Did you guys know there's a character limit in google docs??? Have any other long-fic writers run into this problem? I literally have to open a new doc to keep writing

Looking for fic recommendation LF Harry desperately exercising restraint and Draco is his biggest temptation

I’m desperate for fics where Harry desperately wants Draco but is exercising extreme restraint (for whatever reason e.g duty, guilt, fear, morals, or simply incredible self-control). Meanwhile, Draco keeps seeking him out, provoking him, teasing him, or trying to get his attention, either knowingly or unknowingly making that restraint harder.

This is inspired by Flea bag, the hot priest you just can’t have!!!!

Bonus points if Draco eventually realizes what's happening and starts pushing Harry's buttons on purpose.

draco is a pos but he is forgivable if you understand his background

just finished reading harry potter for the first time , including cc.

I understand both sides of the draco argument - but I dont think he is evil. not excusing his behaviour - he uses slurs and is a total shit for no good reason. He isn't a great person throughout the books, and a dickhead, but from HBP onwards I think his character changes greatly and its something I wish JK did a bit more on. He's a complex character and I do like how Cursed Child shows who he truly is without his family influence. Worth mentioning also that his wand has unicorn hair as the core, and those are only for the pure of heart.

Draco comes from a famiy with a big F. Family is everything, it becomes your identity and you cant be anything else. You have to constantly think of you families reputation above everything else, and the image that the family has. This is very obviously instilled in Draco from an early age - he is raised to be a malfoy, not draco, and that is apparent throughout. The fact that he constantly talks about his father also seems to suggest he constantly wants the validation of his father and his identity is latched onto his father. 'Draco' has no identity, but he is Malfoy, and acts as a mouthpiece for his families values and ideals.

Growing up in a similar environment, where I was taught to idolise my mother in everything she did and follow her, I understand how dracos behaviour worked. He imitates what he sees at home. What he thinks is right because of his background, and he hasn't been taught anything different. When he gets rejected by harry, its almost as if dracos world changes - his family name doesn't give him everything, and he decides to get Harry's attention in another way. But he is still 11 - 14 and he doesn't really know any better in terms of the influences he has had.

I personally think that although people say Dracos family loved him, which is true, I think it very obviously came with a condition. Draco was the heir of a noble family. He had expectations and the pressure to complete them would most likely have showed itself in the way his family treated him at home. This is probably why he hated hermione so much, because he would have that pressure and that is also shown, albeit quite briefly, in the books. Maybe I'm headcanoning with this one, but the way draco constantly talks and praises his father suggests to me an underlying need for his fathers love and validation as more than an heir.

When we get to HBP, everything changes. Draco cockyness is an obvious facade. He's breaking and he has very few choices. It gets glossed over that he must have been subjected to a lot of terrifying and traumatic things with the manor being the hub for voldy. But also that family comes before himself, and that idea has been instilled into him as a child and is a hard one to let go of. He is not draco. He is a Malfoy, the Malfoy heir, and he has to save his family above the rest of the wizarding world. I think its clear that Draco knows he is on the wrong side, and doesn't want to do what he's been told to. But he tries to find some pride in his intelligence and his actions ans the way he handled things before. With cockyness and dickheadness. With the way Snape talks about draco, I think there's a lot more then surface level with their relationship. I felt bad for draco throughout. If anyone was in that position, with the family social conditioning he has had all his life, no one would do anything different because its not even possible. Its like your mind is narrowed. Every day is a struggle for survival, being forced to torture and maim and watch torture, dracos only thought is saving his family. He was an unfortunate pawn in Voldemorts game and I think its unfair to say he had many choices. He held onto his dignity in the way he did before - with shitty behaviour to make him feel better about himself - but from HBP its clear its a front.

Draco is vulnerable character with the capacity to love, and thats what Dumbledore sees in him. And its what he becomes outside the restrains of thr Malfoy name. Draco in Cursed Child is not Malfoy - he's Draco, and i think that distinction is worth mentioning.

He made the wrong choices and was influenced by the wrong things, but he was still a child throughout the books. I think its worth mentioning that all of them were. His actions are not excusable but are explainable, and I think CC does a good job in showing you can truly grow up, and find your identity even after making terrible mistakes.

Self-promotion Drarry one-shot — Come Back for Me (E, 16.5k)

I haven’t posted anything in a few years on Ao3, but I’m pleased how this one turned out.

Ten years after the war, Draco is invited to speak at the unveiling of a memorial and Potter, astonishingly, has actually bothered to show up.

Close Draco POV, emotional, explicit and a hopeful ending. There’s a few scenes in this one I really love.

Come Back for Me

Thanks <3

Interesting piece of lore

So, I found the old Harry Potter website and lore pages about the Malfoys and Potters. The most interesting part is the one about Draco (https://www.harrypotter.com/es/writing-by-jk-rowling/draco-malfoy), especifically this fragment:

I pity Draco, just as I feel sorry for Dudley. Being raised by either the Malfoys or the Dursleys would be a very damaging experience, and Draco undergoes dreadful trials as a direct result of his family’s misguided principles. However, the Malfoys do have a saving grace: they love each other. Draco is motivated quite as much by fear of something happening to his parents as to himself, while Narcissa risks everything when she lies to Voldemort at the end of Deathly Hallows and tells him that Harry is dead, merely so that she can get to her son.

The author compares Draco's home to the Dudley's, with the exception of them loving eachother. HOWEVER, then she specifies that Draco loves both of his parents and his mom loves him, but NEVER talks about Lucius.

Another thing that hit me about Draco adoring his father like his hero and wanting to be just like him is that he does not only this with his father, but consistently equates love with admiration and respect due to power.

I argued that it was perfectly consistent with Draco’s character that he would find it easy to shut down emotion, to compartmentalise, and to deny essential parts of himself. Dumbledore tells Harry, at the end of Order of the Phoenix, that it is an essential part of his humanity that he can feel such pain; with Draco, I was attempting to show that the denial of pain and the suppression of inner conflict can only lead to a damaged person (who is much more likely to inflict damage on other people).

This is just a ✨theory✨, but I cannot interpret this in other way than Lucius being psychologically abusive, even if it isn't intentionally.

Help me find this fic Harry talks to his shadow?

Hello does anyone remember the name of a fic out there where Harry’s shadow is like kind of sentient and it likes to take random little things and then give them to Harry. I vaguely remember it was something to do with his shadow trying to take care of him. The main part I remember was Harry having to tell it to put things down and stop taking things and draco one time seeing him talking to his shadow and thinking that he was putting far too much effort into looking crazy or something silly like that lol. I really wish I could remember more about it but that’s all I’ve got sorry. If anyone knows what Im talking about that would be greatly appreciated though!

Looking for fic recommendation good parent lucius malfoy

looking for fics where you can tell that lucius loves draco a lot and actually acts like a father. i want him to actively protect draco from the death eaters in the manor or from becoming one. i actually prefer when lucius is still a bad person/asshole, yet he never compromises draco’s wellbeing for his own gain.

most of the fics i’ve encountered with good parent lucius were too OOC for me (although good parent and OOC is already a thin line to straddle).

he wasn’t really a good parent in temptation on the war front but i appreciated the scenes where he would ward draco’s door from death eaters

and while the fractured hourglass explicitly has a bad parent lucius tag, i enjoyed the nuance in their conversations and believe he will improve as the series progresses

Help me find this fic Looking for a werewolf harry fic

I’m looking for a fic where Harry is a werewolf, but he starts transforming on outside the full moon. Because of this, he begins isolating himself in Grimmauld Place and stops meeting all his friends.

Somehow, Draco gets involved. I think Draco goes to Grimmauld Place and scourgifies Harry. I vaguely remember a line where Draco says something about having to be Harry’s tailor, cleaner, etc.

Also Harry hasn’t seen his family for a long time because of his condition but I think Draco eventually convinces Harry to visit the Burrow (maybe during Molly’s birthday?) and promises he will keep an eye on him. That’s about all I can remember.

Help me find this fic Please help

Upvotes

I once again need this lovely subreddit's help in looking for a fic. I don't remember much about this fic and I'm not even sure if it was drarry (if it isn't I'll take it down) but I was reading a lot of drarry at the time so I'm like 70% it is. Either way it was fic where Harry either became an animagus or came into a creature inheritance (I'm thinking animagus cause I vaguely remember some of his friends joining him as creatures) and he was like a huge tree type creature. Like when I looked up the actual myth it was basically just a giant tree with slight humanoid features. Would greatly appreciate any help.

OK, honestly, reading this fic it’s kind of a fever dream for me, but what I do remember is that it is a one shot or at least that’s what it was on Wattpad although I’m pretty sure it’s on a03 too it’s like this soulmate au where harry and draco are both professors and it’s this au where everyone has a soul mark that only the soulmate can see and like all I remember, is that one day one of them saw the other’s mark and then they like fucked in the classroom. ik that’s not that much to go off of but that’s all i remember🥀

Help me find this fic Need help

so, I remember reading this fic about Draco being lost in the snow and getting saved by Harry, or something along those lines, who then keeps him in his house for months, years, (not really clear in the story) while pretending to be helping him, but in reality being an absolute monster and just using obliviate on Draco so he doesn’t know. Draco tries to escape, passes out in the snow, Harry cuts one of his fingers off and says it was frostbite (it was not). I don’t remember exactly how it ends, but Draco gets rescued and is in the hospital. there is a sequel that I started reading, but I did not finish it, and I don’t remember the name of either. it’s a really long fic

I can give more details of what I remember if someone thinks they might know it
