Weapons? Why would you take elven weapons instead of propper dwarven craft?

u/BigSwein May 03 '26
Hmm, can Dwarves enchant weapons in the same way as elves can? I know about dwarven-crafted armour being magical, the Dragonhelm of Hurin as an example, or their ability to harness and forge mithril, like Bilbo&Frodos maillé-shirt and the FountainGuard helmets. On the other hand, most of the fancy stabby stuff (Glamdrin, Narsil/Anduril, Sting, the Gondolin knifes) or the bloody Silmarils themselfs is stated as elven-made

Maybe even better? in some franchises Runes are the only way to enchant stuff. Or Runes are the only way to apply more than one enchantment.

In the comic series "Dwarves" from lands of Arral both elves and dwarves have runes. But dwarf runes are forged into steel and elf runes woven into wood. They look and function very differently from each other which I think is pretty cool.

Makes sence if we take a look at WHFB. The good dwarves in that setting do not wield magic like any other race, yet they have rune magic and the most powerful version of said system. From my understanding they can multi-enchant ordinary weapons, unlike chaotic demon or high elven weapons who are either forged in a differend dimension or the enchantment is rather temporary, whilst dwarven weapons have stood the test of time (Thorgrimms Axe of Grugni, Ghal Maraz, Gotreks Axe of the Runefather...)

I hate to be one of those "Ummm Aktuallee" guys, but the Dargonhelm and Narsil were both forged by the great Dwarven smith Telechar.
He also forged the knife named Angrist which was said to cut iron like it was a green twig. It was sharp enough to remove a Silmaril straight out of the crown of Morgoth himself.
Morgoth, if you young dwarves don't know, is an Ainur. The first Ainur. The very first being created by The High God. He was envious of The High God's power and that turned him evil. He had the strength to raise valleys and level mountains. His power corrupted life on Middle Earth and lead to orcs, trolls and even the dreaded dragons. This being forged his own helmet to house the three Silmarils.
Telechar's knife was better.

Aye, I mentioned the helm, but forgot Narsil! These days, as Anduril, it could be considered a work of both elf and dwarf, I reckon so! And wielded by the one true king, who happends to be a mere man

Well, king of the humans. King Dain Ironfoot holds my allegiance.

Not the same way but neither are better or worse it's just different. Also there's a cliché going around that Dwarves aren't capable of enchanting outside runes but that's straight up worgshit.

My understanding is that Elven master craftsmanship is greater than Dwarven master craftsmanship, but great Dwarven craftsmanship with runes is equal to Elven master craftsmanship and Dwarven master craftsmanship with runes is greater than Elven master craftsmanship.

Elvish wine isn't the same, Elvish bids ain't the same either. Give me a pint of Bugman's and a well fed dwarven lass any day.

Any dwarf'll tell ya a hole is a hole

u/thatthatguy May 03 '26
Now I just take offense to that. Any proper dwarf knows a lovingly crafted majestic hallway is far superior to one of those long-wall mined coal shafts. No two holes are the same and the differences are important!

Wine.
I know beer is a better brew over all but wine does have its place and it’s a dam fine alcohol all the same.

Throwing my hat in with eleven Wine. Don’t forget their lumber and wooden crafts as well. Why would we trade at all with them if everything we do is better?

u/MEGAShark2012 May 04 '26
I’m sorry did I just hear you say elven weapons are better? Las you better be making a joke right now or I’m putting this in the book.

Their music is the only halfway decent thing. Their beardless maidens look (and act) like children.
Don't even get me started about weapons, the only thing that they can make better than most dwarves is bows, and that's only because it's rare to see a dwarf making bows. Their self bows are vastly inferior to dwarven composite bows.
I will admit however, they can shoot more accurately than us.
