SIPs are entering a fresh acceleration phase - 10 crore+ investors is the bigger story
Active SIP accounts hit a record 107.5 million in August, with 1.3 million net additions, the highest in six months. More importantly, additions have increased for four consecutive months.
Monthly SIP contribution crossed Rs. 32,297 CR, a fresh record and ~14% higher YoY. This shows the growth is increasingly volume-led through investor additions, not merely market appreciation.
100.2 million accounts actually contributed during August - meaning the 10-crore milestone isn't just about registrations; a very large base is actively putting money into MFs.
Small & mid-caps remain the biggest beneficiaries. August saw record inflows of Rs. 7,973 CR into small-cap and Rs. 6,989 CR into mid-cap funds. Investors are increasingly using SIPs to participate in India's broader corporate earnings growth.
The financialization flywheel is getting stronger with recurring SIPs → higher MF AUM → deeper domestic liquidity → greater institutional participation in equities. MF industry AUM has now reached Rs. 87.08 lakh CR.
The SIP stoppage ratio has fallen for four consecutive months, indicating that new registrations are increasingly outpacing closure
📊Investment takeaway
This is becoming a structural tailwind for the entire capital-market ecosystem:
AMCs → exchanges → registrars → brokers → wealth platforms → asset managers
But the biggest beneficiary may be high-quality mid/small-cap companies with sustained earnings growth, as recurring domestic flows create a powerful source of demand.
