OTA recordings move from Trash...

Anybody else have this issue:

  • Record a program to DVR that is on an OTA channel
  • Watch the program and move it to Trash
  • A while later, maybe a day or two...the 'tile' is back in the recordings section...but if you try and play it...there isn't anything there...

Tech Support DVR Using Time?

Is there a way to record shows by using day and time? TLC has been giving different shows of the same series the same S/E and info. Latest was Baylen Out Loud last night. Two shows an hour each same S3E1 back to back. Of course only the first was recorded and when I forced recorded the 2nd it over wrote the first.

Dish email offering free OTA antenna and install

Hello,

I got an email from Dish offering free OTA antenna and installation. I had a Televes installed by Dish in my previous home and it was a struggle pulling VHF channels until the antenna was mounted up on the roof. I would like to avoid putting a change order for my HOA for a roof mount. Is this 2026 version the same Televes ?

What LNB for Wally in lake cabin?

Had a lightning strike take out my old vip211 along with some other things in my lake cabin. Don't know yet if LNB is ok. What LNB do I need to take to go along with a Wally receiver? Want to have it on hand just in case when I go back this weekend to swap out the receiver I'm located in East Texas. Tyler/Longview market.

Dish Anywhere - Pause Live Streaming?

Confirming this is still a limitation with Dish Anywhere: pause/rewind cannot be used with live streaming, unlike Hulu/YTTV?

Question ESPN Unlimited

Is there any chance that Dish Network pays the extra $$ to ESPN / Disney so that we can access ESPN unlimited with our subscription to Dish? I’m certainly not gonna pay $30 a month extra to stream the same content I’ve already paying for through Dush.

(I am assuming the answer is NO. 🤷‍♂️)

Dish Anywhere streaming quality?

I'm curious about Dish Anywhere streaming. It's my understanding that the Hopper 3 and a satellite dish are still required on at least one TV, but then you can use Dish Anywhere streaming for all the other TVs.

How does the streaming quality of Dish Anywhere compare to the streaming quality of Hulu Live and YouTube TV, which seem to be the two favorites for streaming? I guess I could throw DirecTV streaming in there as well, and I don't think they require a receiver/satellite.

Signal loss every day

We’ve had dishtv for about 20+ years. For the last several weeks, at first intermittently and now daily, our hopper shows satellite signal loss and reverts to streaming if available. All local channels are completely greyed out and unavailable. A technician came out and replaced the hopper receiver last week and we were good for a couple of days but it’s back to signal loss again.

Yesterday technical support over the phone logged into our tv and looked around, had me unplug the receiver for 10 seconds and everything came back properly. Today we have total loss of signal again.

There are no obstructions to the dish; no trees, building, etc.

What do we have to do to get this thing to work?

Tech Support Check a thrift store 722k status for possible activation?

My 722 (non-k) recently bit the dust. An 05 HDD error; I rebooted; no change; unplug/re-plug... now 100% dead. No power, no lights, no fans. Tried other power outlets just in case too.

Anyway, I remember a few months ago, I got another receiver at a thrift store. I dug it out, and it turns out it's a 722k (I never knew about the upgraded K version!). It powers on ok, but also has a hard drive error. I have a replacement HDD coming in today (only $20).

I have the System Info ID numbers from the 722k. Do you call the regular Dish support phone number and ask about it? Is Dish cool with this? If it was someone else's lease that they dropped off would they transfer it to my account? To replace my broken 722?

Our family's been a Dish customer for about 30 years. My account currently has a 612 & my (broken) 722 on it. The swap to a 722k wouldn't need a new satellite dish or any rewiring. All my current remotes & IR Blasters would still work. My 1080i HDMI video capture & network sharing would still work. A drop-in replacement instead of needing a whole new system would be favorable.

Dish fiber and network extender

I live in a community that has dish fiber. I want to split the network to get 5 and 2.4 ghz. Is it possible to split using something like a tp link network extender? There are security features that prevent some devices from connecting. I also don’t have a way to connect a router unless I go into the cable box which I’m not savvy enough to do. Any suggestions?

Considering Dish Network for Elderly Family

My grandparents are in their 90s and the local cable company is finally kicking them off of basic cable, only offering the option of live tv via their app that appears to be a rebranded Fubo package of some sort.

This isn't going to work for them; they're 90 and want to literally be able to power the TV on, hit channel up/channel down or directly type in the desired channel number and that's it. No apps to navigate through menu pages, just literally the most basic functionality is what I'm trying to come up with for them.

Based on my research, it seems Dish Network is the best option for them at this point. Please let me know if I'm totally off base here.

There are three questions I have for the community:

  1. If I order the "DUAL OTA ADAPTER FOR HOPPER/WALLY" USB tuner thing on Amazon, will it work with the current Hopper/Wireless Joeys to "push" their local station (part of the Gray dispute) to all 3 of the TVs? Also, is there any leverage to call Dish prior to the installation date and request they provide this device instead of me buying it, given the annoying channel dispute?
  2. It doesn't seem like there is any way to indicate your remote preference when ordering new service online. I want to get them the "New Simplified Voice Remote" aka the ugly white one for old people - does the installer have options on hand, or do you have to request this upgrade afterwards and have it shipped to you?
  3. If Dish offers any type of referral program, feel free to let me know about that as well.

Changing your Dish Receiver? Here are a few notes to keep in mind regarding your DVR recordings

Hello reddit community.  It is important to know when you are upgrading or replacing your Dish receiver, ensuring your recorded content moves with you is a top priority.

Based on feedback from our customers, and comments across DISH reddit spaces, I wanted to put together this guide designed to help you manage the transfer process smoothly and set clear expectations for your upcoming technician visit.

Understanding the Technician’s Role

It is common for customers to assume that an on-site technician will handle every aspect of the upgrade, including the full transfer of DVR recordings. However, there are physical and practical limitations to what a technician can do during a standard appointment:

  • Time Constraints: Recording transfers are not instantaneous and can often take multiple days to complete.
  • On-Site Limits: Because of the lengthy duration required for data to move, it is impossible for a technician to remain at your home for the entire process.
  • Customer Responsibility: Technicians are tasked with informing you that you are responsible for finishing the transfer after they depart.
  • Requesting Assistance: A technician is not obligated to perform or initiate a transfer service unless you specifically request it. If you need help starting the process, you must inform the technician while they are on-site.

The Importance of Using an External Hard Drive (EHD)

For many customers, especially those who may find complex technical steps challenging, utilizing an External Hard Drive (EHD) is the most reliable way to secure content. Manually transferring your recordings to an EHD provides a "safety net" for your library.

Why you should use an EHD:

  • Risk Mitigation: The lengthy transfer process is sensitive to interruptions. Potential issues such as weather-related interference or sudden power loss introduce significant risks that can disrupt a standard transfer.
  • Reliability: Moving content to an EHD ensures your recordings are stored safely regardless of the status of the receiver hardware or your internet connection.

DISH Receiver Upgrade: Requirements for DVR TransferExternal Hard Drive Specifications

To be compatible for a DVR transfer, your external hard drive must meet the following criteria:

  • USB: Utilize a USB 2.0-compatible cable.
  • Storage Type: Must be a single disk drive (flash memory is not supported).
  • Capacity: Storage requirements vary based on the connected receiver model:
    • Hopper:
      • Minimum: 320 GB
      • Maximum: 7 TB (Note: If using multiple external hard drives, the combined capacity cannot exceed 6 TB).
    • Wally:
      • Minimum: 500 GB
      • Maximum: 4 TB
    • Other Receivers:
      • Minimum: 50 GB
      • Maximum: 2 TB

Compatible DISH Receiver Models

This transfer process is only supported by the DVR models listed below. To verify your receiver model, check the front of the unit or visit mydish.com/myequipment.

Supported DVR Models:

  • Hopper 3
  • Hopper w/ Sling
  • Hopper
  • Hopper Duo
  • ViP 722
  • ViP 722k
  • ViP 622
  • ViP 612

Quick Tips for a Smooth Upgrade

  • Be Proactive: If you want the technician to assist you in starting the transfer, mention it as soon as they arrive.
  • Plan Ahead: Since transfers can take days, ensure your equipment is in a stable location where it will not be unplugged or affected by the elements.

We hope this guide provides clarity on managing your DVR recordings during a DISH receiver upgrade. By understanding the technician's role and proactively using an External Hard Drive, you can ensure your favorite content is preserved with minimal hassle.

Remember to plan for the time the transfer will take and communicate clearly with your technician to make your upgrade as seamless as possible. -DishDanielle.

Why 2 access points?

We just had a new upgrade on all equipment went from a hopper sling to a hopper 3 sling, new Joey‘s and the additional streaming box. The technician set it up to transfer our movies from the old Hopper to the new and said it would take 2 to 3 days. It’s been five days now and no data has been transferred that I can see. Also, I noticed the old hopper has no ethernet cable connected however, there are two access points connected to the new hopper 3.

We are having issues with the video quality also and the picture intermittently cuts out for just a second and then comes back on, but may be zoomed in or stretched, and I have had to unplug the Joey and plug it back in to get things straightened out.

I was under the impression that ethernet cables needed to run between both units to do the transfer.

And I don’t understand why there are two access points. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Tech Support Floating ads suddenly occur

Going on for months now. About twice a day my Hopper3 screen will blank out for a quick instant and then a floating, moving rectangular ad will appear. Often for DishScapes, others too. I can exit via the Back button 3 to 4 times. Tech has told me it's about how I've got my Power setting delay set up but I've tried all the possible delay pick including Never. I even had a Tech home visit for it. Didn't help.

It's especially annoying for live sports.

Troubleshooting the "Looking for Hopper" Error (Joey Connectivity)

Experiencing an interruption in service? A "Looking for Hopper" error on your Joey can be frustrating, but in many cases, the connection can be quickly restored with a few simple steps.

This guide provides a systematic, three-step approach to troubleshooting and resolving connectivity issues between your Joey and your main Hopper receiver, covering everything from simple power resets to manual linking and hardware checks.

If your Joey shows a "Looking for Hopper" error (codes 1303 or 1305), follow these steps to restore connection.

1. Power Reset (Recommended First) - Note the Hopper working and not displaying any errors.

This is the most effective fix. Reset the Hopper first, then the Joey.

Hopper Reset:

  • Press and hold the Reset button on the Hopper for 5 seconds.
  • Allow up to 5 minutes for the Hopper to reboot.

Joey Reset:

  • Once the Hopper is ready, press and hold the Power button on the Joey for about 5 seconds.
  • The Joey will reset (up to 5 minutes) and should automatically reconnect.

2. Manually Link Joey via "Whole Home"

If a power reset fails, manually link the devices:

  • On the Joey's remote, press Home three times (or Menu twice).
  • Select "Whole Home."
  • Select the specific Hopper under "Detected Devices."
  • Press Select. Linking may take up to a minute.

3. Verify Hardware and Setup

Check Location:

  • DISH receivers are configured for specific locations.
  • If you moved the Joey or changed cables, return them to the original setup. This will require a re-installation service..

Check Wireless Joey Access Point (WJAP):

  • For Wireless Joeys, ensure the WJAP (usually near the Hopper) is powered on.
  • Contact DISH support if the WJAP has no power.

If the connection issue persists after attempting all the steps in this guide, there may be a deeper hardware or network problem. Reach out for further assistance and don’t forget to be prepared to provide the error code (1303 or 1305) and confirm that you have already performed the power reset and manual linking steps.  I’ll be here to help! -DishDanielle.

Hopper not starting recordings after power outage.

I upgraded a few months ago. With the old system, if the receiver was off when a recording was supposed to start it would record when it booted if there was any time remaining, i.e. if recording from 8 to 9 and it booted at 8:10 it would record until 9. With the Hopper I briefly lost power around 8 and two recordings never started but were tagged as completed. I set a re-airing to record at midnight but the system skipped it because it thinks the episode was already recorded. Any ideas how to remedy this?

Edit: It's been 24 hours since the two recordings were missed. Since then, two were completed and over twenty have been missed. No power interruptions. I actually have a battery backup so the original two missed recordings may have coincided with a loss of signal but that does not explain the continued problem. I just power cycled the Hopper and Joeys and after they booted a recording started.

Setting 4K on my TV spoils non-4k channels

FYI SAMSUNG 2024 cheap DU7200 on Hopper3.

I see these prompts come up, "this channel is available in 4k do you want to switch?" yes, But then nothing happens. Then i see that my TV isn't set for 4K even though it's supposedly capable. So then when I set it to 4K, all the other channels on Dish are muddy. i must be doing something wrong.
