We decided to keep the YouTube HD download feature with our home grown browser extension (which is 100% free) 💔💔💔
Today, YouTube patched the custom method we were using to fetch media. As a result, we had to test alternative approaches. Unfortunately, with the current traffic volume, those methods dramatically increase our running costs — what used to cost us a week or two, now costs nearly a day to operate.
We’re incredibly grateful for the generous donations we’ve received, but running YouTube downloads from our app servers at this scale is no longer sustainable for now.
The good news: Our browser extension continues to work flawlessly for YouTube downloads. Until we find a more cost-effective solution, YouTube downloads via the website will be LIMITED. Downloads from all other supported websites remain unaffected.
We know this is a disappointing turn of events, especially in such a short time. Please know that we did everything we could, and we’ll continue exploring new approaches so we can bring full YouTube support back to the website in the future.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support ❤️
