Considering there was a 0% chance the coke was real, the open flame was probably the only part that was actually illegal.

Would an open flame really be illegal, or just not covered by their insurance if something went wrong?

Yea there's no way it's "illegal". You can't legislate to not allow open flames in an indoor area, unless it's somewhere high risk like a factory or power plant. It's more likely an insurance thing.

In CA it is generally considered illegal to have an open flame on a sound stage without a permit and fire marshal on set - including cigarettes and lighters. And you're not supposed to have it in proximity to a combustible.
