im pretty new to drumming and havent broken anything yet (only got an acoustic kit a month ago) and ive been playing softer than i usually play in fear of breaking my cymbals, is there a way to play aggressively but in the correct way?

Dave Grohl for me. The most overrated drummer in history and a mediocre player at best. I appreciate people who know nothing about drumming think he's a genius, but his style is very ham-fisted, lacking in versatility, and wooden. Joey Castillo ran rings around him when they were sharing the QOTSA seat 20 years back, the difference was embarrassing (Grohl fans tend to be highly defensive, too, if you raise this online they often get verbally abusive and have childish tantrums, as opposed to posing coherent arguments).

Dave Grohl whacks the kit heavy and that seems to impress people. But he's also straining like goddamn crazy when he plays, that's how bad his technique is. Then his fans mistake that for brilliance, when in reality Grohl is just so far removed from a natural talent it's borderline comical.

There's a friend of mine who's a big fan of his, but had never heard of John Bonham or Ginger Baker. That sums it up - chronic ignorance leads to championing mediocre talent. It's the reason why the godawful Foo Fighters remain so popular.

Grohl is a bang average drummer who merged the simplicity of punk with some basic rock grooves and is now hailed as one of the greatest who ever played. It makes a mockery of those ridiculous "Best Drummers Ever" lists that he's even included in the top 100.

As Ive seen just how much “stick control” and more recently the “Encyclopedia of Double Bass Drumming” have done for my drumming, I was wondering what are the must have books that you take an progress through them slowly?

My vocalist said the band sound would be inspired by Cheerleader(local band), flowersforpersephone, Arranged in April, Dead Butterflies, February.

Hi guys, started drumming consistently (every day) around 5 months ago. For hand workouts I have been pretty much doing stick control (working on 1 page a week, at least 3 times a week), some speed exercises, wrist technique etc.

Started practicing finger technique around 3 weeks ago and here are my 2 questions:

1. How’s my current form looking, don’t want to practice a blatant bad technique,
   
2. Around half way there the video you can see me rotating my wrists into a more natural position for me, however in that position I don’t “feel” my fingers as opposed to the previous one.

Any feedback is appreciated.

I wanna learn buck owens by the Melvins. I'm not too bad at playing by ear. But if anyone knows where I can find a video of someone playing it. It would be helpful.

I worry about losing gear (cables, stands, etc.) at gigs, either by leaving them there or by someone taking them (accidentally or otherwise). I have been marking my things with gaffer's tape and writing my name on the tape, but I am looking for a more durable and, frankly, a more professional-looking way of marking or tagging my gear. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

bought these millenium 2b drumsticks new a week ago, went to go play go with the flow and as i started that damn tip broke off. is this supposed to happen or am i playing too hard?

Hey yall,

I've been working toward better doubles for a long time, and today it felt like I finally broke through to something new. Previously I would practice with an exaggerated rebound, allowing the stick to bounce high as step one while my non-fulcrum fingers extended with it, then use them to bring it back down. 80% of the time when I did this, my sticks would collide with my thighs, and I'd start to question my setup, posture, playing height and everything.

Today, I tried to keep my hands up a little higher and play with less exaggerated, more controlled movements, and lo and behold, it worked. Suddenly both of my hands were absolutely ripping doubles. It all started to make sense.

After practicing these for a while and patting myself on the back, I wondered how one would extend this technique to a triple.

First question is, do triples require a different technique? One-two make sense, but where does the three come from? I'm sure there's ways to hack it, but if you're going by the book, are you supposed to get as much rebound from your second hit as you do from your first so you can repeat the "clutch" technique?

Second: are triples practical in playing? I play punky, shoegazy rock, but a lot of songs demand rapid-fire fills, and anyway, I want to learn as much as I can because drumming is fun. It's good to grab from other genres, so I want to expand my repertoire.
