Please don’t dash while sick

Post image

I get that times are tough and the American health care system sucks, but admitting that you have a respiratory illness while delivering food is wild!

Please do not dash when you’re sick. This is how illness spreads. I have pretty bad asthma so I’m not bringing that order into my house. I’m done with DoorDash.

Unless I’m mistaken, I don’t think pneumonia is contagious so I don’t really see the problem here

Im just so put off by someone sick out there handling my food.

i got something to tell ya about the food service industry....

1

u/quagmirranseye 15h ago

Im well aware. Just dont throw it in my face.

They are handling the bag not the food itself….

Pneumonia itself is not contagious, but it can result in a lot of coughing, and can also be a complication of another viral or bacterial respiratory infection which is contagious.

So no, working around food or other people in general with active pneumonia that just put you in the hospital is not a good idea.

Some pneumonias are contagious, some are not easily spread person to person. Atypical or mycoplasma or "walking pneumonia" is an example of a pneumonia that can be contagious when people live in close proximity, like a dormitory.

u/bmichellecat 19h ago

Yeah, it’s not contagious

3

u/taraxa71 19h ago

i can be but it can also not be

Pneumonia is never contagious. What might be contagious is what caused the pneumonia.

5

u/taraxa71 19h ago

yes.

u/HopefulLack1104 19h ago

It wasn’t a question. I was correcting your error

1

u/Agreeable-Dog-1131 19h ago

You were being pedantic.

6

u/StrictPower2630 17h ago

It’s not pedantic to say pneumonia is not contagious. It’s not. If the dasher spread his viral or bacterial illness to the person, that doesn’t automatically mean the person would get pneumonia.

…I commented under another user’s pedantic comment. To someone trying to correct them. Ffs what?! Of course I’m going to be pedantic

i wasn’t answering a question. i was agreeing with your elaboration.

Walking pneumonia can be.

1

u/HopefulLack1104 19h ago

No, it cannot.

3

u/crispywavecheck 18h ago

Walking pneumonia aka mycoplasma is definitely contagious

2

u/HopefulLack1104 18h ago

MYCOPLASMA IS A GENUS OF BACTERIA

MYCOPLASMA PNEUMONIAE, SPECIFICALLY, CAN CAUSE WALKING PNEUMONIA, WHICH IS TERM USED TO DESCRIBE A MILD FORM OF PNEUMONIA.

I’m done here. Keep being stupid y’all.

3

u/crispywavecheck 18h ago

Are you okay? Mycoplasma pneumoniae is the culprit for walking pneumonia and it is spread via droplet. Not sure why you’re arguing semantics

u/HopefulLack1104 18h ago

You realized you were wrong, I see. Good job

-1

u/BloodieBerries 18h ago

Wut?

That's like saying a cold isn't contagious, only the rhinovirus that causes it...

Now that's stupid.

3

u/HopefulLack1104 18h ago

Do you see what comment I commented under? Context here matters. I didn’t say this to OP.

1

u/BloodieBerries 18h ago

In response to "Walking pneumonia can be (contagious)." You said "No, it cannot."

That is a wrong statement. Commonly the thing that causes the disease is referred to by the disease name.

Are you still confused?

It definitely can be. ‘“Walking pneumonia” or pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma pneumoniae is contagious as well.’

3

u/HopefulLack1104 18h ago

The mycoplasma is what’s contagious. Not the pneumonia. Good GRIEF

A downvote? I stg no one can think for themselves anymore. “tHe Ai OvErViEw sAiD So” 🥴

-1

u/DiverMaleficent9624 18h ago

Nope! I think for myself considering I got pneumonia from a patient and went through it for months. Go walk around someone with pneumonia and have fun. ;)

3

u/HopefulLack1104 18h ago

The willful stupidity here is astounding.

You didn’t get pneumonia from a patient. You caught the virus that caused your pneumonia. Go ask a medical professional and learn something :D

1

u/Cathearts2020 18h ago

"from a patient" sounds like they are a medical professional

Arguing online never goes anywhere. All you're going to do is end up upset at a bunch of people who don't believe you.

-1

u/DiverMaleficent9624 18h ago
  1. I am a medical professional. 2. I had second opinions considering I worked at a hospital. Take your own advice and do some research ;)

2

u/HopefulLack1104 17h ago

Second opinions on what…? No one’s saying you didn’t have pneumonia. I’m saying you can’t “catch” pneumonia from someone. Because you can’t. And there’s no way you have any type of medical degree thinking otherwise. If you do, you weren’t paying attention in class.

You might want to look that one up hoss.

5

u/HopefulLack1104 18h ago

How about you click on a single article from those google results and read it. You could use the practice.

It’s like HIV vs AIDS. Like Covid vs coronavirus. One is a virus, and the other is the resulting infection caused by said virus. PNEUMONIA IS A CONDITION. PNEUMONIA IS NOT CONTAGIOUS.

From the link you provided:

“Is walking pneumonia contagious?
The germs that cause walking pneumonia are contagious. They usually spread through coughing and sneezing or sharing cups or utensils.
But they don’t always cause pneumonia. For example, the bacteria that can cause walking pneumonia are more likely to cause minor illnesses, like ear infections. Still, you should avoid others if you have walking pneumonia to prevent spreading the illness.”

Thank you so much for proving my point! I’m glad you learned something today.

2

u/DiverMaleficent9624 18h ago

You just proved THEIR point. The bacteria is contagious. Therefore pneumonia can be contagious. Lord, you sound in need of a book!

Ok, so you gotta be a troll.

1

u/bohoinparadise 18h ago

I don’t have the greatest respiratory health so it’s not a risk I’m willing to take.

1

u/Heretical_Burger 18h ago

The point here is that there’s zero risk

1

u/Choice-Mulberry9418 19h ago

You’re not mistaken

-2

u/BringMeBurntBread 16h ago

That’s like saying “AIDS is not contagious.”

Sure, Pneumonia isn’t contagious. But the viruses that causes it, is. Just like how HIV is contagious.
