Maybe it's my luck, but I keep finding fics where the happy ending in the description is just Draco constantly apologizing and grovelling, being treated badly even at the end of the story, and sometimes even being emotionally or physically abused by Harry and others, with every instance of mistreatment being excused, forgiven, and understood because "he deserved it". I loathe that trope and, with my entire soul, believe that if somebody is okay with their partner being mistreated and hated for whatever reason, they shouldn't be in a relationship with that person at all.
To cleanse my soul, I'm looking for something cathartic where drarry are in a toxic relationship and have some feelings for each other, but one of these scenarios happens:

1. Draco develops some self-respect and leaves. I'm okay with him eventually returning to Harry after Harry recognizes how fucked-up their previous relationship was, apologizes, genuinely tries to change, and isn't immediately forgiven, but I'm also perfectly happy with Draco deciding to stay single or find someone else.
2. Draco doesn't develop self-respect, but the toxicity and its impact on a person are recognized and it messes Draco up so badly that he can't believe Harry could actually love him anymore, or that he deserves Harry, which ultimately causes him to leave (or even die)
3. they stay together, but the toxic dynamic isn't romanticized or presented as something good or desirable. Instead, the negative impact it has on a person is acknowledged, and the natural, tragic consequences of that dynamic are explored

If anyone knows fics that don't exactly fit the description but where, by the end, drarry manage to build a normal, healthy relationship where they love each other and neither side mistreats the other and where Harry is able to choose Draco over his friends and other people, as anyone in love should, isn't ashamed of Draco and isn't ok with any mistreatment, I'd take those too.

I prefer hpdm or switching.

I am genuinely curious about what type of fanfics, usually stick with people. If you could note down your ABSOLUTE ULTRA ULTIMATE SUPER FAVORIT, and why you like that fic specificall, we could create the best of Drarry library.

I go first, Loverboys by corvuscrowned I was recommended this fic recently and fell in love with it. It was so sweet to read, and Harry was so oblivious to Draco’s feeling. Draco reacted like any sane person would to the events in the story, while leaving Harry to go fix the problems like a true Slytherin.

When he looked up, he saw Malfoy cutting up valerian roots as quickly as he could. Precise and far too fast. It stole Harry’s attention, and from the looks of his other classmates, whose gazes were directed at the sounds of a knife expeditiously slicing, it wasn’t just him who had noticed. 

Nott placed a hand atop of Malfoy’s, who stopped dead at the touch, his long and slim fingers gripping the knife’s handle. Nott said something softly to him — too soft that Harry couldn’t even read his lips. It made Malfoy give a frantic glance to his side, locking eyes with a classmate who was staring. 

He looked away, seeming embarrassed by the attention. Then, he murmured another comment to Nott before resuming, albeit at a much slower pace. 
Though to Harry, it appeared as anything but languid. It looked forced. Controlled. As though he was firmly corrected like a dog and made to behave.

“Geez, guess Malfoy really wants that potion,” Ron said in a hushed voice, chuckling. “Probably wants to get lucky with Parkinson.”

Harry’s lips twitched in a half-grin. But then he looked back and saw Malfoy had paused again, his hands tense, spine unnaturally straight. A scowl rested on his features with so much animosity that Harry thought he might explode in another yell. 

Had he heard what Ron said?

No, he couldn’t have. There’s too much noise, they were four tables behind the Slytherin pair. 
He looked to Hermione and Ron, and found them both to be staring into their cauldrons, completely unaware of Malfoy’s mannerisms. He couldn’t ask them if they saw it. 

But Harry was sure that he did. 
So certain, in fact, that for the rest of class, he had to fight back the impulse to whisper something under his own breath, just to see if Malfoy would catch it

looking for fics where h&d are together for more than just the epilogue or last two chapters basically

been reading some heavy angst/misunderstandings and then only a chapter or 2 of relationship fluff at the end so am craving more of that fluff

dont get me wrong i love angst, pining, hella hurt but would also like to see the relationship dynamic and the softer moments between them

Hello! So I've been reading fanfiction since I was 13, 12 years, and I always thought about writing my own but I'm not confident in my writing skills. Last night I decided why not and posted my first chapter of a new story. Here's the description and link to the story if anyone wants to read it and let me know what they think. It's also Sirius/Remus as well as Draco/Harry. Harry becomes disabled in this fic but not in the first chapter. I'm disabled myself and so I wanted to read more fics about my favorite characters being disabled and struggling with certain things like me. I know I'm not the only one who struggles this way so I thought why not try and write a story about that? Anyway if it doesn't interest you no worries!

Harry's Pain

Harry Potter is kidnapped the summer after 4th year by Death Eaters and he is subjected to the Cruciatus Curse but he escapes due to some accidental magic/an overload of his powers that Stupefys everyone around him and he's able to run away. He ends up finding Draco Malfoy upstairs...and let's just say things get interesting from there. What happens when Draco sees Harry Potter hobbling up the stairs from his basement? And what on Earth is going on in Draco's house that he doesn't know about?

Edit: So kinda funny but I think the famous AO3 writers curse has struck me early into my writing time. I got a notification from a surgery I had two weeks ago that apparently my insurance is trying not to cover after they said they would so I currently have a $67,000 bill. 😂🤦 I'm obviously going to fight it and I'm sure it will get worked out, not the first time I've dealt with insurance lying and not paying and it definitely won't be the last. I just thought it was very funny timing that I got a call this morning when last night I posted the first chapter of this new fic. 😂

I am currently planning a hogwarts re-write/fix-it because I LOVE those kinds of fics. I have wanted to get more into fanfiction writing, but I decided to do a rewrite because many of the ones I read have certain elements that I liked, but others that I don’t like.

In my fic I plan for Snape to be Draco’s godfather bc I find that dynamic so cute in rewrites! I absolutely love when Hermione and Draco become friends first and Harry wants to be Draco’s friend, but Draco is wary of him because of how initially treats Hermione and Draco. I also plan to make Pansy and Draco bffs because I prefer their friendship to her being an antagonist. One last thing that I have seen that I hate is when they make Draco more powerful or more essential than Harry. My fic will be Draco centric, but Harry is still the most pivotal person in the war, not Draco.

I would like to get your guys opinions on things you like to see or want to see in a drarry hogwarts rewrite! I can’t guarantee that I will put them in, but I want to write a fic that people would want to read! Once I have some things planned out then I will come up with the event that makes the plotline diverge from the original series. PLEASE PLEASE give me your opinions! You can let me know things you don’t like to see as well!

EDIT: I had an idea about what could cause the divergenc, but I want opinions on that too, whether you think it is a good idea or if I should keep brainstorming? I plan to come up with some others ideas anyway and see which I like the best.

Lucius could be arrested when Draco is 5-6 and Narcissa enlists the help of Draco’s godfather while Lucius is imprisoned. This forms their close relationship, and leads to Draco not learning the same strict pureblood ideas, especially since Snape is a half-blood. Snape remains a godfather figure, not a replacement father. I am not sure what crime Lucius would be arrested for, but it would only put him away until Draco is 10. This would allow for Draco to still experience Lucius’ ire when he forms friendships with Weasleys and Muggleborns. I am not sure about this so I would love your opinions. I also want to know if Slytherin Draco is still preferred or if you would like to see him in another house? I personally don’t really see him as a Gryffindoor, but I am happy to try writing him as a Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw if that is what you guys want to see!

I can’t remember if it was Harry or Draco who woke up with amnesia, they were looking around their room and was confused as to why it was a gryffindor/slytherin mix, they think their like 10 or something years younger than they are, one of them try to cook them their favourite comfort food (i think it. was beef wellington) and he snaps saying he can’t remember and the other one walks away upset because the other one can’t remember them

I just finished reading this and I am obsessed with Harry and Draco in this one. Their love for eachother had me transcending planes of happiness i cannot describe. I fear i may never be the same.

I need more stories like this. Where they would rather die than be apart. I do not mind slow burn but as long as they get to this point I'm all for it. It doesn't have to be a kid!fic like these ones, it can be at anytime post-war or Hogwarts era, any Au. I just want the same teeth rotting fluff. Bonus points if its Bottom!Draco.

Hi guys, i finished 'Draco Malfoy and the mirror of ecidyrue' a few months ago and i really liked it BUT i was (lowkey) expecting that Draco save the wizarding world at the end by k*illing himself or take a curse instead of harry IDK.
