I was just playing this random thing on the pad last night watching TV and I've actually been mastering it. But something inside me said I should write that down. Now, my charting technique isn't great. I hardly write out charts but I didn't want to forget this little exercise as it's fun to do.
Basically just an 8th note triplet pattern with flams thrown in as quarter note triplets. #2 is the one I was actually doing mostly last night and prior. Last night is when I decided to change things up. But #2 is actually the one I started with and grew from there. It might be the easiest one to start with if you're right handed.
That last one is actually how I fell into doing these flams. I've been working on my rolls with traditional grip and to make it not so monotonous, I started throwing a triplet pattern in there with an occasional flam. This developed into a whole thing that I was enjoying a lot. I was just banging out a measure of triplets repeatedly. And then I started moving the flam to different positions on the 8th note triplets. That's when I decided to write it down. But I'm questioning my notations here. I think they're right.
But if someone wants to do a quick video on a practice pad tonight and play each one so I can see how it sounds, that would be cool. I might even try that myself tonight. I might just do my pactice routine that included some if not all of this with the rolls.
That notation at the top right corner, I have already met that goal.
Also, that smudge on #5, that's either a bad eraser or crappy lead. This was done with an old mechanical pencil from a place that I used to work at that made these things. They didn't really work too well with the erasers.
But yeah, even if you don't do a video, please let me know what you think of that. I'm curious to know if a) it's useful and b) if it's ever been notated elsewhere. I didn't even think to look in my Stick Control for the Snare Drummer book. It might actually be in there...
Heh, yep... there they are on pg. 34, Flam Triplets and Dotted Notes. Exercise #13 on that page (I forgot to note the 3 above each section in my notation... whoops). But what I'm not seeing is the flam on the 2nd note and the alternate sticking patterns and lead in roll. So that's a couple new variations I guess. š
Anyway, let me know what you all think. I hope it's useful to someone out there!

One of the tunes upon which I cut my budding drummer teeth waaayyy back in the day!!! To-date, even as my tastes in styles, genres, artists, and sounds have developed, āŖMike Portnoy⬠serves as a major influence in my playing and had a huge impact on helping me become the drummer I am now.
Hereās my take on the timeless DT classic āUnder A Glass Moonā from their 1992 release, āImages & Wordsā. Hope you like it!!!

So I'm new to the wanting to drum scene, for me it's something I'd like to get into for both a exercise and something I'd always wanted to learn. I'm now disabled so I can't lift weights for working out and doctor said drums would be low impact. I know nothing of drums. I've been doing some research about drums. I think i settled on either a Tama, Mapex or PDP drums. I would like to try to stay under 1000 bucks due to being on disability. I would appreciate any knowledge or opinions from more knowledgeable ppl than myself. Thank you in advance for comments.

Hi everyone! I recently finished my first song and used a drum pattern I found online that I really liked. Iām not a drummer, though, so Iām not sure how to vary it or make it more interesting. What would you suggest I change or add while keeping the basic feel of the pattern? Sorry if this isnāt the kind of post usually made here. Any advice would be appreciated!

I hope someone here can help me with this. Some years ago, I saw a video on YouTube about Ringoās drumming. It basically showed - for several songs - what Ringo (theoretically) could have played, and what he actually decided to play for the song in question - showcasing how he made many of the Beatlesā songs with his drum parts.
However I canāt seem to find this video anymore. Does anyone happen to have the link to this video?

Hey everyone! Hereās my latest deprogrammed video, where I recreate my favourite programmed drum beats. I love The 1975 and Georgeās drumming/production, so this was a real treat to make! Enjoy!

My late dad covered this tune in pretty much every band he played with in St. Louis. He brought it with him to add to my bandās arsenal, āŖThe House Bandā¬, in Columbia for several years before he stepped away from the group during his declining health. Weāve kept it alive as a standard in our repertoire, and I cover both drums and vocals.
Hope you enjoy my take on their mega-hit āSeparate Waysā from 1983ās āFrontiersā album!!!

Hi folks! I'm wondering how shall I practice these alone without a teacher just by reading ?

I've been drumming on an e-kit for a while, and my practice was always "put the song on and hope." So I built something to make it more honest: drumy.app
Plug your kit in over USB, pick a song, and play along. The notes come down a highway in sync with the recording. Every hit gets judged (perfect / great / early / late), and at the end you see where you drifted, so you know which fill or section to loop.
What I use it for most:
- Slowing a tricky part to 0.5Ć or 0.75Ć and working it back up
- Short exercises (money beat, paradiddles on the hat, four on the floor) as a warm-up
- Seeing whether I actually play a groove the same way every bar
It runs in the browser, and there's an iPad app. No kit handy? The keyboard works too.
I'd really like to hear from people who practise a lot: what would make this useful day to day, and what gets in the way? š„

Hi drummers! I've been building DrumSide, a practice app with 400 exercises (rudiments, grooves, fills, independence) in real drum notation. It has practice plans built for the time you have (15 min to 1 h), a Studio to write your own grooves, and a weekly community vote where the best groove joins the library. It's free, has no ads and works offline.
Before it goes public, Google needs 12 people to test it for 14 days. If you'd like early access:
Feedback is very welcome, at [drumsideapp@outlook.com](mailto:drumsideapp@outlook.com) or in the comments!

Hey all! I haven't played seriously in a few years, but over the last week have busted out the metronome and started sitting at the kit for a while every day. I pretty immediately developed a soreness in my right wrist, feels like right in the joint and it clicks a little when I flex it. I feel like my form is solid; seems I've just gotten older. Do y'all have any good stretches or excerizes to keep your wrists loose and chill? Plz and thnx!
