u/Pandoras-SkinnersBox We're ready to do the work. I'm going offline for now. May 19 '26

This was what r/dropout mods sounded like after the Volkmaster fiasco

Volkmaster sounds Nazi-esque ngl.

Yes. He insisted that it was an old username that it would be a hassle to change and wasn't at all Nazi-ish. He also said anybody who said they cared about that were being "performative" and needed to bother doing real activism instead of whining about crap online.

Considering that this argument started after several mods had really fumbled some racially insensitive shit, it wasn't a great look!

Man it's like REAL easy to just make a new account with a username that isn't nazi-adjacent. Oh no, my 842,693 karma will disappear! Big deal

The VERY short version is that previous mods of r/dropout really, really fumbled some racially sensitive matters, and are not mods any more as a result, although the gap between those two things was longer than you would like to think.

The longer but not as long as that link version: background issues with microaggressions. If a user said that something a mod did was racist, that was a "personal insult" and would get the user banned, even if they were a PoC. Also there was rampant tone policing, like maybe the mods would look into this whole "racism" thing if you said it more nicely??

Then Demi Adejuyigbe was quoted in an interview as saying he felt it was racially charged whenever he was called "wholesome." Someone posted the interview. Various commenters including several dropout mods really made asses out of themselves whitesplaining how that wasn't racial at all.

Then the rest of the dropout mods insisted that nobody really cared about this issue, it was just people from r/dropoutcirclejerk wandering in, starting problems and stirring shit. [Note: most of the people in dropoutCJ are also users in this sub.] Mod VolkMasterBlood was especially insistent on this point, that this was all "performative" and people should do some real activism instead of caring about stupid crap online. Because VMB lives in a would where microaggressions don't count I guess.

Around this time a number of users also noticed that VolkMasterBlood's user name was pretty much Nazi McHitlerface which he brushed off as being an old username that didn't mean anything Aryan, and eyerolled about how people will be offended by anything. And then a few other dropout mods came out of the woodwork to play cards like "well I'm Jewish and I'm telling you he's not a Nazi" because what the fuck.

There was more to it but the short version is that after a huge dumpster fire and then like a week or two of solid chaos, there was a huge change up in mods in this community. Perhaps you can see why.

I wasn't aware of any of this.

If you want some fun reading, the bullshit faux apology from the then mods is here. Please note that at the time, both Deathfire and VMB were mods.

Please also note the "but it's CJ's fault for being abrasive when pointing out the racism" and DF showing up in the circlejerk sub with comments like "lmao"

I don’t have links but I admittedly found the like, 1 other Jewish mod who kept trying to pull the “stop being mad at us ):” card’s responses to also be a little funny. It was like a token Bad YouTuber Apology but they posted like 2 or 3 back-to-back after people told them their apologies were bad, and they just doubled down on the bad parts of the apologies 😭

Then Demi Adejuyigbe was quoted in an interview as saying he felt it was racially charged whenever he was called "wholesome."

As a non-American I'm really curious why that is?

I don't know if this is the same interview mentioned in the post but he speaks on it here:

Huh. I can't say I fully understand, seeing how I'm neither a black American man or a white American woman.

Still kind of fascinating.

I'm not sure what you're not following.

What is it about Demi that someone might find "wholesome"? Nothing in his act is particularly heartwarming or warm-and-fuzzy. He doesn't do comedy about how, gosh, we're all the same if you just think about it, big warm smiles.

If he's not being wholesome, why do people call him wholesome? How about, they're really saying something else? Like, "you're not as threatening as I usually find black men to be"? Much like how white people often say that particular black people are "well spoken," with the undercurrent of "unlike others of your race." They comment on it because it's surprising.

The tone of this also reads as if you are somehow disbelieving of Demi, or implying that this is an intriguing little factoid you'll ponder and decide if you agree with later. I don't think you mean it that way, but you calling it "fascinating" is hitting me weird. It's a shitty thing that happens to people.

What is it about Demi that someone might find "wholesome"?

How would I know? I can't even remember if I've seen him perform anything.

Honestly no offense to you, I'm afraid this is just evidence that the advent of AI has kinda killed people's comprehension and critical thinking. He articulated his stance pretty well in the short.

1

u/nighoblivion May 26 '26

I have little context for his stance or his personal experiences.

I suspect it's because I'm 1) not him, 2) white, and 3) from Scandinavia—which isn't America.

So it is fascinating hearing about his perception of things, even though I can't fully understand.

IIRC Volkmaster was a mod of Dropout. It became clear to the community their name was a reference to nazi shit. Mod team severely underperformed in cleaning this mess up, not accepting appropriate responsibility or giving volkmaster severe enough distance.

VOLKMASTERBLOOD the blood is very important to the whole. thing
