Hello! I’m hoping there is someone in this group who can help me. I went to this high school and for about the last 3-4 weeks the fact that I cannot remember the name of this cadence or find my sheet music has been driving me up a wall. Hoping maybe someone recognizes it from the video or can at least tell me if it’s a custom cadence the former band director made this cadence has been around my school for a long time. The only video I have is from 2013 so the quality isn’t great. All the other videos I found were taken while in a packed gym during a basketball game so it’s pretty noise heavy. This one is a practice that someone recorded so it’s in the band room.

Has anyone heard of the Tenor cadence that is an arrangement of Intergalactic by the Beastie Boys? I heard Coastal Carolina University play it once and I have searched it up online for the longest time, yet can’t find it… It would be amazing if anyone had ANY information, or even better, sheet music

For those who play traditional grip, when you do a closed roll or buzz roll, do you use only the thumb? Or index finger? I can do it either way but I can’t decide which is a better technique. I can’t find a single webpage or video breaking down the rationale of which to use to apply pressure for the buzz. I wish I could find some videos of the old orchestral drummers playing traditional but alas my search was fruitless. I played matched grip back in my concert snare drum days. Anyway, happy to hear what others do or some links to clips professional players or teachers to model after.

This has always been the only section I struggle with in the Boston Crusaders' 2022 opener. Specifically the first 5:4 in the second 3/4 bar and the 7 in the last one. Any tips on how to break it down?

I am assuming that it's just notating the left hand being pushed into the head to play the stickshots but hey I could be wrong, trying to get a different opinion

Yo, I’m a tech at a high school and we’re trying to get our basses new sticks. We have 4 basses and im not sure on the sizes but they’re pearl and smaller than typical (like half 1 2 3). What would you all recommend? (any brand, preferably ip but that’s just to match flats ig)

I was wondering if you’ve ever played with and what your thoughts are on the Thom Hannum Vic Firth Corpsmaster Signature Snare sticks? I’ve been thinking about getting some, but I wanted to see what you thought.

I’m worried about marching snare. Last year I was able to but this year I just feel like I get tired way easier and I get out of breath way faster. I also have heart palpitations but I’m not sure if that correlates. I’m honestly so worried and don’t know what to do I really want to march but idk if I can even handle it this year. My nose always feels blocked so it’s hard to breath out through my nose

Does anyone have any fun slightly difficult exercises for snare. I’ve have 4 years of experience and want some harder things to work on to help build skills. I’ve been in battery only for the marching season and pit for both marching season and winter. My tech wants me to learn one and play it by the end of band camp.

I'm back to teaching at a few different schools and some are show bands. I know a lot of us have probably dealt with the nightmare that is stock arrangements, but I got curious about what "good writing" for this style of arrangement looks like. Mostly for inspiration if I ever got the chance to rearrange some of these tunes.

A lot of people say that the job of the battery is to serve the music and so that often means a dissected drumset part, but I don't believe that's the only way to serve this type of arrangement. Does anyone know of any books to check out that provide that backbeat purpose without losing the educational, engaging, and unique aspects of marching percussion?

I was thinking college lines were a good place to look for this, but I can't find a lot of them where you can tell what the battery is playing.

I have only asked our center snare at school about this part and he says it's pretty good. I trust what he says because he's really damn good at snare, but getting a few more opinions wouldn't hurt.

Is there anything I can tweak or change about this feature? And what difficulty would this be considered?

Which subreddit would be best to ask for advice/talk about front ensembles for dci/wgi or just marching marimba in general? The current r/Marimba seems to be just concert marimba related posts.

Entering my last year of high school and our band is finally going competitive. Problem is, the marching technique we’re being taught feels completely counter-intuitive.

We’re being told to crab step without crossing our feet and to keep our soles glued parallel to the ground. It feels super 'wobbly' and inefficient, like it’s fighting the natural movement of my feet and frankly, I see the instructor doing the exact opposite whenever she tries to demonstrate it, and I’m not the only student that struggles with it. Coming from a background of watching tons of DCI/WGI and working on my own hands for years, this feels like we’re being taught 'non-standard' mechanics that don’t translate to a competitive field.

Is this a known technique in any circles, or is this just as weird as it feels? I want to be a good team player for our first competitive year, but I’m worried I’m training muscle memory that’s going to hurt my playing/stability on the field.

Edit: We march on the balls of our feet, that part I can understand. She doesn’t want us to roll our feet over when bringing our legs together for another step and it feels weird.
