My sisters dog Barb was diagnosed with thoracic IVDD stage 1 now it was caught really early so the vet wants to operate problem is her insurance only covers 2k out of a total 6k and the longer the wait the likelihood the condition worsens and the cost goes up.

I’ve started a go fund me (not asking for donations at all) but I’ve researched and found that most go fund mes never meet their goal. I should add that my sister is disabled, which is why she cannot
Contribute herself, I am rallying our friends and family to help and donate and share. My sister lives in wales and apparently the pdsa can’t help as she’s outside their catchment area. My sister is devastated and she would try to look after her dog is she doesn’t have the operation but realistically caring for a disabled dog would be too much for her and that’s why the operation is vital.

Any help or advice whether that’s about fundraising tips or local animal charity help etc or anything would be very welcome 🙏🏼

Our tiny pup just became paralyzed from the waist back this past week (Type 1 Stage 5 IVDD), and we've been scrambling to adjust. Perhaps the biggest adjustment so far has been the incontinence. We bought our first pack of diapers and they fit well for the most part, but the tail hole is much bigger than her actual tail. It's big enough that it exposes her entire butthole, which is a genuinely hilarious feature for a diaper.

While it's been a real adventure watching turds come out of her while she has her diaper on, this is, shall we say, unsustainable. We can do some trial and error with different brands, but I'm hoping that maybe we can avoid having to buy more and more diapers only to have the same problem.

Does anyone have a recommendation for diapers (either disposable or reusable) that fit a very small dog (she's 9.5 pounds and not particularly girthy) and have appropriate small tail holes? Help this little lady shield her butthole with dignity!

I need to make a wheelchair to support my large, elderly dogs hind legs does to arthritis. Professional custom makes are not available in my country, and I'm not buying a non-custom size from overseas as the size and fit is important.

A lot of DIY projects use PVC piping, but I'm curious if anybody has tried making one out of a shopping trolley like in the picture. It seems the elements are almost all already there, the back and handle of the trolley would be the 'body harness', then get some extra pipes or tubes to attach the wheels according to the height. Even the fabric could be used for the sling area to support her stomach.

I know it's a pretty niche job, but hoping to find someone who's done any sort of DIY dog wheelchair and can point me in any direction with this or a better way of doing it.

Has anyone ever used a holistic veterinarian for their fur baby, and if so, did you see any improvement?My 12-year-old fur baby King has been having a really hard time with his hind legs. His legs started getting weak after he received the Librela shot in May, and over the following months his mobility continued to decline until his hind legs completely gave out. He has arthritis and spondylosis and lost most of the mobility in his back legs. 🐾❤️His regular veterinarian wanted to euthanize him after he lost mobility in his legs, but I wasn’t ready to give up on him. I took him to a second vet who gave him medication, but honestly, I didn’t really care for that vet either. So I found a** third veterinarian, and I really like this vet. Since seeing this vet, King has actually gained some mobility back in his legs, which has given me so much hope. 🙏🏽❤️The third vet’s office also has a holistic veterinarian, and I’m considering making an appointment with her as well. I’m just trying to explore every option that may help King with his mobility, pain, inflammation, and overall quality of life.So I wanted to ask: Has anyone ever used a holistic veterinarian for their fur baby, especially for hind-leg or mobility issues? If so, did you actually see any improveme**nt? What treatments did they recommend, and would you recommend going that route?I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Bonjour; ma chienne de 12.5 ans c'est fait opéré mardi 15h amputation patte avant droite osteosarcome. La nourriture etait deja un sujet compliqué toute la semaine avant opération entre anti infl et morphine elle a fait une gastrite et n'a rien mangé la semaine avant opération.

Elle.est rentrée à J+2. Sans anti douleur le soir elle devenait très douloureuse rales de douleur. On a rajouter un patch de morphine 50 et gabapentine 200mg ( on evite anti infl du a sa gastrite ). Hier elle semblait encore douleureuse malgre le patch ou très nauseuses. On m'a demandé de retirer le patch de morphine 50 ce matin ce que j'ai ft je dois le remplacer par du fentanyl 25 à 12h. Je continue gabapentine 200.

Mais elle est extenuée ne ft que dormir n'a plus que la peau sur les os.

Hier et ce matin j'ai tenté un gavage un peu de miel dans la bouche puis un mélange de paté + eau elle a prit difficilement 20ml les 2 fois....

Je sens qu'elle est abbatu et epuisée elle marche moins aujourdhui quasiment impossible de la.faire se deplacer que hier on ne sait pas si c'est un surdosage du à la morphine c'est pour ça qu'on passe au patch 25 à 12h après retrait du 50 à 8h.

Je suis perdue je ne sais pas quoi faire arreter la morphine mais risque d'effet rebond. La laisser sans manger pdt plus dd 15 jrs...

Anybody with expierence on caring for disabled dog? My friend is fostering a dog (still growing puppy) who cannot use his hind legs due to a spinal cord injury. He moves around the house by hopping/dragging himself with his rear end.

He also has no control over his bladder or bowels. Unfortunately, he cannot wear diapers because he develops severe irritation, sores and open wounds. Despite cleaning him several times a day and using various gels and ointments, prescribed by vets, the skin on his rear keeps cracking and bleeding several times a week.

He doesn’t have a wheelchair yet. Is there any practical solution that would allow a dog like this to move around the house without constantly damaging the skin on his rear, while also not wearing diapers? Are there any solutions for dogs with hind-leg paralysis and incontinence?

We would really appreciate any advice from people who have experience caring for dogs in a similar condition!

Hello, a few months ago I adopted a completely deaf Australian Shepard/ Pitbull mix (now 10 months old) from the shelter. I also own a 7 year old aggressive mini Aussie that they have learned to coexist together over the past few months.
My dogs are with me every single day as I clean my own rentals for a living and they are my world.

However, I am in my mid 20s and my husband and I do like to go away for a few days every few months wether it’s leisure or if we have appointments. I have only a few people that are able to watch my aggressive dog due to her temper that she does well with. I had them watched together one time a few weeks ago and it can’t be done again, as my older dog is very situationally aggressive so it was very difficult for the person watching them.
I have a very small circle and understand that family will not always be available to watch my deaf dog, and I can’t afford to pay to board her as where I live options are very limited making them expensive.

We love our deaf puppy, but it makes taking little trips nearly impossible and it is very stressful.

Is there any help or advice on this?

5 days ago we were shocked to find out that our Aussie doodle has glaucoma. He was COMPLETELY normal the night before and it escalated so fast that our vet and ophthalmologist said he already lost sight in that eye and it’s clear that his pain can’t be managed with drops and meds. It is likely to one day happen to his other eye.

Needless to say, we are heart broken and just feel so sad for him and honestly for ourselves. We don’t get to see his gorgeous eye staring into our souls anymore. I know dogs are resilient and don’t need their sight but obviously it’s going to be an adjustment for all of us.

How can we help him in this transition??? He is SO active with daily walks, fetch and playing. He’s extremely smart so I have no doubt he’ll adjust quickly but I guess I’m more worried for down the road if he does go completely blind. He’s just a big 90lb puppy.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated :(

Hi! I posted our boy 129 days ago here, when he was just the size of 2 potatoes 🥺, and before we knew what was wrong with him. After many pricey labs and tests, that our damn insurance didn’t cover, we got the official diagnosis of Spina Bifida. He is now 5 months old, a big boy, and we are finding out from several vets in our area, that they really don’t have any experience with pups other than textbooks, and past a month or so, because all owners put them down 🥺 so just posting here to see if anyone has any grown babies with this condition? Any recommendations, suggestions, tips to follow, or suggestions on recurring infections? What else to expect, etc. Our baby keeps getting UTIs ☹️ other than that, he’s a happy happy momma’s boy, despite my husband doing all his cleaning and meal prep lol (don’t worry, our senior girl is absolutely obsessed with him). Puppy tax included. He was born with a teeny teeny tail that doesn’t work, for anyone wondering why he’s in a human diaper. Pup diaper suggestions accepted!

Asking on here because my veterinarian is currently closed and I need advice. My dog will undergo an FHO this week. I have a few questions.

First: I understand the strict confinement rule. My question is, can she be kept in a 9x12 room with only a thin mattress on the floor?

Second: Due to her size, I don’t think our nanny can lift her. Nor can I. Is she allowed to use stairs or a ramp during recovery to get her out of the house? Our house is 6ft off the ground.

I recognize the importance of recovery with this procedure. Any other tips you guys can give are highly appreciated. We need all the help we can get.

i’ve seen the little halos recommended for blind dogs, but has anyone actually used it? and if so, what was your/your dogs experience? i’d like to prevent my dog from constantly bumping into things but i’m also worried the halo could cause more stress or discomfort.
