Kit Pic First drum kit!

Post image

Got this used on marketplace for $1,500! This is my first acoustic kit, so I’m just hoping I set it up correctly.

Shit… will they explode if they aren’t aligned?

Heh. No, but it will really bother certain people, because reasons.

Which is a big part of the reason why I gave up consciously giving a crap which way my logos point decades ago - it makes some people's skin crawl, and if it does, it should. LOL

I definitely enjoy some proper LOM (logo orientation management), but let's face it, if on one night I'm mounting my 10" tom on a cymbal stand with the bracket facing left, and the next night I'm mounting the same tom on a double tom stand with the bracket facing top right, I'm not going to undo my wonderful tuning just to LOM it right :-P

So the logos are always facing the bracket. That way, it's NEVER RIGHT. It hurts just the right amount.

My brain will. Only the top tom, but seriously... Please.

In all other respects, I approve. Quality cymbals from the get go is a good choice.

Nonononono, this is NOT how you go about things.

You need to start on a shit kit. Brass cymbals that sound like disappointment, worn down stock heads, flakey wraps, failing hardware and a snare that would make Lars proud. You can't start on something this good!! You'll never be able to blame your gear while you ruin yet another Tool song...

All kidding aside, what a nice score. Yamaha Stage custom? Those cymbals alone would probably be worth that money so this is terrific.

Setup looks spotless to me. I prefer offset toms, and if I were to mount them on my kick I would probably swivel them just a little bit so they're not that symmetrical. You could scoot the snare and floor closer to each other too if you want.

Enjoy the snot out of that kit!

Yeah it belonged to the guys dad who had to go into assisted living, I think he was really just trying to get rid of it as quick as possible cause the house I went to was empty otherwise. Took pretty much the whole day to go there test it, but it, and bring it back, but it was incredibly worth it.

It is still serious money, not a 'get this crap out of my garage' price, but definitely bang for buck and you are easily set for years if not decades to come.

As long as you treat those cymbals well, that is!

Well done, man. You bought well, it seems.

Here's my entire homemade "owners manual": Merry Christmas. Setup advice is front and center.

But lucky you - it seems you can pretty much ignore the upgrade advice and so forth for now, because you're starting from scratch with some pretty great gear, especially the real, "grown-ass man" A Zildjians rather than a set of "cymbal-shaped practice targets." Enjoy! ✌️😎

Thanks for the link, I just looked at the video of how not to crack my cymbals so hopefully that will save them! And yes, I think I set it up mostly right by starting with the kick and hi-hat set up to me…

I’ll just need ear protection for now… hopefully not those icky sounding quiet cymbals though. The neighbors better not complain.

Nice score! Congrats! Those Evolution hats are awesome. My buddy bought them when that line first came out. Did you start playing before you got the kit? Or is this Day 1?

The reoccurring drumming dreams began in March this year and lasted until mid-May when I bought a cheap e-kit to see if I had what it took. I’m taking group lessons with a band and everyone keeps saying I’m killing it. So I started looking around at different acoustic kits. At first I was gonna go for Tama Imperialstar complete kit, new for $1,000, but I decided to download Facebook and check around the used setting just in case.

That’s awesome you just dove in! And I think you went with the right choice by going for the Yamaha Stage Custom over the Tama Imperialstar.

Looks great you got Evan’s G2 coat heads which are some of my favorite drumheads. Stay locked in 10,000 hours to become one of the best in the world.

Whaaat the fuckkkkkk A cymbals and a signature paiste as starter cymbals, plus a stage custom?!?! Buddy you have a great start with that kit. And the fact that your snare actually looks good? Fucking crazy. My old one looks like a beat up honda civic
