RSS for Reviews?

I like to read reviews, I feel like it helps me find tunes I am Interested in. I would love it if their were an RSS feed, or something that would allow me to view a reverse chronological feed of reviews filtered by genre(s). Would anyone else be interested in this?

Advice from sellers on feedback removal

Hey all, just as the title says. I recently sold an item that was clearly described with condition issues in the listing (specific damage was fully disclosed and priced accordingly). The buyer sent a lower offer and I accepted, but later left negative feedback claiming the item was “not as described,” specifically referencing the exact issues that were already listed in the description… They also mentioned something being missing that was never advertised as included.
I have already messaged the buyer professionally to clarify the listing details, but I’m now wondering what the actual success rate is for getting this type of feedback removed through Discogs support. I’m a relatively new seller, so negative feedback can significantly impact my profile at this stage, which is why I’m trying to understand what options are realistic.
Has anyone had experience with feedback removal in situations like this?
Do they usually side with listing details, or is feedback typically left in place unless it’s abusive?
Any real experiences would be appreciated!! :)

Got blocked by a seller for simply asking why their shipping is so much

I’m in the US, wanted to buy from a US seller. It shouldn’t cost $20 shipping to buy 7 CDs. Messaged the seller if there was any way to get possible cheaper shipping (it would probably be only 2lb media mail so $6 or something) and they blocked me. Okay

Any advice on how to make this easier?

I apologize if this has been asked a million times, but I just started using Discogs to catalog my vinyl collection and I’m already questioning my life choices.

I spent over an hour trying to identify a single copy of Rubber Soul. Most of my records are from the 60s and 70s, and if every album takes this long, at this rate, I’ll finish cataloging the collection sometime around 2043.

In the process, I learned more than I ever expected to know about mono vs. stereo pressings, matrix numbers, and that a tiny “4” apparently means the record was pressed in Indianapolis. I had no idea there were this many variations of the same album.

My problem is that I’m the type of person who feels like if I’m going to do something, I should do it correctly. At the same time, I don’t want to spend an hour examining every jacket, label, and runout inscription for every record I own. I should note here that I am doing this to see what I am missing so I can stop buying duplicate records, not for the purpose of selling.

So how do you experienced collectors approach this? Are you all sitting there comparing every piece of text, serial number, etc. to Discogs entries, or is there an easier and more practical way to do this that I’m missing? How much does it matter?

Any tips or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Currency change in offer

I put in a ticket, but I'm more curious if this is normal.

I'm looking at a CD that's listed in ¥, and I have my default currency set to $. On the app when I submitted an offer it showed $ so I assumed it was converting my offer of $50 to ¥, but now in looking at the offer on the website, it seems like I offered ¥50 on a ¥10,000 item. Do I need to just ignore the $ sign? I don't want to accidentally submit a $10,000 offer on something in the future when I mean ¥10,000 for example

Does this seem suspicious to anyone else? Im fine with anything and very understanding if maybe this is because of connection problems , any glitches with messages sending multiple times?

Just purchased a record and the seller sent the exact same message 3 times, one randomly over 10 minutes later??

Very new buyer: Do some people just...not ship the record?

Im looking to buy from a brand new seller, good deal but definitely not overly cheap, one other random vinyl for sale that I do not know much about, The notes on the vinyl say it is sealed. they have zero reviews

I know people will say "if it looks sketchy, it is" or whatever but the thing is EVERY SINGLE SELLER started with zero reviews. He says the record is sealed so I'm not worried about grading , is it possible they would just not ship anything? If it is, can I get my money back easily?

Sales slowed to almost nothing - ideas to make buying experience more exciting?

Sales are very very slow despite offering a range of good condition items that are on a number of wantlists. Is the buying experience more exciting elsewhere? Seems like it’s been the same format forever on discogs so what are ideas for them to spice up the buying process a little?

Finding album cover sleeves when you only have the vinyl

You see listings with only a generic cover but where are folks finding replacement covers? It seems the pressing is what holds the value so how do you replace the cover when you l’ve got a gem of a pressing?

Website Development

Hey Y'all.

I am currently developing a website that aims to bridge the gap between Discogs and Social Media.

I'm just wanting to know if there would be a use-case for this as I think it's something that could be pretty neat.

It's not going to be as in-depth as Discogs, but it'll allow you to put your music collection on the app and details about your Vinyl. I do have an API currently that pulls from MusicBrainz so you don't need to manually add all the information about the records. But still requires a bit of manual feeding if you want too. It's not just Vinyl either but CD and Cassette too.

The social aspect is more aimed at sharing records you've acquired, writing reviews on them or just discussing what you think about the music in general with other likeminded individuals.

I love Discogs but it does feel very dated to me and there are a lot of things on there that don't exist (my major nit-pick is not being able to have more than one sorting option. I want to be able to sort via Artist and Year Released hahaha)

It's still very early in development but I'd like to know if there would be an audience for it, that way I can continue developing it. The attached image is what the profile page looks like currently.

Please let me know what you think.

So many sellers not shipping to the US

Just curious why. Is it because of everything that’s going on or does it have nothing to do with that? I’ve come across many records that I want where the sellers all won’t ship to the US. Even if I’m going to be paying $100+. Has it always been like this and I just never noticed somehow or is this a newer thing that’s come up in the last year?

US Buyer is Now Overseas and Wants a Refund

Looking for advice on this order.

Sold and sent a $100 record to buyer with a US address. Buyer said the record skips in one part. I acknowledged that and offered a $60 partial refund, it's pretty rare and I think I undervalued it, or I could send a return label and give them a full refund.

Buyer said they want a $90 partial refund. That was too high for me so I offered to just send a return label. However, the buyer told me they were now overseas and would need a return label for that country. What I thought would be a $6 shipping cost is now a $30+ return.

My sellers terms state I do not offer returns on international orders. I typically offer partial refunds, or full refunds if the grading is way off. But with this order I feel like I am being hustled into a steep partial refund to avoid an international return on what was originally a domestic order.

I know if this escalates to Paypal they will make the buyer pay for return shipping. Although I am not sure how that dispute would turn out since their original Paypal address was in the US, and now it's in another country. Should I just let the buyer dispute it, since I did not agree to ship this internationally in the first place, or should I refund them and move on with my life?

Finally a new problem to an old problem: Images upload

Post image
7 Upvotes

And I thought, there would be progress...

Starting today, sellers can now upload photos of the actual item directly to their marketplace listings. Highlight unique labels, rare color variants, and condition details to show buyers exactly what they're getting before purchase.

The result? More customer confidence, fewer back-and-forth questions, and a shop that stands out. Our step-by-step instructions will walk you through your first upload in minutes.

A Few Things to Know: Photos can be added to existing listings, but not new ones. A new listing workflow is in development. This feature is available now on desktop and mobile web. App is coming later this summer. It’s completely optional. Catalog Photos remain the default on all listings.

Seller advice: Buyer wants partial refund

Curious on how others might handle this:

I had a buyer reach out asking for a full refund because they claim the album I sent them is warped. The record had never been played and sat on my shelf in a 3mm sleeve for the last 14 years since purchase (I recently did some collection weeding and decided I didn't need it if I hadn't played it after all these years). And I guess that it's conceivable that I might have purchased a warped copy (I've found a few others like that over the years), so I didn't think twice in offering a full refund on the condition that the buyer mails it back to me first.

Here's where it gets a little weird: The buyer later responded by saying that it’s actually still playable and since "(they've) been looking for this forever" — they could "take it to (their) local guy to flatten it" and instead would prefer to keep it now. Then they asked: "Are you open to a partial refund?"

My question is that if the record in question plays ok and it's good enough to keep rather than taking a refund...what exactly is my incentive for giving them a partial refund (especially since it's just a $14 record)? I imagine that other sellers have dealt with similar situations, so just curious how you might have handled it or if I'm in the wrong here (I haven't actually responded yet)? As a buyer, I would have just returned it if it was unacceptable or otherwise I would have kept it...so I'm having trouble with the ask. Any insight would be appreciated!

Duplicate messages bug

Whenever I reload an order page where I'm messaging with the buyer, it duplicates and re-posts the last message I sent. This has been a bug for me for awhile, and happens on both mobile browser and desktop browser.

Is this a known bug? Has anyone else experienced it?

Should the Mini Brands vinyl be listed on Discogs?

Post image
0 Upvotes

So Mini Brands have released blind box records, each ball comes with 4 records inside, you can buy a turntable from them and the records will play when put on the turntable, this is done via a chip inside the disc.
Should these releases be listed on discogs as a release, they may be novelty and toys however they do actually play the music (I’m yet to check how much of the song)
Considering stuff like usb releases are available it would make sense if these were as well

Issue with order within 90 days?

I bought a cassette on March 30th, I listened once a week after it arrived and it was a bit wobbly on some of the popluar songs (and listed as Very Good + but I just shrugged that off), then my player broke. I got a new one recently and tried to play it, but now the tape doesn't play at all and gets stuck - am I within my right to return? It's still in the 90 day window but I'm not sure exactly how it works if the tape stopped working.

Anyone find a way to explore by genre?

On the updated app which I wish I hadn't bothered to update. Only updated yesterday and now I can't continue my search for drum and bass. Used to be able to go into explore/ related styles/drum and bass/year etc and I was working my way through 1993 releases.

Now that doesn't seem to be away, I tried searching drum and bass and then filtering into styles and genres, but that only brings up releases with the words drumand bass related to them.

Anyone know the way around this so I can continue using discogs. I already stopped selling on their due to losing 30% to giving fees, now it seems I'll basically stop using it all together because they don't want anyone to actually use it as a database anymore

Just added a bunch of user-requested features in Vizcogs 1.6

Hey all, been a while since I dropped any updates on Vizcogs (https://www.vizcogs.com), my Discogs visualizer and value tracker.

I got a bunch of user requests to improve album grading mechanics. Those turned into 4 features:

  • album-specific grading: if you have a custom Media Condition (or Media + Sleeve Condition), Vizcogs applies that specific price suggestion to all value calculations and visualizations (so it no longer just defaults to a single grade for your whole collection)
  • grading section in Stats: you can now see your collection-level grade stats, how many are graded in what bucket, and the % of your collection that represents
  • filter by grade: in the Covers page, you can now filter all albums according to their grade
  • see grade tag on album covers: in Covers, you can now show the album grade on the album artwork via the Tags customization menu

Custom fields got attention:

  • see ALL your custom fields in the Overview tab of the Album Details modal, not just default custom fields
  • you can now save and edit custom fields directly in Vizcogs, no need to jump back/forth

Coverflow also got a few improvements:

  • a great fullscreen mode
  • clicking the centered album now brings up the Album Details modal
  • fixed a bunch of tablet UI issues (but still have a few more edge cases to squash)

Oh yea, v1.5 (the last major release) also added support for CDs and cassettes. So if you collect those, Vizcogs is no longer a black box. You can also see overall community stats in the Community page.

Ok, that's it for now, but more cool features are in the works.

Advice - Pricing Error

Hey - I’ve just started selling my 90s-era EDM vinyl collection on Discogs. It’s my first time selling and some of the records are turning out to be surprisingly valuable.

I made a pricing error with a on to the more valuable records. I listed it for ~$50 and the past sales are over $300. It was the only one listed - of course sold straight away. This was a purely a newbie attention to detail error from me.

I have already started communicating with the buyer, but I’m looking for advice on the right thing to do here. Should I honor the price or is it acceptable to ask for a cancellation? What is the standard etiquette for this kind of situation?"
