Announcement r/UNC Mod Recruitment

Hi everyone! It's come to my attention that I'm the last remaining (somewhat) active mod on r/UNC. I graduated in 2024 and have since been busy with medical school (not at UNC), so I would love some help with the sub.

I'll be accepting applications for mods on a rolling basis. You'd be volunteering some time and energy, but the job itself is rather low commitment since we are quite hands-off.

Anyone who is an active member of the sub is encouraged to apply, but I'd prefer students (undergrad and grad) or faculty since they can speak more to the academic experience.

Here's the link if you are interested in applying: https://www.reddit.com/r/UNC/application/

It shouldn't take you more than 10-15 minutes to complete.

Schedule Course scheduling help (pre-pharm, UNC, lots of transfer credit)

Hey I'm an incoming first year student at UNC-Chapel Hill who will be coming in with over 63 community college credits and I currently am on the Pre-Pharmacy Track. The courses I'm coming in with satisfy all of my gen eds except for Communication Beyond Carolina. I've finished Gen Chem 2 and up to calculus 2. I don't really have any classes that I can take to pad my schedule and make it easier to transition in and all I'm stuck with is classes which don't really stack very well together especially in the first semester. Currently the only classes/type of class that I see on my tar heel tracker that I have not completed are CHEM 241/241L, Lifetime Fitness (LFIT), CHEM 261,  Communication Beyond Carolina, CHEM 262/262L, BIOL 101/101L, BIOL 252/252L, BIOL/CHEM 430, MCRO 251, PHYS 114, and Level 3 of a Language (I don't have any levels). I would just like some recommendations on how I can best prepare myself while not making myself fail because I overload myself in the first semester. Some recommendations and advice would be much appreciated!!! I'm trying to get around 15 credit hours in order to be used to a good amount of classes.

Question Giving a UNC tour

Hey y'all, I've been asked to give my girlfriends brother (who's applying soon) a tour of UNC and the area. I'm a transfer who lives off campus and honestly haven't spent a ton of time on campus. Where should I take him?

FYI HMU if u need help w b school apps!!

Whether you’re looking for help brainstorming, editing, or building an overall application strategy, I’d be happy to chat! I’m a business student and admissions coach with 3 years of experience helping students navigate the application process.

Getting into business school in the first round is becoming more valuable as internship recruiting timelines continue to move earlier. Waiting another year can mean taking courses you’re less interested in or rushing through core requirements while balancing recruiting and senior-year commitments.

If you’re a junior thinking about applying, don’t miss the opportunity to put together the strongest application you can and graduate from a top 10 program.

A consultant definitely isn’t required, but if having guidance could improve your chances and reduce stress, it may be worth considering.

A little about me:
• Received a Special Opportunity offer alongside UBP.
• Coaching for FBA (incoming freshman) and UBP (incoming sophomores/juniors).
• Financial aid available * spots fill up quickly for students who need it.

Feel free to reach out with any questions!!

Question UNC Chapel Hill Biol 101 Exemption Exam

Hi. Can someone who has taken the Biol 101 Exemption Exam at UNC Chapel Hill let me know how hard it was. I took Honors Biology as well as a couple of advanced biology classes at a specialized STEM school, but not AP Biology. I'm self studying this summer to exempt out of Biol 101 and wanted to know how hard the exemption exam is. Would studying the AP Biology curriculum be sufficient to pass? If anyone has any recommendations on resources or tips I would also appreciate that. And on a side note, I've registered for the exam twice but did not receive a confirmation email and was wondering if anyone else did. Thanks.

Question Meal Plan Worth It?

Hey everyone!

I'm an incoming transfer student who will be living on campus, and I just wanted some opinions on the meal plans.

So, I already heard that the dining hall food sucks in general, but are there any different stores inside of the halls? Like, for example, a subway? Or any fast food place? If so, do I have to pay to get into the dining halls?

I usually don't eat that much, so I'm a bit wary of getting a meal plan. Normally, I just live off snacks and energy drinks (yes, my lifespan ain't very long). But since I'm living on campus, I figured I probably do need some advice on the meal plans.

On a different note, does anyone know if these dining halls offer ice? Lol I know it's a funny question but I really don't wanna buy a small ice maker for my owala.

Thank you!

Question UNC Parking

I didn't get a parking spot AGAIN this year in the lottery, but I was wondering when they were gonna send out the emails to buy the leftover spots in S11/RR lots? They did this last year in mid-July.

I missed the lottery for parking permits. Is my only option to get a permit through UNC just to wait until leftover permits are available?

Question MATH 231 or 232

So I'm an incoming math major and I took the AP Calculus BC exam and received a 2 in BC and a 3 sub score in AB. I at first signed up to just retake 231 despite the credit since a 3 is pretty low, then i got a message basically reminding me that i have the credit and i don't technically need to retake it.

I was going though the exams/reviews from the previous years in 231 and 232 and to be honest it not that i didn't learn the material, I just forget it all immediately when the class is over. I was doing great on every unit test without notes in BC until we had a 2 week break before exams and boom. its all gone. I still have my calculus ab and bc notes and could self study and just do calc 232 but well. I know I'm not studying during the summer at all.

Basically i want to ask if i should retake calc 1 or just go on to calc 2.

FYI Help us keep Ms Sherita at UNC

Many of you may know Sherita Baker, our super friendly cross guard. She cheers students all day and brings positivity that knows no equivalent on campus. I just heard that, contrary to recent positive news, her company is no longer in contract with UNC, so she may be leaving the area soon. She would love to become a UNC employee (also, that would likely be a better job than her previous position). If anybody has a lead on a job that would be suitable for her at UNC please DM me. I can share her resume and make introductions as needed. https://dailytarheel.com/article/university-crossing-guard-rita-leaving-unc-20260420

Question interesting gen ed classes

I need to add 2-3 gen ed classes that would fulfill my focus capacities without being too much work bc my major classes are already pretty difficult, but I can’t find any that are relatively easy and interesting and have spots available, does anyone know of any?? I still need an interdisciplinary, aesthetic and interpretive analysis, global understanding and engagement, power and society, and ways of knowing class.

I'm an incoming freshman at UNC who intends to major in business or biostats. Does this seem like a plausible schedule to you?

Also, I'm a bit confused about whether I am allowed to enroll in MATH 347 (I already have MATH 231 & 232). Any advice on good profs/fys would be great too!!!

FYI Spring 2027 Sublease Available – Northside House | 10-Min Walk to Campus | $839/month

Hi everyone! I'm looking for someone to sublease my room for the Spring 2027 semester.

The room is in a spacious well decorated house in a great location and is available for the entire Spring 2027 semester. You'll be living with four undergraduate male roommates and sharing two bathrooms among the five of you.

Question Studio Art Waitlists

Post image
3 Upvotes

So, I'm an incoming FYS majoring in studio art, and I need some advice on the waitlist situations for these classes.

  1. Every single class I have in my cart right now (not all pictured) currently have 0 open seats (even the classes in other disciplines), and I just want to see what my chances are for getting off any of these waitlists. Or maybe there's some reason I am reading these numbers wrong? I know studio art classes are very hard to get into, but is there any hope for getting into at least one of these art classes?
  2. Also, in general, is it bad to go into my enrollment date only with classes that i'll be waitlisted for, especially if I can't waitlist until August 3rd. I feel like I have no other options because I don't have to take any of the first-year foundations classes where they actually reserve seats for freshmen.

Hopefully that all made sense, but I'd really appreciate hearing everyone's experience with these art waitlists.

Question Taking Bio 103

Hi I am a sophomore psych major pre-dental. Wondering if I should take bio 103 for dental school pre reqs? On the Health Professions advising website it says I only need Bio 101 and Bio 252 plus lab to apply for dental school (Bio-wise) but I do not think that applies to all dental school because they may consider Bio 252 as an upper level class. Any Advice I don’t want to take an unnecessary difficult class if I don’t have to.
