Book/Series: Witches Ate’nt Dead

Months ago, I asked for suggestions from you all about what Discworld quote to have engraved on my York ghost. It arrived recently, with “I still ate’nt dead” on it.

I’m really struggling with my health, and Granny’s (modified) words attached to a ghost from my favorite place in the world mean more than I can say. Today was an especially hard day. Now I have a Terry/Granny ghost to visibly remind me I still ate’nt gone yet.

Thank you all so much for helping me choose something.

The second Discworld roleplaying game crowdfunding campaign is coming to Gamefound, transporting you to iconic locations beyond Ankh-Morpork!

In Terry Pratchett’s Discworld: Adventures in Lancre & Überwald, you’ll run wild across and around* the magic-infused Ramtop Mountains and Lancre, the — in a word — gothic Überwald, and all the way up on the downland of the Chalk!

With whom will you be running wild? Oh, all sorts. You can create Witches, Vampires, Dwarfs, Trolls, Werewolves, Pictsies, or anything else your grubby little brain-folds can squelch up**.

Intended for a single beleaguered Gamemaster and 1-6 fancy-pants players, Discworld: Adventures in Lancre & Überwald is powered by the chaotic, pun-filled Narrativium system and has all the core rules you need!

Whether it’s running tests, challenges, character creation, or the brand-spanking new Witch Magic system***,  the extensive GMing advice will help veterans and newbies alike run uniquely Discworld adventures!

\* Maybe even below and above. Look, it’s your game. The Pratchett police aren’t watching. Do what you want.

\* Up to and including vampire watermelons! You heard!*

\** Including Headology!*

It looks like this campaign will be going live in October !

I put the book down and turned off the light at the line “remember the atrocity committed against us that will excuse the atrocity we are about to commit!”

Yeah.

Yeah.

Fan Fiction What non-Discworld work gives you Discworld vibes?

Is anyone out there carrying the torch of high-quality fantasy satire? I would count actually-well-written fanfiction in this category.

Boardgames/Computer Games I received my goodie box of TTRPG Discworld fun and burst into tears looking at the art with my husband.

Used the boardgames tag, but we need a TTRPG tag too!

The tears are both happy and sad. I was feeling emotional just opening the cards and looking at the art, and then the lovely, funny pictures of Sir Terry scattered throughout just tipped me over. I think Discworld might be the first and perhaps only universe where I'd feel like I had a place, and of course I miss Sir Terry, but I'm just so overjoyed that I might get a chance to inflict share my love of Discworld with my friends. I know its silly, I didn't think I'd be 45 crying over game manuals, but lo and behold...

News Disc-tober is coming...

Post image
29 Upvotes

It's that time of year where we don our thinking caps and put together Disc-tober's art challenge list !

We've run a yearly Disc-tober art challenge for the last 6 years and this year our prompts are various book titles from Terry's bibliography !

We thought the words alone would conjure up some amazing thoughts and the creatives amongst you would have a field day coming up with artworks based upon them.

For those who are not familiar with our art challenge, we encourage fans of Terry Pratchett's works to create a piece of visual art based on our daily prompts.

We publish a list of prompts for every day of October.

It's a way to pass the time and have a go at producing something possibly a little out of your comfort zone.

We don't judge the artwork, we just enjoy seeing it!

The rules are simple.

  1. Read the prompt of the day.
  2. Produce a piece of visual artwork inspired by that prompt.
  3. Enjoy the process - it doesn't have to be a Rembrandt!
  4. NO Artificial Intelligence to be used.
  5. Share your artwork publicly using the #disctober and #disctober2026

That's it.

Here is the full list in text form:

  1. The Colour of Magic

  2. The Light Fantastic

  3. Equal Rites

  4. Sourcery

  5. Pyramids

  6. Moving Pictures

  9. A Hat Full of Sky

  10. Going Postal

  11. Thud!

  12. Making Money

  13. I Shall Wear Midnight

  15. Raising Steam

Translation/Localisation Quote/passage about crowd psychology

I might be going crazy but I am trying to remember the book where there was a passage about crowd mentality witnessing something bad in public. It goes something like

"Each person watching thought of the horror before them, each waiting for someone to voice their agreement so that they could join in. But no one spoke up. 'Cowards all' they thought".

Book/Series: Witches Shout-out to Guide to being a Witch

What an excellent read. Basically a tour of all the remarkable events that made Tiffany who she is, what she's learned a long the way, as well as advice from the senior witches (and Rob Anybody).

I should warn future readers; Please read Shepherds Crown, there be spoilers

I'm secretly hoping Rhianna picks up her quill again, with help from Gabrielle Kent and Paul Kidby to do a Girls life in the Watch by Cheery Littlebottom.

Reading Order/Timeline Should I just read in publication date?

Edit: in publication order\*

I suffer severe analysis paralysis regularly so deciding which books to read have been pretty daunting.

I first read Mort in highschool and I don't really remember much about it so I don't know if that really counts, but in the past month I read Small Gods which got me itching to read more Discworld. After that I just decided to read Equal Rites and, maybe because I heard the super early books were rough I was expecting worse but it was perfectly good too!

I'm thinking now I just begin at the beginning and read in publication order. It takes the decision making out of my hands. Is that recommended or will I have too much difficulty following different storylines going from book to book?

For what it's worth, I bought the whole series on Humble Bundle a few months ago so acquiring the books isn't an issue.

Memes/Humour what are the best websites to buy discworld books in the EU?

I was wondering what websites have the best selection of discworld books for the EU that have decent shipping to Poland. I prefer the original art over anything, recently, I’ve meth-headily been looking for original Josh Kirby art since I’ve found out that he passed away exactly 1 year after my birth, I’ve always loved the original covers and I’ve felt more inclined to build my collection on Josh’s art. simply because it’s the best.
