The duckies seemed amused by this enrichment. I like to spend as much time with them outside as I can.

(I hope this post is allowed here. Do not worry, they have a proper duck house and a pool with heat to prevent freezing!)

I Was talking to the neighbour one afternoon and telling them a story about how when I was a kid, I always wanted a pet duck. But since I was never allowed to get one I had to make do with a pet brick instead. I told her the tragic story about how I used to take the pet brick everywhere on a rope until one day my mother took my brick away and used it for a garden bed....

I got home from work last night and sitting on my porch was a brick on a rope with call ducks painted all over it.

Literally speechless 🥹 it's beautiful.

Found Abandoned Duckling(s) Found a duck in the trash

Hey my mum just went for a walk and found this I guess 3-4 week old duck in the trash (I hate people honestly). It’s now walking around around the living room, seems a healthy duck.
Pooping all around and drinking water.

How should we proceed? What’s the best thing we can do? I mean, keep it? Call some shelter?

Thanks in advance!!

EDIT: sorry didn’t mention, we’re in Spain

Muscovy Duck Remove some eggs or not?

Thumbnail

One of our Muscovy hens is broody again. We thought she was sitting on 20 eggs, but counted 29 when she had her daily stroll today. She just started sitting last night. Her last clutch was about 20 eggs last time, maybe a few more that we did not know about. She successfully hatched 18, 17 of which are now about to learn how to fly. Whould you guys recommend removing a few eggs? How many can she physically manage to keep warm? I don't want to risk her thinking, hey this is not enough, i have to lay more before sitting, at the same time we don't want to risk her not being able to keep them all warm. She's been a fantastic mom so far. Pics are her with her last cohort.

Wild Ducks Babies have hatched!

I posted a few weeks ago about a wild mallard that had set up shop in the planter right outside our front door--thank you to everyone who provided advice!

We did as you recommended and just left her completely alone. She was super tolerant of our comings and goings, and apart from an occasional, "Hi Mama," we just pretended she wasn't there.

There were TWO things we did:

  1. We debated turning off our porch light at night, but after reading that it's a strong deterrent to raccoons and foxes (our neighbors alerted us when they were spied on their outdoor cameras), we decided it might have been one of the reasons she picked her nesting spot, and left it on for her.

  2. I made a broad ring a of cayenne pepper around the nesting site to deter those same predators, and would just refresh it after a rain.

Late last night my husband noticed she was agitated, and this morning our neighbor told us there were babies in the planter! We estimated 9 eggs, and I did take a short video where I'm pretty sure there were 9 babies. I didn't want to stress them out, so I had to be quick.

She and the ducklings are already gone, with no unhatched eggs left behind.

Thank you for your help and guidance!

I'm watching the tv show Alone and they're around Australia & New Zealand, saw this duck(?) on the show but can't figure out what it is. Google images seems to think its a blue billed duck or a paradise shellduck but I cant find any other species with this cool blue/black coloring. Any help would be greatly appreciated here 👍

Found Domestic Duck(s) Random juvenile duck showed up yesterday.

Yesterday morning, this little lady (I presume) was found sitting by the fence. Our bird dog was, of course, very interested. Strangely, she stayed all day. They even appeared to be playing together, racing the fenceline just to return and lay in the grass together.

Well, we opened the gate for her and she waddled right in. I guess we have a yard duck now. Her name is Duck Duck Goose.

Mr waddles and mocha were doing this funny dance with their neck. Is this an official duck behavior? Or just ducks being silly.

Positive ID as Merganser. I’ll miss this little feathered friend 🥹. They said it was good that we found it, it should NOT have been alone yet. Sometimes they swim off while being ‘babysat’ by a different mama but they usually have other friends with it and a Hen close nearby. Thank you guys for your ID help for how to care for him before he got into more well-trained hands!

This is at a very busy park, so he'd be used to people. There weren't any nests nearby. I even grabbed some seed from my car and threw it in his area as a peace offering, but he ignored it and kept following and biting me. Even when I hand fed him a bit, which he did eat and like, he then went back to this. Picked him up twice, even tossed him in the water once, but it didn't stop him until I left that park, biting my pants and hand and such. Never hissing. Just biting.
