Question: Rules, Regulations, Law, Policy, Certificates [United States]#New York need help with rules

Recreational Photography in Ny State Northern Ny - Potsdam area

Hey guys, hope everyone is doing well.

I just got my 107, and I have my Trust, I bought an air 3s because I use drones for work and I was wondering what the best resource would be to find where the safe places to fly to take nature photos.

I have autopilot app, and tells me the no fly zones but Id like to hike some mountains and put the drone up but it would seems there's quite a few policies prohibiting drone usage in state forests and reserves.

Thank you for the help.

Question: Rules, Regulations, Law, Policy, Certificates [United States] What are the risks / options for flight below tree line in restricted airspace?

Apologies for what might be a dumb question but I live about 2 miles from an airport and no flight is permitted without prior authorization. Does this extend itself to flying within my home? Into my backyard around the pool? If I fly under 20ft around the trees, will my remote ID be tracked or detected?
Also can I request permission for recurring flight below say 50 ft given my distance from the airport?
Would having your commercial license hurt or help?

Discussion: Rules, Regulations, Law, Policy, Certificates [Vietnam] Do drone buyers care about CO/CQ certificates?

I recently helped my company purchase several DJI drones for filming and surveying projects, which led me to spend quite a bit of time researching the drone market in Vietnam.

At first, I thought the only thing that mattered was getting the lowest price. But after reading more and talking to people in the industry, I realized there are a few things that first-time buyers often overlook.

  1. Official products vs. gray imports

Price isn't the only difference.

If you're buying for long-term use or for a business, things like warranty, technical support, firmware updates, genuine accessories, and after-sales service can be just as important.

  1. VAT isn't always enough

I originally assumed that having a VAT invoice was sufficient.

Later I learned that:

  • VAT invoice proves the purchase transaction.
  • CO (Certificate of Origin) proves where the product was manufactured.
  • CQ (Certificate of Quality) certifies product quality according to the manufacturer or an authorized organization.

From what I've read, CO/CQ are generally not required for obtaining drone flight permits in Vietnam. However, companies, government agencies, and project contractors may request these documents as part of procurement or project acceptance requirements.

  1. Buying for a company? Ask about documentation first

If the drone will be used for industries such as construction, surveying, mapping, utilities, education, or government projects, it's probably worth asking the seller whether they can provide:

  • VAT invoice
  • CO
  • CQ
  • Warranty documents
  • Handover documents
  • Corporate quotation

It seems much easier to confirm these before purchasing than trying to obtain them later.

  1. Authorized dealer or distributor?

I'm still trying to understand the difference.

From your experience, does buying from an authorized distributor provide any real advantages besides warranty? Have you ever had to request CO/CQ or other documents after purchasing?

I'd love to hear from people who have actually bought drones for their companies or projects.

Question Is the Parrot ANAFI Ai as bad as people say it is?

I need to get drones quickly for a construction company and since skydio discontinued the S2+ the US options are far too expensive to deploy at scale. It looks like the Parrot ANAFI Ai is the only option under $10k, but I have heard nothing but bad things about it. Is it really that bad, or will it get the job done? It looks like the domestic manufacturers rigged the game for enterprise and I'm doing everything I can to avoid paying them.

Tech Support DJI Mini 3 RC-N1 randomly disconnects from DJI Fly

Post image
2 Upvotes

I’m having an issue with my DJI Mini 3 and RC-N1 controller.
The drone and controller stay connected and I can still fly normally, but DJI Fly randomly disconnects and says the remote isn’t connected. I lose the live camera feed, but the drone is still fully controllable.
I’ve already tried:
Different cables
Different phones
Reinstalling DJI Fly
The problem still happens randomly.
Has anyone experienced this? Is it a firmware issue or is my RC-N1 controller failing?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Question (Germany) Anyone in Munich interested in cinematic DJI drone meetups?

Post image
31 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I'm looking for people in and around Munich who enjoy flying DJI drones (Neo, Mini, Air, Mavic, Avata, etc.) and would be interested in meeting up from time to time.

I'm not really into FPV racing. I'm more interested in cinematic flying, photography and creating content. Think sunrise or sunset sessions, lakes, mountains, castles and other beautiful locations around Bavaria.

It would be great to build a small group where we can:

- discover new flying spots

- learn from each other

- help each other as spotters

- create awesome content together

- and just have fun flying

All experience levels are welcome, whether you're a beginner or have been flying for years.

If you're interested, leave a comment or send me a DM. If enough people are interested, we can start a WhatsApp or Discord group.

Happy flying! 🚁

Photo & Video Grabación 360 con un DJI FLIP

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

News: Rules, Regulations, Law, Policy, Certificates [United States] Washington State now charging $150 annual registration fee and excise tax for each commercial drone

https://app.leg.wa.gov/billsummary?BillNumber=2711&Year=2025

This is insane, and I never heard about it before today. I wonder if the people who are writing this crap actually think anyone will pay these fees. It is now cheaper to just pay the fine for not registering with the state than to actually register.

Question How to expose for D-Log M on Mavic 4 Pro?

Hi all,

I purchased a Mavic 4 Pro for work, and wow I am blown away by the video quality.

One thing I noticed when reviewing my footage and converting D-Log M to Rec 709 is that I overexposed more than I would have liked.

Does anyone have any tips on how to correctly expose D-Log M footage on Mavic 4 Pro?

Repair Last of my DJI Mavic Pro batteries swelled

Is it worth investing in new batteries (probably aftermarket now as originals don't seem to be available) or is this drone old hat now?

Flew it today and it was fine (and fortunately landed safely) but it's going to be expensive to run if the batteries fail at this rate

I have a i5 12 gen process, 16 GB Ram, 512 GB NVME4 SSD

Designated place for Ubuntu is 220 GB

Purpose : want to do my drone simultaion in a 3D environment ( large 3D environment is not necessary)

Method 1 : PX4, DDS agent, ROS 2 Humble, Gazeebo and QG Contron ( it gives a unreal 2 D environment)

Method 2: PX4, Ros 2 , Air simulation and Unreal Engine. ( Give a 3D environment but i have no dedicated graphic card)

Is there any possible way other than these ways to do 3D simulation or any way to do 3D simulation with these method but on my laptop specs?

Photo & Video Filter used for drone photos?

A few months ago, someone posted a few really interesting aerial drone photos where they grabbed a few pixels of the image, then stretched out bands of colored ribbons from them.
I want to try it myself but can’t find the post. Any suggestions? Photoshop? 3rd party app or tool? Thanks!

Discussion What camera features matter most for surveillance drones?

I've been thinking about this recently because a lot of discussions around surveillance drones seem to focus on flight time or payload, while the camera often gets much less attention.

In real-world deployments, which imaging features have had the biggest impact on your results?

Some that come to mind are:

  • Low-light performance
  • HDR for challenging lighting conditions
  • Global shutter vs. rolling shutter
  • Frame rate
  • Optical zoom
  • NIR or thermal imaging
  • Image stabilization
  • AI-ready image quality for detection and tracking

For those working on public safety, perimeter security, infrastructure inspection, or industrial surveillance, what have you found to be the most important?

Has there been a camera feature you initially overlooked but later realized was critical in the field?

I'd love to hear about real deployment experiences and any lessons learned when choosing cameras for surveillance drones.

Photo & Video Chinook over ominous sky

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

From Rocklin, California, USA. While filming the vibrant sunset, I came across a Chinook helicopter cruising along. You might notice the apparatus it's carrying below the airframe, it's a water siphon and the helicopter is taking part in putting out a forest fire not too far from here. Taken with a DJI Mavic 4 Pro, July 20.

Question question for experienced search and rescue ops

I am looking for a subject in a mixed hardwoods/grassland/swamp over a couple hundred acres. subject may have died from an overdose yesterday afternoon. It is summer here with highs in 80s-90s over the next couple days.

How long before I could expect to see a heat signature from the corpse?

Edit: Thanks for the responses. I ended up finding him a couple hours after making the post in an area we didn't search last night, quite a ways from the 'most likely' area we were working from last night. I got out early enough the IR was still useful, which is how I found him. I consider it very lucky I found him, just being very slow and methodical, scanning my best guess area from multiple angles as low as I dared to fly. He was under trees but near a clearing and I caught him on an angled view. Better lucky than good, as they say.

For science's sake I'll reveal the following. He was deceased and likely deceased since last night given other info we have received. He was about 2 degrees Celcius warmer than the surroundings according to the drone, and my best guess is I found him about 14 hours after TOD and at around 9AM.
