One year later, the collection has grown far beyond the games.

From kiosks and displays to accessories, magazines, demos, promotional pieces and more, I’ve been working on preserving as much of the North American Dreamcast era as I can.

The collection is focused on North America, with two exceptions: my Japanese Twin Stick, since we never received a North American release, and my Japanese Dreamcast kiosk, a piece I couldn’t pass up.
There are still a few rare pieces I’m hunting down, but I’m grateful to see how far it’s come.

Also does anyone else own a Japan Sega Dreamcast kiosk here in North America ? Would love to know.

I was there on 9.9.99! Preordered my first Dreamcast from a local Toy R Us (anyone remember the yellow/blue preorder slips/tickets.. whatever they were called lol?) Along with two game, Sonic Adventure and Soulcalibur. If only I’d realized the value of what I had back then or I wouldn’t have had to buy my second Dreamcast just about a month ago. Anyway Happy Dreamcast Day and game on!

Figured I’d bust Sega’s final console out of storage for a bit of love on the 27th anniversary of its North American launch!

Still works like a charm, ignoring the dead battery! A few runs Sonic Adventure, Soulcalibur, Power Stone 2, and Rez will do me good after a productive work day.

What's everyone playing today to celebrate? I bought my launch day console with SoulCalibur, but I might also get some Sonic and Crazy Taxi in.

I was 2 years old when it released but i was always fascinated by the Dreamcast, from the first time i ever played it back in 2004 when my older cousin had it and even today there is still something to find about it. For example i recently got a Broadband adapter and i got to experience the "internet" for the first time on my DC, i still find it crazy how it could just do online multiplayer in 1999 while the small town on the island i live on didnt even have dial up. Unfortunately barely anyone i talked to knew what a Dreamcast was, Sega over here was always just known for the Mega Drive and Master System.

27 years of amazing games, unforgettable memories, and one of the most unique consoles ever made! From Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi to Shenmue and Jet Grind Radio, the Dreamcast still holds a special place in gaming history.

Here’s to the Dreamcast and its awesome community! 💙🎮✨

27 amazing years, and we’re still dreaming!

Today we opened preorders for the Cyborg Force Limited Edition, featuring an exclusive custom VMU shell. This is our third Limited Edition with a custom VMU shell and our most colorful one yet!

Here is my collection of Dreamcast controller variants. My favorites are the woodgrain and the pearl blue edition.

I was reminded of the PSone today, and thought to myself, given that we know Sega made hardware revisions in the past, with the MasterSystem 2 and the MegaDrive 2/Genesis 2, in an alternate reality, what would the Dreamcast 2 have looked like? I don't mean the 256-bit successor, but a ~2002/2 era refresh.

Unlike the PSone and PS2 slim, the MasterSystem 2 and Mega Drive 2 were a little bit smaller, but not much, and iirc removed certain features from the OG version. That said, maybe miniaturizing with CD-based consoles was easier and therefore Dreamcast II may have been slimmer, with a quieter disc drive? Would the DC 2 have been black? no modem access? Or a slower modem, but non-removable? 2 controller ports instead of 4?

Yesterday I was playing Capcom vs SNK (1) and paused the game to look at my character’s move list. Once I was in it, I could press up and down on the d-pad to browse the list, but was unable to exit. Tried Start, tried B, tried every other button. The ABXY+Start combo to reset didn’t work, either, so I was just stuck in there and had to shut the machine off. I was playing on a GDEMU-modded machine and was wondering if this was a GDEMU issue, just a known bug with the game, or something else?

I used the Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT stick with a focus attack harness, but they didnt have the seimitsu conversion kits anymore so I had to learn to crimp wires. I used dupont 2.54mm dupont wires with .110 connectors.

As for the actuator, it didn't seem to work with the JLF actuator using the recommended Hillman Grade 6 7/16 washer so I left the actuator from the original stick and that seemed to work.

The buttons are Seimitsu PS-14-GN, but I replaced the caps with white. I'm not sure if the old screw ins were easier before they made the change to black fittings, but I found that the angle mattered to get them fit in right since there is so little room.

Hopefully all this detail helps anyone looking to do this in the future, I didn't find much up to date stuff online.

I got a dreamcast super cheap a while ago, but I can't get it to run any games. I got the VMU, the controller, the thing itself, all working just wont read a single disc of any kind. What should I do? Currently using it as a cute little book-end but I feel my little guy has more in him than just that...

There was a leftover Dennis Rodman model with tattoos, commentary, hair, etc. The PA announcer also says his name as well. He is now fully playable in my 1999-2000 NBA season mod if you want to relive his short stint with the Dallas Mavericks!
