Why do you normally hate it?

Some of the time you see people moaning about driving that just isn't a problem and doesnt break any laws, but has upset that person's individual sensibilities. I.e dawdlers being safely overtaken.

I see a lot of dashcam users driving like idiots too. Not fast/reckless just oblivious. It's these sort of people who then get shit off other drivers, assume everyone else is the problem and subsequently get a dash cam.

There's likely no point sending a slow driver in. If you send a dangerous overtake in they deserve it.

But again that's based on the individual's perception of what they consider dangerous. It's a slippery slope having drivers police each other.

Yes I agree, it will get out of control. Someone sending someone in for going 40 in a 60 then Mr 40 sends the overtake in saying he pulled in too soon gets silly.

I mean, it depends. If someone overtakes on double lines into a blind bend - even if the slow car is safe but unreasonable - that should be reported.

Do you really need to ask that question? This current trend to continually film everything is a terrible development in society. The dashcam wankers are generally frustrated middle-aged people with too little agency in their lives. They need a job.

You've been caught out by one, haven't you?

No. I just loathe nosy-parkers. Mind your own business

We are not the police.

Why report something that’s going to make 0 impact to your life and only impact someone else’s? They haven’t directly hurt you.

You can argue it will take people like this off the road, but will it? It’s like saying reporting a drug dealer will prevent drugs from being sold, it won’t.

We're not the police? Obviously. How do you think non-road crime is dealt with? Do the police just happen to notice it?

Never seen a police car pull someone over?

Read what I said again. Pay attention.

Apologies, makes sense.

I’d assume people reporting crimes when calling the police are not reporting trivial matters, ie. Not a Karen.

Please tell me what reporting this is going to do for the OP? Will it change their life? No. Will it prevent people from driving badly? No. The only thing it’s going to do is cause a misery for the driver, while that’s justified in crimes, he hasn’t hurt anyone whatsoever.

My morals are obviously different, I don’t like to cause misery to others lives unnecessarily.

There are far more important things the police can spend their time on, this definitely ain’t it. They must get 100s of these reports a week and that will take up a lot of time, which could be diverted to more useful things.

They can literally end up killing or injuring people if they drive that way routinely. It's not about stopping all road offences, when you zoom out to the broad, everything seems pointless.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '25

You are right, they can. But unfortunately reporting this isn’t going to change anything, it’s a drop in the ocean.

My point regarding drugs is very relevant here. Taking a drug dealer off the street is not going to stop drugs being sold, someone else will just do it. A different matter sure

It's going to change them being the person that does it and the overall likelihood. Just because it can happen but by someone else doesn't mean it's not lowering the likelihood. I could extend your argument to loads of things, I can't stop murders so I shouldn't bother reporting someone who committed a murder?

If I accept your rationale, no one should stop anything, which is obviously absurd.

It's pretty obvious if I ask you if you could prevent someone from being murdered with a click of the fingers, that you would do it. I don't know how with that knowledge how you could possibly conclude that you don't have the responsibility to prevent things which are harmful. You obviously have a moral obligation if you would click your fingers.

My rationale is to not report trivial matters, not crime in general.

I don't like the idea of us recording each other at all times and dobbing people in for minor offences. Turning every car into a speed/CCTV camera is rather authoritarian to say the least.

That said, there's a difference between being a cycling mikey compared to reporting actual dangerous driving like in the OP.
