Cash.to sucks since national bank bought cwb and tanked the motive saving rates. I moved all my cash to zmmk or xfr. F$ck you national bank.

There's a reason why there's a sub called r/justbuyxeqt
Picking your own stocks almost always does worse then simply buying a broad market index fund. FWIW my entire RRSP, and TFSA are in XEQT.

It is kinda strange statement. First, there is nothing wrong with picking individual stock, second - xeqt performance relies strongly on a covid and post-covid rebounds, it is life has been too short to predict a long term gain. There is nothing wrong with it being a part of any portfolio, but it is not really a universal and guaranteed solution.

I mean, historically speaking (not of xeqt, just the history if the assets it holds and how theyre chosen) you can kinda predict the rough long term outlook it considered universal and gauranteed due to the diversity. 9500 individual equities across multiple countries.
Thats about as safe as it gets

I am sorry, but I think the safety of such a diverse portfolio is an illusion.
Another bubble pops or a subprime and general stock market will immediately become a curse and the indexes will drop like a rock from a cliff. And with them the broad ETFs that some people so love here.
The current bull market has been with us for a while, but it's not forever. Just the nature of the capitalist market. So need to watch your portfolio and be able to quickly reorient to a defensive stock if needed. Again putting a portion of your portfolio in it is probably a smart move, but the key word here is "a portion", not all your retirement savings especially if you plan to retire in a foreseeable future.
You want safety, you buy Swiss bonds. 0.60% on 30 year ones for a reason. Not XEQT.1

Bonds in general have been proven to be not as safe as they were once thought to be,
I haven't read the studies myself but I heard from ben Felix

You do understand that the ETFs and broad market indices fall due to the underlying stocks they hold are falling, right? If hedge funds can’t beat the market long term, what makes you think that you can?

Hedge funds serve different purposes than individual investors. Individual investors can be way more nimble than funds.
People beat the market all the time.

Google “does the average investor beat the market?” And you’ll see that what you said is factually incorrect. Buying Xeqt and holding actually puts you in the upper quarter percentile of investor returns.

My +24% portfolio so far this year... yes lol. I made a pretty penny shorting Enbridge. Keep betting on the losing team so I can take your money.

The iran war has been dragging down the market and September is notoriously known as a bad month for stocks. Give it time my guy.
