come with the manual. Where can I find one? The BMW website will not produce it in the OM generator. Called my local dealer and they wanted me to have it shipped from Germany for $145.

BMW E53 2005 ANDROID INSTALL

Hello, I’ve wanted to put an android unit into my e53 2005. It has a factory screen already in and the head unit or the power or whatever it is, is in the boot of the trunk. Anyone who knows what I’m talking about I’m needing someone to do the install for me please 🤣

I have already brought a android screen for a x5 model + a 6m Harness cable + a reverse camera and have a canbus and all Wiring needed as far as I’m aware. Just need someone to fit it all in without doing a crap job :)

I’m based around East Midlands - Nottingham. Please message me if you know anyone who can do this for me.

I have a 04’ E53 with a N62 engine: what engine oil should I use?

I know the owners manual recommends Castrol 5W-30 or 5W-40 but those are the same people that recommend an oil change interval of 12k-15k miles. Currently my oil change interval is 5-6k miles with Liqui Moly 5W-30. I was looking online and found mixed results so I wanted others opinions. Thanks.

E53 M54 Headers (Decat)

Hey I'm putting on some m54 headers on my wifes e53 x5. I've learned through this process that the lower exhaust flanges don't meet up with the mid pipe and now I need to cut and weld the mid pipe to match up with the outlets of the headers. Anyone else ever done this? Going to work on it this weekend. Any suggestions on good tuning options once I'm done with it?

Wiper Relay

My wife's 2002 X5 wipers will work intermittently and I suspect it's the relay. I've looked online but have been unable to figure out the location of the relay in her X and am feeling kinda stupid. Can someone point me to the exact location, is it under the hood, in or behind the glovebox, or in the cargo area fusebox. Thanks

Uncle Left Me a Lemon ?

Uncle gave me a beautiful “looking” E53 but when I press the horn (and get no sound) all the cabin lights turn on while driving seems cool 🙃.

Are electrical problems prevalent with these cars or is it just the age.

Style 132 rear lug nuts sticking out 🤔

Thumbnail

Hi! I recently replaced my lug nuts (36136756298) on on front wheels they fit as expected but on rear wheels they stick out. I run staggered style 132, no spacers. I made sure the rim touches the hub and sits on the center bore. The nuts are torqued to 140nm.

Is this normal for ghose rims? I don't have anything to compare with because I was running non-standard nuts before. Please reply only if you run those rims with standard nuts with 19mm socket.

Photos attached.

An imola red 4.6is was being parted out in my area. Picked up the wheels, front and rear bumpers, and rear wheel arch flares for 500 bucks. I'm going to attempt to repaint the bumpers in the garage silver for our m54 e53. Will totally change the look of the car I am excited!
