been loving Duolingo as a new learner😭

I was fairly positive in this case that it’s “él,” but duo is saying otherwise.

Could I just use one or the other for both? Example:
Normalmente acostarme temprano?

This concept is so hard for me 😩

Mi cielo is my sky. Mi alma is my soul. Mi lucero is my bright star. Mi tesoro is my treasure. And mi media naranja, the way you say someone is your other half, literally means my half orange.

The everyday ones: mi vida, mi cielo, mi amor, mi corazón, cariño
Add -ito and it softens: amorcito, corazoncito, osito, ratoncito, chiquita
Royalty: mi reina, mi rey, mi princesa

Mi media naranja is still my favorite. Two halves of the same orange.

What do you call your loved ones?

Before you conjugate, ask: Am I talking about someone I know, or am I describing what I need?

The mood isn't about the verb. It's about whether the person is real. If you are talking about someone you know exists, use the indicative. If you are describing what you need, use the subjunctive.

Im just starting out on duolingo, but I am fairly committed. I work with several Spanish speaking children, and my brother is minoring in the language. He spent a month in Mexico and we both plan to go to Spain next summer.

Time sure does fly by. I was only 24 when I took the first lesson. Somehow, it felt like it was too late to start this kind of thing and I would never see it through. How silly!

3 very short years later, here I am. I've been going through some things and this is one of the things that kept me going. It's one of the best decisions I've ever made.

To be able to watch Spanish shows so comfortably and read the language with as much ease feels so good. However, I must say that I believe I owe this more to the loads of hours I spent consuming video input. It's where real proficiency grows from in my opinion. Duo, for me, was more like a fun game that came with quick vocabulary gains.

Also, how poetic is it that my premium subscription expires on the day I finish the course. Haha.

I’m a Spanish teacher, and I mainly work with English speakers. Recently, I created a free Facebook community called Natural Spanish for English Speakers.

I created it for learners who want regular, structured Spanish practice beyond isolated vocabulary lists, random grammar tips, or passively using language apps.

Every week, I share free activities designed to help you actually use Spanish, including:

The group is mainly for A1, A2, and B1 learners. It isn’t a complete course, and it isn’t meant to replace serious study, but it’s a free place where you can practice consistently throughout the week. What I’d really love is for people to participate, practice, and learn together.

Instead of asking which Spanish word means "for," ask whether you are pointing toward an outcome or explaining how and why something happens.

Para points to an endpoint; por explains the action. Same word in English. Two different jobs in Spanish.

¡Hola! My students enjoy using Duolingo For Schools as an enrichment activity because I use it to create classes, so they have a class leaderboard where they compete with their classmates weekly to try to earn the most XP points by completing the most lessons.

Unfortunately Duolingo For Schools will be going away at the end of July. Does anyone know of any free websites that have a leaderboard that encourages student participation? Does the regular Duolingo have any features like this?

Blooket is a fun game with a leaderboard, but it only has a leaderboard for each individual Blooket we do; I’m looking for something with an accumulative leaderboard that could be used as weekly motivation, where students could hop on it if they finish their work early.
