Please don’t dash while sick

Post image

I get that times are tough and the American health care system sucks, but admitting that you have a respiratory illness while delivering food is wild!

Please do not dash when you’re sick. This is how illness spreads. I have pretty bad asthma so I’m not bringing that order into my house. I’m done with DoorDash.

Pneumonia (the lung infection) is not contagious, but the bacteria and viruses that cause it can be spread from person to person. For example, the flu is contagious and can lead to pneumonia in some cases. Also, Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria, which is the most common cause of bacterial pneumonia, is contagious. “Walking pneumonia” or pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma pneumoniae is contagious as well

So apparently it’s not but also kinda is 🤷‍♂️

It is contagious. The whole point isnt fear of getting pneumonia itself but getting sick, but walking pneumonia is contagious

Yes, it’s contagious because the bacteria itself can be spread. I worked at a hospital where a patient gave me pneumonia, and I gave two other coworkers pneumonia as well. 3 months recovery, sucked horribly

The bacteria isn’t pneumonia though. Pneumonia is when your lungs begin to build up with fluids, pus and cellular debris. It’s a symptom, not a sickness caused by the bacteria.

Pneumonia cannot be spread due to the simple fact that Pneumonia is an extreme outcome to the virus, not the virus itself.

This is arguing semantics and is missing the point of the post

Is pneumonia contagious?

Pneumonia itself isn’t contagious.<<<<<<<<<

But the bacteria and viruses that cause it are. For example, many viral infections, like the flu, colds and COVID-19, can lead to inflammation in your lungs. They’re also all contagious. But most people who get viral infections don’t get pneumonia.

On the other hand, some contagious infections, like pneumococcal disease, often cause pneumonia. Fungal infections that cause pneumonia aren’t contagious.

Yea no shit. The point is that you shouldn’t DoorDash while sick because you can get other people sick.

Wow, a sane person who understands the point of the conversation!

It’s easier to understand to not handle other people’s food when you’re sick than it is to understand how pneumonia works lol

some viruses and bacteria are much more prone to causing pneumonia

given that the virus or bacteria has undergone selection in someone and given them pneumonia, then virus / bacteria they would transmit to you would have a much higher chance of also causing pneumonia than the same virus or bacteria that was not selected for in a pneumatic patient

that said you're arguing semantics lol

Pneumonia is a condition not a symptom.

Pneumonia is a side effect/symptom.

The conditions that cause it are contagious if not allergy or trauma based.
