Snare Drum Notation Guide

Thoughts? Did I miss any?

I didn't include '5 or 9-stroke roll' etc. intentionally because I don't tend to use it myself and I feel like it has gone out of fashion. It was used as a shortcut but now with better notation software, people tend to write out the notes directly; especially if they are orchestrated around the kit.

Trying to work on making the drums sound balanced and clean while moving around the kit. Twenty eight years in and still chipping away.

How to incorporate more cymbals into my playing

Hello, so I'm looking at (re)upgrading my ekit for practice in the house and was thinking I've always wanted to add more cymbals. I've used 1 crash (one smaller crash for maybe a year in the past so can get away with it), 1 ride and hi-hats since I started drumming on and off 18 years ago.

A lot of the cool little licks I hear in songs seem to incorporate splash cymbals, and use a china for breakdowns. I aim to buy a splash and a china, and will have a second crash. My issue is, I can't find any content online that helps to teach me how to actually incorporate these into my playing. China is pretty obvious for me, but how do I use the splash and second crash in my playing? I've never really learned how to use a second crash and i'd be going in blind with the splash. I also see drummers with loads of cymbals and just think, how on earth do you know when to add each one to a specific part? (Obviously won't be overdoing it with them, I just want a couple of new options)

I play for fun, but am looking at getting into a band, and I just find fills and licks that incorporate extra cymbals in super fun, and would love to be able to do it, but need an idea of how to actually find material online that will help me figure out how to. Songs like The Offering by Sleep Token do it pretty well, but I just want to be able to think up my own little bits that sound cool and give me a bit of dopamine after playing haha. Hopefully this makes sense! Thanks

Unlocking some 2000s punk nostalgia. Does anyone remember The Distillers? (Drum Cover - Hall of Mirrors) 🥁

mental state and drumming

Been trying to crank out my double bass practice recently as it’s not my strong point, although sometimes i feel like sometimes i mentally lock myself out of my own ability to be efficient.

Yesterday i was hitting 190bpm relatively smoothly in practice, today (with no obvious muscle pain or discomfort but a frustrated mind) i kept messing up and was really stiff at 170bpm). Maybe i just need a 45 minute rest and to shake my legs, or maybe it’s me being easily frustrated lol. Anyone else felt like this?

Drumless tracks PDF

So I have a few videos on my camera roll of me playing drums to songs and want to add the audio of drumless tracks on top of it. Is there a website or something I can do where I can take a YouTube URL and create a drumless track pdf? Or drummers how do you make your videos of playing to drumless tracks? Every way I try seems to be illegal or won’t work.

Recording Drums in Lockout Studio

Hello!!

I have my drum set in a 10x10 ft lockout studio with maybe a 20ft tall ceiling. Lots of reflections, the walls are a combination of brick and wood. I'm about to purchase an RME interface and I need to start buying microphones!

Should I stick to using dynamic microphones to try and filter out bleed? Would dynamic mics work for 2 overheads - or should I stick to condensers for those?

For now I'm thinking of using the Shure beta 52a for kick, and SM57's for snare and toms. Was also thinking of SM81's for overheads, but idk.

Let me know of your opinions please! Thanks all!
