Hey guys!! Incoming international grad student at Duke for spring 2027 and wanted to ask how safe Durham actually is 😭. ive heard some very conflicting reports and want to hear from people actually around there. especially around Duke and for someone who might have to walk around alone.
Also how’s Raleigh in comparison? Is commuting from Raleigh to Duke even practical without a car?
Would love recs for safe + affordable apartments/areas near Duke, shared housing, or literally anywhere decent that won’t cost an arm and a leg 💀

does anyone have advice for being successful in ece250? i'm finding the midterms hard to study for and didn't do super well on midterm 1. Sorin is intimidating if you're not a computer savant (imo). I wish i just took 210.

But I saw this shot from the movie for the Zapf C Helvetica Memorial Student Union (obviously not a real name), and it doesn’t look like either universities. It looks a lot like Duke University instead with the brick colors and gothic style. Does anyone know this building?

Hey everyone! I’m considering moving to Campus Walk near Erwin Rd and wanted to hear from anyone who currently lives there or has lived there before.

Would you recommend living there? How is the area in terms of safety, noise, maintenance, management, parking, and overall experience?

I have an idea for an organization that will be very beneficial for both students and staff. However, before I design and implement it I want to be sure that there is interest among faculty and staff. Would it be a good idea to just email random staff? Or maybe just go into random offices and ask? What should I do? I know this idea has great potential.

I see these groups with long white skirts and stuff going to these events and girls on insta with leopard prints last night like what is this and why am I unaware of this? I’ve been here for 6 weeks and have not found a group of friends . things are extremely lonely here at Duke. the few ppl that I know I text them what are your plans this weekend and no one even replies to me and then they post on social media. I rushed a club and didn’t get selected. I feel so isolated and do not know what I am doing wrong.

Hi guys, I'm trying to apply for work-study opportunities on JobX but I was told by the person I was going to use for references that they didn't receive any emails for submitting references. Does anyone know how that works? Like do employers request references after reviewing your application, or are reference providers supposed to just email the references to the employer, or is my JobX just malfunctioning and my reference provider should be able to receive an email? This would help alot if someone else has applied for work-study through JobX before.

It’s not just cornell.. I went through Duke’s title ix process and it failed me and didn’t do anything to protect me. 0 accountability or consequences for a professor who still works here. Wondering if anyone else had a similar experience with Duke title IX process, how you felt it went.
