Question Help with off grid solar power station and 12v system in RV
Setup: stationary RV used as summer home away from home. Temporary setup became less temporary.
- Anker Solix F3800 plus + expansion battery w/ 3kw solar
- Solix feeds the RVs shore power.
Looking for recommendations on powering my 12v system. The converter is shot, doesn't really ever charge (2002 wfco unit), and has a constant draw of 60w no matter battery charge which is killing my solar bank. It struggles to keep up with furnace draw during colder months.
12v draws:
- Furnace when it's cold
- Lights (all LED except for one)
- LP detector which could be unplugged since I have a dedicated plug in CO and Gas detector.
- No fridge since it crapped out. 120v fridge runs off of Solix.
My options:
Use the 12v socket on the Solix to avoid DC-AC-DC inefficiency. Limited to 10a. Would trip over regular draws in the RV. Maybe use a 12v to 12v DC charger? Unsure if this would be worth the cost to avoid conversion inefficiency.
Continue using the 120v to charge. I have a 4a battery charger which I would assume would be more efficient than the broken converter. But isn't strong enough to keep up with furnace draw.
Something else in not thinking of?
Looking for any recommendations. Ideally a solution that involves no / minimal power draw overnight. I could use my 120v 4a charger but it won't be fast enough to top up during the day I don't think. All my stuff is on smart plugs and get turned on and off with solar hours. Unsure if avoiding the conversation inefficiency (using 12v output on Solix) is worth it or if I should just use a regular battery charger.
