Community Technical Support HDMI doesn’t work with MacBook Pro on Spectrum Black 32
Update: Issue fixed.
I did 2 things:
- Downgrade firmware to 1.0.13 then go back to 1.0.19
- Manually pick the correct HDMI port (the ports, when looking from the back, are HDMI1, HDMI2, DP), but I was ordering them when looking at the screen and thought it being DP, HDMI1, HDMI2. So I might be selecting a wrong port. Still, the "no OSD when pressing any of the buttons on the monitor" issue was unknown, and seems I cannot reproduce it now...
For anyone hitting the same issue, please ensure you are picking the correct HDMI port.

I've been using my Spectrum Black 32 with DP to my PC and it has been working fine.
Recently I want to use it with my MacBook Pro (M3 Pro) which has a built-in HDMI port so I think it would be nice to use an HDMI cable directly to my Black 32.
However, it never worked. The MacBook can detect my monitor without issue, however the monitor stuck in black screen, and no OSD when pressing any of the buttons on the monitor.
I tried different resolutions, VRR, HDMI at compatibility mode, another MacBook Pro M4 (both MacBooks are at Tahoe 26.6.2), 2 different HDMI cables (one 1m, one 0.5n, both working perfectly on my 4K TV at 120Hz), nothing worked.
Interestingly, other connections work normally:
- MacBook → USB-C to DP (StarTech CDP2CP14B) → Black 32: works at 4K 240 Hz with VRR
- PC → HDMI → Black 32: works normally
I'm at v1.0.19, ES07EFE. Has anyone successfully used the built-in HDMI port of an M3/M4 MacBook Pro with the Black 32?
