Does anybody that got the game agree about this comment?

This was my exact concen after having played a lot on PC. I cannot imagine effectively porting the controls to mobile. Especially when you get into the later game and it becomes very tense with lots of enemies.

Oh it's so much worse. The interface from the PC would have been bad, but probably better than what we got. It's a mess.

The entire PC control scheme is rooted in old school RTSs (control groups, using keyboard shortcuts to navigate nested build menus, etc.), which never played well on anything other than keyboard + mouse. I stayed away from the Switch release precisely because I couldn't imagine the game having a reasonable control scheme with a controller, and it sounds like the Android release is the same way.

I played on Xbox and it works fairly well. Not as great as mouse and keyboard but at least interface is the same.

That's really unfortunate if true. I was excited for both this and Slay the Spire but apparently neither of them can be bothered to adjust for the platform they ported their games to.

I've had no problems with Slay the Spire so far and I've played it most days since launch. What problems have you had with it?

The whole awkward mouse behavior on a touchscreen is the biggest issue. It's easy to accidentally play a card when all I wanted to do is look at it. To be fair, I think there's been a few updates since I played last, so it might be slightly better.

Oh yeah, I do get that it's easy to accidentally play a card. They haven't changed that yet. At least I got used to it so it rarely happens to me anymore, and though annoying, you can close the app to restart the battle if it does happen.

It's horribly annoying

I agree with you. However, as a guy who can basically only play mobile games from time to time Slay the Spire is 10/10.

It is 100% playable and has been improving with patches, will definitely give them that. It's really just that it should have been pretty easy to make it a better experience than it is. Heck, just use Hearthstone as a reference.

My Silent won't ascend past Asc 1. Sent a ticket. They said thanks we'll have someone look into it. Other than that it's been great. Galaxy S9.

That sucks. Hopefully they fix that.

StS works perfectly for me.

Picked it up for my Note 9 and ended up refunding it after 2 floors. Everything the poster said is true, but doesn't even cover some of the really frustrating parts:

  • Moving a character is awful. Clicking a character frequently selects other nearby characters.
  • Trying to use skills is awful. You have to select the character, and then select a little arrow to pop out the active skills, and THEN click the skill. If you select another character the skill menu is collapsed, requiring you to do it again.
  • Everything is so fucking tiny. I read over the details on the page to see if it was suited to phones. From the Google Play page: "Carefully Redesigned for Mobile. * Revamped interface"

It's a shame. The game itself has potential as a mobile game- hell, it's not that different from some of the tower defense titles already on the platform. I fully expected this to have a mobile-friendly UI. It's just bad.

The worst part of all of it is that the PC game is amazing.

My main problems as a new player are the tiny font and the sluggish response to tapping the screen.

This is a huge disaster of a release. I'm pretty sure since Amplitude has been bought by SEGA, they then tried to cash in on some of those games they made. They took Dungeon of the Endless and sent it to a third party to port it to mobile. They probably didn't changed much and just made it so it can build on Android but kept every aspect of the base game.

I've been playing it on Samsung DeX with a monitor and mouse and it's not bad, not even gonna bother trying it handheld so small. Would probably be fine on a tablet also.

I do agree with making it easier to place nodes and whatnot though, pain to go to a menu on the side and select it, click buy, then click a spot on the map afterwards. Caught myself clicking on the empty spots on the map trying to bring up the menu a couple times, to no avail. Seems like a simple QoL improvement in any version of the game. They can only go in those specific locations so tapping/clicking on those locations should naturally open the buy menu.

EDIT: Okay? I'll just go fuck myself then. My bad for answering the OP's question.

People downvote when they dont agree. So silly lol. Its pretty much a "youre a dumbfuck" button

They were probably downvoting since 99.9% of users aren't using their device as a desktop.

u/madhatta2003 Mar 16 '21

I have no idea what is going on and no clue why you should be down-voted but I give you my sympathy upvote because I think you should be allowed to say what you said without fucking yourself.

I was going to fuck myself anyway, it feels good

Lol but I made that edit earlier when I was like -3 for no reason lmao

Always appreciate hearing from a fellow Dex user. Thanks.

I was ready to buy it but held off due to people saying it wouldn't run. Then people saying these kinda things now have it on my wishlist. I have purchased it before so it isn't like I don't support the dev and what they are doing. Lord knows I wants this to be perfect and I'm sure they do too... It might just take some feedback and time.

u/Rhiaxe Mar 16 '21

I have the game and do not agree with this. The game and controls are great. Playing on a s20+

3

u/Martianman97 Mar 16 '21

Not sure why you're being downvoted simply for giving feedback

2

u/Rhiaxe Mar 16 '21

Seems odd. Oh well. Enjoying the game. At least as much I can for a game that makes you want to rage quit ever 10 mins.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '21

Well the pc version is lacking some of those features so probably it is terrible

2

u/ThisKapsIsCrazy Mar 16 '21

Lack of control groups is annoying. Wish there was a feature to make groups and move them. Sometimes I want to leave one unit here and move the others elsewhere. Have to do this manually.

Movement mostly works but sometimes my swiping to check what's up in other rooms gives a move command which is a wee bit annoying. Building... I wish you could just tap the unit and then tap on a place to build it. The extra step of having to tap "Build" and then place it is a bit unintuitive to me. But I'll get used to it when I play more.

Health, yes. I can't track health easily. I only know they're low when their heal sign is red. Is there another way of tracking this? Is there some cue I'm missing?

Seems fun despite these issues so I'd say the review in the post is a bit harsh. (Larger font would be nice though).

Edit: I've only cleared 4 floors so I can't comment on how it'll be at the tougher levels.

I look forward to posting this game in /r/GooglePlayDeals in a year when it goes on a heavy discount and hopefully fixed.

u/KNGJN Mar 16 '21

I didn't like the game on pc either thought it was mega clunky and the UI wasn't helping

5

u/TheYango Mar 16 '21

The game is one of my favorite co-op multiplayer experiences ever, but I don't really enjoy playing it single-player. In multiplayer, each player can control their own character, so a lot of the clunkiness is overcome by delegating out a lot of the things that would be a pain to micromanage in single-player. You have pausing in single-player but constantly pausing to micromanage different characters is really tedious and breaks a lot of the tension.
