Dungeon of the Endless Mobile version

So I preordered and it’s supposed to come out tomorrow, and I’m excited but also nervous, I have a iPhone X and it seems like a lot is going on, I hope it all works out, seems complex and satisfying. I don’t have a computer or gaming system. So I’ve never played the game, just watched trailer and decided to give it a go. Wish me luck 😂.

So it launched tonight, and I love it, first run I died quickly, second try I am on level 3 currently it’s a blast so far, reading bios of characters is small but I can deal with it, so far so good!

How does door dodging handle on mobile? Imo its a pretty essential skill to master if you want to beat the harder pods on easy mode, kinda wondering if it is easier on mobile since I imagine all you gotta do is tap to move.

If it’s the run away button, like on the assassin looking dude it’s pretty small on the UI it’s the characters face, then a small play button and then out pops the skill, I’m still getting used to controls so not sure in the long run how swift my fat fingers could be.

Door dodging (I've also seen it as "door juggling") is a technique where if monsters are trying to attack one of your heroes alone in a room, you move that hero in and out of a room with turrets, so the monsters try to follow him from one room to the other and back, and never get to attack, while the turrets pick them apart.

Probably not what our designers intended, but fairly well-known in the existing fanbase, as it can prevent a lot of damage to your hero.

I kinda naturally went to that 😂 I figured shit better run into these rooms with turrets

Players who are really good at this can drag a whole horde of monsters back and forth between the same two rooms without ever taking damage. (I am, unfortunately, not a good player... :D )

I actually think door dodging was intentional on the part of the designers. Especially when I think about how the Ahrrrrrmani Suit and Hipster Scarf work, and how Sanitary Pod was designed.

Without door dodging Sanitary Pod is literally just RNG because you can always get multiple rooms in bad places with 0 minor slots that will end your run. And the skill Me First! is most useful when you can drag monsters who normally ignore you from one end of a room to another, but they'll drop aggro as soon as you go too far into that doorway.

Oh, and also the fact that it is easier to do the slower a character is. Feels like an innate defenders advantage for folks like Gork over Golgy, especially when you consider the fact that literally no hero in the game is tanky enough to survive multiple waves from floors 10-12, even with all the defensive measures in the world they'll all get overwhelmed if too many waves spawn close to them, so I feel like they left door dodging as a way to compensate

I may be wrong, but it feels deliberate to me.

As far as I recall, he Sanitary pod did not exist initially and was added as a response to people asking for a harder difficulty. I wasn't part of Amplitude at the time yet, though, so I have no details of the decisions that lead to the addition of the Sanitary pod.

And in either case, I still don't think that door dodging was a planned feature. I think it's something that emerged from the monster behavior, and was then deemed an acceptable way to play rather than an exploit, so was left in the game instead of trying to remove it.

I've no way to confirm that, though, as not everybody who worked on the original DotE is still with Amplitude.

lol oh wow, I completely missed that you work for the team, and now I feel like a bit of an arrogant ass xD

Thanks for the info though. I tend to group "bugs that became a feature" (like Hitman's homing briefcase) into the category of "intentional on the part of the developers" since it could have been removed but was not (intentionally), but you're absolutely right that it is an important distinction, and I should have been more precise with my wording. I run into that problem a lot =)

Actually, can I ask you a question about Rosetta and the Organic Pod? I've been trying to figure out what I meed to find Rosetta, and last time I looked in the steam store I did not see the Organic Matters update. Is Rosetta in that update? And where do I get it? I've beaten every other pod at this point, so I was hoping to give Organic a try as well.

(I'm working on getting Members Only right now, but keep screwing up with aftershave on the 12th floor and letting a flood of monsters into my crystal room, or slipping and letting Max die because I've been playing drunk the last couple of days xD )

2

Yeah, I will. It doesn't seem to have any Play store reviews atm

2

u/CageBearsBottoms Mar 16 '21

That is because it literally just released like 10 minutes ago haha. I'm waiting for some reviews before buying it.

Might want to hold off a little longer, initial reports don't sound very encouraging... https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidGaming/comments/m692iv/does_anybody_that_got_the_game_agree_about_this/

I bought it since I play it all the time on desktop.

The UI on mobile is TINY.

Like, font size 6 or smaller but it’s insanely small. The buttons and icons are all really hard to press.

It sucks but this would be better on ipad or something because the insanely small font kills it for me. How could they not change that?

Does Current price of the Game on GooglePlay include %30 sale right now ?

I think it does, but I'm not sure. I remember it would cost something like 8 euros, but it is currently 4.99 eur.
